Well, Tank Movie #2 is actually great in its own right. It would’ve been interesting to see your take on the A-Team movie, Filmento, because I sincerely can’t get what’s wrong with it, why does it fail so much with both the critics and the audience, being almost forgotten by this time. While IMO, that’s an action genre classics, an excellent ensemble piece, and an extremely entertaining movie. Those feelings to the movie are only growing on me with time, while I’m seldomly checking out what stands for “blockbuster” and “action movie” today.
What I really like is how at first, the movie makes you hate every character except Norman, and by the end you get why they became the way they are, completely relate to them, actively root for them and, in my case at least, start seeing them like heroes.
In the context of war, they were heroes. So as long as you understand what context is, and how it applies to any given situation, there is nothing wrong with seeing them as heroes. It was a movie for fuck sake.

True, it's important as well to not lose perspective; the one who doesn't want to have to kill is *right*, in most situations he's right, and he shouldn't have to, but in the circumstances he's in its necessary. If the people in charge making the decisions were like him, the war wouldn't have happened. If more voting Germans and more people in power in both Germany and America were like him, none of this would have had to happen.
What we could take away from the women/meal scene is just how broken these men really became, and how they wouldn't just be able to go back to a 'normal' life Then you put on top of that the ending, and it's just haunting: *"Hey, you're a hero buddy. You know that?"* And Norman is left looking back on the Fury, now a tomb of his crew as soldiers continue to march and drive past it. The war will go on without them, and their lives ended on the side of some dirt road and the hatch being closed to mark their unceremonious, unsung heroism and grave. Yet it's Norman, the survivor, that gets called the "hero". These are just uncomfortable truths of war...
The message that “war is bad” has been used since Vietnam it’s always disappointing to hear another sad war movie with the same god damn message that I’ve heard a thousand times. I’m not saying the message is bad or the movie is bad but I’m just sick of being “taught” the same message for over 20 years

