My complaint was actually the opposite. It seemed to me like it was too well connected. I was hoping the filmmakers wouldn't explain anything and would instead let the eerie images, sketchy archetypes and wandering mythos of the first book make it to the screen. Unfortunately, I think drawing from the later books to explain everything that was so intriguing about the Gunslinger really didn't work for me. Kind of like a lot in the later books themselves.
This is my favorite book series of all time and since I started reading it I also thought it would make a bad movie since its pretty bizarre and needs explaining to understand it. Though it would make a great TV series. I also envisioned Roland as someone like Viggo Mortison but am super bummed that this movie is so bad because when I heard Idris Alba was going to play him I got super excited and now this is probably done and even if it gets turned into a series they won't bring him back.
"Hey Robbie! We'd like you to come in and sit in Mark for one more week. If you could just roll out of bed, grab the first shirt you find on the floor (don't even button it now) and make no attempt to groom yourself, that would be great!"
It's not the worst thing that I've seen recently, but I didn't really like 'The Dark Tower': it's premise didn't make sense; it played out in a predictable, stereotypical fashion; and, considering it's aimed at young teens, I thought that it was a morally dubious advert for gun ownership. The SFX were OK and it rattled on a pace, but there wasn't much else there for me. 2/5
Gosh, I love Robbie Collin. I want more Robbie Colin's film criticism in my life - without reducing the amount of Mark Kermode's film criticism.
This really should have been an episodic show.
Oh I don't know, six minutes for a movie review seems long enough to me.

"Tom Taylor, a young actor who has dreams..."
the washing machine analogy was textbook

I’m currently on book 7, fantastic story but the film is more like a long trailer for the story and does it no justice whatsoever.
I've never agreed with Edith Bowman so much in all my life.
Either the AC's off or Robbie's so engrossed in his reviews that he's forgetting to button up all his shirt nowadays.
All this cut-together business, sounds like a "Best Defence" tale to me

Max Frost perhaps he's trolling Mark and his usual suits.

Why does Robbie exist? Is there no one else in the U.K. who can see movies and speak?
