Fantastic video, after 11 months I finally got a proper diagnosis this morning. I'm a 29 year old bloke and unfortunately my job as a stonemason involves lots of heavy, hands on work so I'm very concerned about the future.
My hospital spent ages trying to get to the route of the pain and swelling, they looked into a break, sprain, arthritis and several other causes, I wish we found out the cause earlier so we could have minimalised the damage, unfortunately my lunate is completely knackered!
This video has provided far more information and hope for the future than the doctors did!

My hand surgeon acted so shocked when I told him my PCP said I just needed to lose weight and my wrist pain would go away. 8 years later and after losing over 200lbs I finally got a diagnosis of stage 4 kienbock's disease. I am going to meet with him on the 14th to schedule my PRC. My MRI was today to make sure I have enough cartilage for it to be successful.

Thanks For sharing your experience and providing valuable information for everyone on this rare disease. I was diagnosed in early stages 3 days ago. I was in shock at the news and left my specialist hastily with treatment going forward of just wear a splint and come back when it gets worse. The news was devestating. Since researching what Kienbock is....which i would also like to thank you for providing. I have booked to go back to my specialist in a couple of weeks where i want to discuss the potential for VBG as this really seems like my best option right now if my lunate isn't dead yet! Good luck and again, thanks for taking the time to share it really helped me.

    • @lyndadenford6292

Damian Corr My hubby has keinbocks and even though lunate is completely dead his surgeon said he can bring it back to life by scooping out some of the dead bone, then putting a graft from the bone leading to the wrist. He will make sure graft has its own blood supply. Then he will give the lunate a better blood supply and that’s the tricky bit. He said the surgery takes all day. Long waiting list on nhs, but hopefully after Xmas he may get the surgery. He wears a splint and is in quite a bit of pain. It would help him to talk to you so you can share experiences, he’s on Facebook Kevin Denford. It’s in his right wrist, he is right handed. Hope you don’t mind me asking this but as it’s so rare I think shared experiences is vital just at least to check you are both getting the right care. Good luck.

    • @carlywheelhouse68

@@husan_sumal07 My wrist is great! After surgery I did a bit of physical therapy to build the strength back up and in that time I noticed I had less pain than I had before. Within six months, all the aching pain I had from before surgery had disappeared entirely and I haven’t had to worry about it since.
I will say, because there’s a metal plate holding my radius back together after shortening, I have occasional trouble bearing heavy weight on that arm, but it’s not a problem at all in my daily life (and this weakness is in a different place entirely from my original pain).
Overall I’m happy with how it all went and I only remember I had the surgery when people ask about the cool scar on my forearm :)

I was diagnosed with Kienböck's disease. I still have all my strength and no pain pressing any where on my wrist. I have reduced range of motion and I feel pressure around the wrist. They told me I was facing PRC. My x-rays and MRI show normal bones with a small spur on my lunate. The Surgeon suspects a fracture although I had not experienced any trama. He has ordered a CT scan before they do anything. I am terrified because I am a father of 2 and dream of playing basketball with my children.

    • @jessicabuckholz6368
      @jessicabuckholz6368 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Sorry to just be getting back to you! For me the PRC healed my pain and range of motion issues SO much. Obviously the outcome is different for everyone, and my PRC was on my non dominant hand, but I would definitely say I am now on a level where I could play recreational basketball, sometimes I feel like my PRC hand is better than my other.

I thought I just had a broken wrist kept working Etc. But it kept getting worse. I took the mri and surgery im still on disability and it’s painful and terrible. Prepare before you do the surgery financially. Depending on how you recover and adapt it’s going to be really hard if you don’t have help. If you have time they will open up your hand and take a prince of the knee bone out and replace it. It’s extremely painful im a month in after oct7 2022 it’s currently nov 8 2022 and it’s still difficult to walk some what but I’m getting better. If it’s to late that your hand has to much damage it is to late and the must fuse your hand together with screws.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I recently learned that I have kienbock disease, and that there are more options to help me fix my wrist.. The surgeon I saw only spoke of fusing my bones and my range of motion would be around 20 to 30% .
I'm terrified, my job is all hands on i take take blood and I'm also an artist who loves yoga and other physical activities. This has come to a hault, I have had been limited to what I can do. Which is anything that doesn't involve my hands. I don't have a surgery date yet, but was told to stand by.
My journey with kienbock started a long time ago and no one caught on as to what was happening until the lunate bone was not only dead but had started to deteriorate. I only found out because I broke my wrist bracing myself from a seated position.
I'm wondering if replacing my bone with something else would help because like I said before I was only offered a fusion of my bones. I don't know if we even have any Dr's that can perform such a surgery where I live?
What was your lunate bone replaced with? Did they use a piece of your knee or something else? Thanks again for the education and the hope🙂.

Hi! i did a surgery 2 months ago, and i removed my plaster 2 weeks ago. The first surgeon said the exact same thing of yours because my lunate was already completely broken, i contacted another surgeon that offered me another way ( that is quite rare, it has been made only 5 more times in the history, so it was pretty scary ahah). they basically replaced the lunate with a 3d printed copy of my old one in pyrocarbon. if i was you, i would see at least another surgeon, more views are always better than one :). good luck and have a good day :)

Happy for you, I have AVN in scaphoid, was shocked when he said remove scaphoid, dont remember if 4 corner fusion or PRC was the procedure, my pain isnt that bad except when I am dumb enough to play tennis which I love, do recover pretty quick though. It really sucks as I am a tennis addict, never had any trauma, had 2 cortisone shots from a scapholunate ligament tear, had multiple x rays to make sure I had no fracture and last one said AVN in scaphoid, no fracture, which is hard to find on web as AVN is almost always from fracture causing bad blood supply to the bone. Like I am sure you felt this seems never ending! Being in dominant hand is even worse. Most of the time I have texted 4 corner fusion and read about PRC being done and rehab isnt very good, most are not satisfied, feel worse, was your lunate removed? If so maybe a easier PRC surgery than removing scaphoid, thanks for sharing, sorry had to vent my frustrations!