Starts out with a young Ukrainian man avoiding getting ‘volunteered’ like his friends as he tries to work to provide for his family and fiancé. Then one day, a ‘recruiting van’ pulls up beside him before he’s beaten into ‘volunteering’ despite his protests. After a few weeks of rushed training, he’s sent to the southern offensive only to be surprised that his squad is largely comprised of middle-aged men as those like his friends have long since been killed and the war grows desperate for bodies. We spend an hour between getting to know them and them getting picked off during drone and artillery strikes. The day before what’s left of his squad is to move out, his fiancé sends him a video of her dancing with random dudes in Odesa. The attack just leads to getting lost in a Russian minefield and our protagonist losing his leg; never once actually seeing the enemy. The film ends to the sound of Russian artillery zeroing in and “Mr Blue Sky” playing as the camera pans out on our protagonist, barely conscious on the ground, giving a smile and thumbs up to the camera as he says, *”War…it’s faaantastic.”*
One thing about the ending I think about a lot was the fact that Norman was spared due to an act of mercy by a German soldier. The soldier finds him but decides to not say anything to his platoon. Earlier they found a German in a nearly identical situation as Norman and that was the German they forced him to kill.
Yeah that moment and irony still haunts me to this day. Whenever I think about this movie, it's the first thing that comes to mind. A truly iconic moment IMO.@@HD_Hates
Note: the German they found "in a nearly identical situation" was ... not exactly in an identical situation. He was wearing a stolen US Army jacket. It's against the Geneva Convention to dress up as the other side's soldiers. Moreover, SS soldiers by that point in the war had been infiltrating behind US lines, dressing up as US soldiers, and then committing war crimes. That's some crucial context which is not spelled out explicitly in the movie, but which helps explain their pitiless execution of the German soldier wearing the US Army jacket.
If you look around youtube, there are plenty of videos of this movie. Mostly historical channels looking for inaccuracies or reactions to the movie itself.
The best thing about this movie is that it made us connect with everyone in their own way. The scene when he says " Shoot em. But they are dead. How do you know they are dead, you a doctor?
I do love the Chieftain's take on the movie in that it's a great movie that captures the vibes of being a tanker with it's history being authentic enough to overlook its accuracy.
I could suspend my disbelief for all the inaccuracies this film had because I just have a soft spot for history and armored warfare. I won't disregard those inaccuracies, but I love the film nonetheless!
I suspended my disbelief during the movie, but in the years following it I realised just how much it pushed the myth of the Sherman being a death trap, which is a bit sad.
Exactly. The inaccuracies are basically just "the tiger shot the wrong tank" kind of inaccuracy. Everything else and all of the details, felt very real.
This movie gets so much hate for not being historically accurate but I love it despite the people complaining. People act like they don’t know how to sit back and enjoy a movie anymore.
It’s not even that historically inaccurate. These people make complaints like the Tiger’s 88 being bounced by the Sherman, but we also see Old Phyllis land a round smack onto the front plate. I don’t care how good your Tiger crew is, a 76 hitting like that would split your tank in half.
@@natali_wolffe9012there is also other stuff like the tiger deciding to change, when in reality it was already at a very close range, almost to close for a tank battle. Also in reality the tiger would have targeted the leading Sherman, since it had the biggest gun (thus played the biggest threat to the tiger) and that way the column would have been stuck, the follow up from the tiger would have been hitting the rear Sherman, thus pinning the 2 in the middle between the 2 disabled Sherman's. Also due to the very close nature of the fire exchange both the Sherman firefly and the tiger would have penetrated eachother. And tanks wouldn't move in colloms like these alone, they would have been flanked by infantry, the only time they would have been alone was during an attack on an enemy position or enemy tank. Also the whole scene with the women in the apartment and pit's character forcing the the 2 youths to lose their virginities, that's an abuse of power and did see some get court martial over it. Angelina was part of a organisation that was working for women affected by soldiers doing what pit's character did in the film, and how the show basically wrote it off as it's good, since they are the heroes really comes across in bad taste.
@@apersondoingthings5689 yea on a quick Google "The American tanks in the movie - ten were used - were all M4A3E8s and all came from the Bovington Tank Museum in southern England" the point still stands however, at that range the 2 bigger guns would have been able to knock eachother out like they did during the war, it's why the British and later Americans slapped the bigger gun on the Sherman before eventually replacing it with a bigger tank and bigger gun (M26 Pershing - 90 mm Gun M3)
This movie was so stressful to watch! But also really good. Brad Pitt and the other actors have been consistently good after this movie also. This movie also gave me hope for Shia. His movies are crazy when he’s the lead and can demand what he wants, but in an ensemble cast where he’s not the most famous person? He’s a pretty good actor and does well as supporting cast
It's a great movie. I was a tanker, and we watched this movie all the time. When we took buses out to NTC in California (we were in Texas) we watched this movie and all of Band of Brothers.
The little asshole who treats waiters like shit and pick up fights with fans on the streets because of his inflated ego product of his amazing ability consisting of screaming one word for 90% of the movies he is in? @@Amm17arDunkirk and Fury are not the best ww2 movies, Dunkirk suffered from Nolan's stubbornness of not using CGI in scenes where it should, such as the aerial view which should be a few thousand men when it should be 300,000. Waterloo was able to do it better and that movie came out in the 1970s. They used the French and English rivalry in the opening with the sharp look of the French towards the British soldier when they've been allies since the Crimean war and fought together in ww1. Atonement was able to capture the hopelessness of Dunkirk in less than 10 minutes better than the Dunkirk movie itself and the only CGI used in that scene is when they arrived. Fury on the other hand is edgy and too cliché showing the Nazis as incompetent as possible even when they hit trucks and jeeps that are smaller and faster targets than Sherman's but didn't land a successful direct hit on them when they have the element of surprise. Band of brothers literally shows what a German ambush would look like, even the Russian film white tiger was able to show what made gave the Tiger 1's fearsome reputation. A well hidden tank with a powerful gun and thick armor. While Fury had made the tiger leave it's good position for reasons and its fire rate suddenly drops. And lastly, Fury herself is a Sherman Easy Eight that has a gun that can kill a tiger making her the most valuable target during an ambush. Toratoratora, a bridge too far, the great raid, my way, letters of Iwo Jima, sea without exit, das boot, eternal zero, dawn, battle of Britain and Valkyrie are all better ww2 films than these two who played too many ww2 clichés.

Youre mistaking your personal bias and nitpicks of the movies for the collectives opinion on them. Fact is most people dont agree with you, and thats okay. I think an important note to make on my comment is I clearly said, "One of the best".....not THE best. It is juat my opinion, but its an opinion shared by a lot of WW2 buffs. No movie is perfect, but they can be perfectly imperfect.
Early in the movie, after arriving at a kind of field base, Pitt's character finds a secluded corner where he can vomit and cry without being seen by others (I think I'm remembering that right). That was how i knew "Fury" was going to be a special movie. When war movies show the hero(es) as human and vulnerable, it makes the film so much more interesting and the characters so much more relatable. Yeah, Fury is a great war film.
Fun fact: the movie in Latam is known as "Iron Hearts", i usually hate when translators change the names like that, but it fits very well with it being about a "tank war" and the soldiers inside it
And speaking of Latam, the "Cool as a cucumber Mexican" 🤣(damn, I really need a T-shirt with that phrase) doesn't feel like a modern day forced politically correct inclusion, but a respectful appreciation of the migrants contribution in every recent major war that USA has been part of.

