Jason loved/loves Sam. He was willing to marry Elizabeth for Jake's sake but he didn't love Elizabeth. He was sacrificing his happiness with Sam for the love of his son.

The thing that destroyed Jason & Sam’s relationship was the daily lies and the complete betrayal of trust which Jason did at Elizabeth’s request because she wanted to ruin Jason & Sam since not even having his child can make Jason love & want Elizabeth over Sam due to the fact that Sam’s the one that Jason actually wanted to have kids with unlike Liz who he accidentally knocked up due to a faulty condom, the fact that Sam doesn’t need to be pregnant to have the love of Jason, and the last fact is that he may have offered to marry her out of obligation but he never did whereas Jason proposed to Sam several times & did marry her is cold hard proof that Sam is the one he truly loves and not Elizabeth. Also, it cannot be ignored that this entire moment takes place after he told Elizabeth that he wouldn’t be with her because of the danger of his life to her kids but a marriage & family is exactly what he wanted with Sam which was why Elizabeth switched the DNA test, btw.

We think it's ironic how Jason and Elizabeth were so hard and judgemental on Sam during the whole incident with Jake's kidnapping, that she watched and didn't say anything because she was heart broken and suffered an emotional breakdown caused by their web of lies. Now, Elizabeth without any reason, justification or excuse except for her jealousy and envy her actions almost caused this baby's life. If she would have told the truth from the beginning maybe things would have not escalated as they did and Jason would have had more time with his son. But no, once again, Elizabeth true to form had to use her manipulations and even Jake's death to make sure that Jason signed the divorce papers. She was freaking unbelievable. We only hope that after this whole mess in the future Jason doesn't cut her any more slack, stop defending her and making excuses for her behavior. Furthermore, we hope Jason learned form this whole ordeal that it's never a good idea to confide in Elizabeth. She has shown that she would always have a hidden agenda when it comes to Jason and that she would always crossed any boundaries without thinking of the consequences because that's the type of person that she is. We truly hope that he remembers this incident so Jason would never trust Elizabeth again. Unfortunately, he would always have to deal with her because of Jake but that doesn't mean he has to trust her. Hopefully, the writers would not make him look like a dumbass by allowing him to keep making the same mistake with her over and over again. Blessed be!

This reminds me why I love Jason and Sam together. Sam is a completely different character now. I don't really care for her now thanks to the writers. And now she's leaving. I don't know how I feel about that. If it was this Sam I would be very upset.
