The buttresses outside the bell tower are really impressive. They must have really heavy bells inside. The first view you showed of the church when I saw those railings I thought the church looked quite squat and I thought there was a level missing. When you walked around it your video confirmed it. I wonder what happened there. The amount of wind blowing as you walked around the building made me think that the windy elements might be why there are none of the older stained glass windows. But the damage to the upper story might tell another fascinating tale. A very unique church. Beautiful. Thank you for sharing this with us
I think the church roof was removed if memory serves me right 🤔 I think it needed repairing and didn't have the funds so it was removed and a (cheaper) flat roof put in. Dunno. That's just from memory 🤔 They might be trying to raise the funds to do the roof properly.
@@marcsghostycorner4336 I found it very interesting that during the war they actually removed the bell tower because of the war planes flying around there. They must have been scared that the planes would collide with the tower. My goodness me. looking at it you would never think so hey. It looks as solid as the day it was first built. I apologise for adding more uninteresting information. It just adds another interesting layer of history to me. In a way it makes the previous occupants walk again. waffle waffle waffle. 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂🙃
20:24 Why would it be blocked up? The church where I lived blocked up the other door on the other side to make everyone come in through the wider door way. The so called main entrance. To make it easier to greet people and to make it easier to keep watch on who enters the church when no one is there.
@@marcsghostycorner4336 The baptist church I went to decades ago had two entrance doors at the front but then inside it was like a corridor with an opening in the middle to the church pews. The minister would stand in the middle of the corridor where the opening was and greet people as they came to the opening. If you get me.
I was thinking could you not walk through the cemetery to get to the church? Obviously not. The church near my grandpa's had a cemetery in the church grounds and church fields. Always a Methodist church every town. Is there a Baptist church in every town too? If churches were built before Henry V111 were not the stained glass windows replaced because smashed or have they been replaced to prevent smashed and the stained glass is in the cellar. Some Gargoyles were removed from some churches because they were scaring people.

Also the door could be broken down easier being a single door.
Certainly true that the door(s) could have been blocked up to keep one access point only. That's a very valid and interesting observation 👍
Yep 👍

The cemetery was quite a distance from the church which was interesting. Most cemeteries are council owned so not anything to do with the church 🤔