As a former Australian tankie(slight difference in the lexicon), I feel a truely legit tank film would be 95% dropping track, greasing Sh1t, rewireing comms, cleaning, more cleaning then cleaning the grounds and mowing lawns. Thank god for Hollywood.😜
The best part is that this movie wasn't even realistic, but since it had an excelent cast, was so well written and directed it became memorable to the audience.
“Fury" is a gem of the war movie genre. The casting is top-notch-Shia’s dedication alone is impressive. I appreciated the deep dive into tank warfare, especially the intricacies and limitations of the M4 Sherman. The movie doesn't try to be all things to all people; it sticks to its focus and delivers. The crew members each bring emotional depth, making the story relatable and poignant. Norman is the perfect lens for the audience to understand the brutality and complexities of war.
I read somewhere that Fury could be a retelling of Moby Dick. Norman is Ishmael, Brad Pitt is Ahab who hates the SS and SS officer riding on a white horse in the beginning, the others in the tank crew could have been based on other characters from the book but i am not quite sure.

I don´t know David Ayer personally but according to imdb he was kicked out by his parents when he was a teenager, lived in L.A. and was in the U.S Navy as a submariner. I don´t know how deep he thinks but at least he went deep in the ocean. All jokes aside he also made movies like End of Watch, Training Day (writer), U-571, Dark Blue and Harsh Times so I wouldn´t completely rule out his deep thinking ability even if those movies aren´t revered masterpieces. Also, I don´t think that Moby Dick is that deep to be honest.

@@redaug4212 I really enjoyed U-571 its a submarine movie set in WW2, he was in the Navy so I guess he knows at least one or two things about that. Fury is also a WW2 movie, so for me he made (alongside other people, film making is team effort after all) two enjoyable WW2 movies. I also really liked End of Watch which he wrote and directed, that required at least some tiny amount of talent and skill.
The POW scene always got me, different angles and debates I've seen on whether it was a war crime or not, going down to what stiches were on the coat. I feel like it was designed this way, our protagonists are rough, scruffy, They don't know and neither do we.
You should check out Locke. The whole movie is just a man in a car making and getting phonecalls and you see his whole life change in one car journey. Played by Tom Hardy who always gives an excellent performance.
No joke, this movie single-handedly inspired me to make my own TTRPG, which i have to hand into my publisher next week! I love the movie and i wanted to recreate this feel in a pen and paper rpg.
I'm surprised there are so few tank movies. It has all the ingredients of a good story. A team of 4-5 people stuck with each other inside a moving machine in dangerous circumstances, having to work out their internal dynamics to prevail in combat. The historical significance of the tanks themselves, and what they represent about the country's army and culture. How the tank fits into the wider story and war effort.
Watched this thing every night for a month, fell asleep watching it. Like Interstellar and Gravity before it, this film is just so like a comfortable doona. Even being a war film.
This is by FAR my most favorite war movie. So happy to see it featured here. It’s such a seemingly simple film, yet is actually beautifully constructed and incredibly deep. The entire German apt scene is a work of art.
One of my favorite details about this film is how immersive it is. The majority of shots feel like they’re an arm’s reach away. I get myself at the table with the women and women, on top of the tank between engagements, and trapped inside during them. There was a constant sense of tension that kept me engaged for the entire run time. While there are some technical goofs/dramatizations that are used to move the story, I didn’t feel as though they detracted from the impact of the film. It’s only been two days since I first watched it, and I can’t wait to do it again
This movie is a combination of two absolute *_Badasses_* of WW2 mushed together and given so much love and respect that it somehow survived the cursed touch of hollywood and came out still good!!

Its a pretty good movie but there are just too many historical (and tactical) inaccuracies that continually pulled me out of the narrative . That said, I can see why many people love it .
Yeah, but most of the people ranting about its accuracy are ranting about the wrong things, like the Nazi fanboys ranting that the Tiger should have been more invincible.
@@michaelwong9411 No, they're ranting that the Tiger should have had support and oprics and range on its sidd and backed/kept distsnce so the shermans couldnt close and that the movie takes place late in the war when the Germans really had very little fight left and the Shermans all had HVAP ammo that could pierce a tiger.
One of my favorite war movies , the atmosphere and storytelling is really on point. The cast was really spot on and i felt that through the screen in the acting and chemistry. One of my absolute favorites in the genre!
Despite all of its flaws in terms of historical accuracy, Fury really delivers a special experience, one I can look past all the mistakes for and really enjoy. As I see it, it wasn't meant to be perfectly accurate, it was using the setting to tell a story, and it wasn't extremely egregious in bending that setting, which is still good to see.
it is a really good movie that is at the same time hard to watch and rewatchable. and it's refreshing to see a video where you just talk about a movie you like instead of talking about monetary "failure" or "success" as the only relevant metric
even as a history buff, I know that things will be wrong, but it's generally correct (especially with how ineffective the US 76 was compared to the British firefly)

I enjoyed how this film showed us the toll of war in the crew without showing us the actual War. We dislike and even hate all but perhaps the driver in the start but as we experience hell with then we start to understand and relate to them and give them our empathy
One of my favourite movies and I am glad you decided to make a video about it. Seen it like 4 times and I believe this weekend I will rewatch it again. This is one of those movies where it is so well made, you can't watch another right after without feeling off. Like one person said, would sit through 3 hours of this with no issues. 10 out of 10 movie and same goes for your review of it. Great job
I saw this in theaters when i was in rehab, they took us for a movie on the weekends after AA meetings. During some scenes the whole theater was cheering and clapping. They did a great job of maiinng the battles have good tension even tho we knew they werent going to die.
There’s a great “tank” movie from 1988 called The Beast (now called The Beast of War), which follows a Soviet tank and its warring crew that get separated from their patrol and lost in an Afghan valley with a group of vengeance-seeking rebels on their tracks.
This movie is "Saving Private Ryan" in a tank. Variations here and there, but by-and-large, the same story. I've also heard that this movie is supposed to take place over the course of a single day, which, if true, makes it harder for me to suspend my disbelief.
I love the call back at the end where at first Norman doesn't kill a Soilder because he's just a kid even though it could (and does) get his own men killed and at the end he's saved because a kid on the other side doesn't rat him out under the tank even though he's just killed a shit load of his men
I just recently saw this movie. I'm having a new, weird obsession right now (not gonna get into it), and long story short, I bought the movie to satisfy the obsession. I was mad like hell! Every scene in that movie I had already seen on TH-cam. I'm glad you're doing a video on it, though! It's always good to watch you.
Its still one of my favorite movies. Cant count movies with better Sound design and Atmosphere. Also it has a M4A3 76 which is a objectively the best tank of the WW2, you can't change my mind
Another thing I never see anyone talk about, Brad Pitts character in this movie was German American. He spoke fluent German, wore a haircut that was associated with Germany in the 1930s and 40s, and carried a war trophy STG-44. It’s an interesting aspect, and most WW2 movies tend to gloss over the fact that a large portion of the US white population is decended from Germans, especially if you’re from a state like me where you grew up speaking German

A recent movie I saw that this made me think of was Devotion. Korean War era fighter pilots, 50s era racism, and an incredibly narrow set of POV characters to see the world through. All based on actual people. Know Jonathan Majors is a bit dicey right now, but regardless of who he is as a person he can still act and does a good job here.
@Borderline5440 I thought it did it's job well. Nice build up of the various social and mechanical tensions. Bonding of the two leads. Hysterical but historically accurate shenanigans. All with a bad ass climax scene and gut wrenching finale.
Makes me wonder how young you lot are and what your film knowledge is like, because there are a hell of a lot of great war films made over the years. This wouldn't get any where near the ten greatest war movies ever made, its a fun watch and thats it.
I find it funny that David Ayer, despite how bad he is as a filmmaker has made Fury (one of my favorite war movies) and End of Watch (one of my favorite cop movies with a unique film style). This goes to prove that no director is outrightly bad.
I really like Fury, specially with its more realistic atmosphere, compared to others WW2 movies. don't get me wrong, some of my all time favorites ww2 movies, are from the 70's and 90's but it got more of "the good war myth" atmosphere to it...
This is one of my favorite movies of all time (while I know it has its flaws) everything about this movie is excellent from some great performances from all 5 of the tank crew to a beautiful and haunting score and some truly stunning cinematography. It manages to bring all of these many different angles into a very concise and frank movie about the harsh realities of war and humanity
A major criticism people had with Fury was how the actors looked old. While yes, historically speaking, American soldiers were typically young or just barely out of their teens like Norman, the casting of the rest crew felt deliberate to portray that the four veterans aged fast because of war.

The only nitpicking I have is the Tiger scene. The tiger tank commander would have shot at the fury first in real life , because he has the high velocity Sherman tank gun with better penetration. Also, the tiger would have never left his covered position. But yeah… Hollywood…
I had very high expectations for this film but when I watched it I was immensely disappointed by the weakness of the plot, script and development and most of all by the total unreality of the battle scenes.
This movie also stands as one of the few actually anti-war films out there, because it doesn't really present the heroes as "heroes" and really has no chill when it comes to showing how terrible and meaningless the whole experience is.
I didn't like that the hero survived. I feel like the ending would have been a lot more poignant if backup arrived the next day with all of the main crew dead far too late to help. Him lving based on a last second reinforcement seems to stand contrary to the brutality of the mortar shelling scene
No. Never. The one bit where the guy calls the kid a hero while all his friends sit dead in a burning hulk is honestly the greatest damnation of the uselessness of war.
Fury is a good movie but it's a shame we don't see more modern tanks (for ww2) like the Pershing or T30 and even king tigers. Fury also follows common tank inaccuracies for example the tiger fight although the tigers were fearsome they weren't invincible as the 76mm cannon used on the Easy Eight Sherman shown in the movie was more than capable of destroying the tiger (within the upper front plate) using the correct ammunition that is.
Well, not seeing those tanks makes sense. They weren't exactly common. Heck, the US pretty much didn't run into Tigers either. And yeah, it has a lot of issues with inaccuracies, and that's made plain by the opening text. It right away establishes that the movie should be taken about as seriously as Girls Und Panzer (which is awesome. Silly, but awesome).
Things I makes it hard for me to take this movie seriously: 1-) Everything feels too clean, just the village rain scene in saving private ryan made everything look so real and grounded, messy and dirty, but fury feels clean, and I can't imagine something less clean than the inside of a tank in the middle of a war. 2-) The group dynamic of the tank crew was unecesarily awkward and at some points disgusting (like the scene with the french girls) 3-) Again with group dynamics, Brad Pitts Character is straight up a war criminal in this movie, like the scene when he is making our main protagonist shoot a surrendered soldier, the scene dragged for way too long, it was a bit unrealistic (I mean there wasn't a single officer in that bunch of people to stop that??), and I get that he was trying to teach a lesson to the kid because he needs his crew with the tank survival mentality and to set aside their mercy to some degree But come on... he could've teach him that in infinite ways and they chose the one with the most shock value (because ofcourse they did) and the one that seemed the most written by an teenager edgelord. 4-) This is not a valid point just wanted to throw this out there. I HATE Shia LafkingBuff, I think he is a pretensious prick who has at least 200 less IQ than the number in his head, he is generaly an ashole to the comon folk, yelling at waiters, picking up fights in the streets with people who only asked for this autograph (be thankfull someone wants your autograph for basically yelling OPTIMUUUUUUUUUSSS for most of your carreer you talentless pansy), so yes... watching that excuse for an actor screaming "ONWARD" for the whole movie and getting paid for it took at least 10 years of my life in liver damage. 5-) fk you Shia (sorry needed to be said again) 6-) The Last battle was... "Call of Dutyesk"?? I mean they survived that long just because those Germans behaved like Call of Duty most basic of NPCs, they just ran straight to their bullets and kept shooting to an armored vehicle with thier rifles... instead of doing the obvious of taking cover, send the anti-tank squad around it (behind cover!!) and start putting holes in it, whitch they eventually did but after loosing countless troops that never were taught to taking cover in basic training. The only thiing the germans needed to to do was A-)All non anti-tank personel take cover B-)Anti-tank personel flank around it C-)Place a rifleman taking aim TO THE ONE AND ONLY HATCH this tank has on the top! in case Brad Pitt wants to do it the call of duty way and pick out of it with a machinegun and gun down all those none covertaking soldiers that are running about... I'm sorry but this was a retarded last stand written by the looks of it, children with crayons

What I really like is how at first, the movie makes you hate every character except Norman, and by the end you get why they became the way they are, completely relate to them, actively root for them and, in my case at least, start seeing them like heroes.
In the context of war, they were heroes. So as long as you understand what context is, and how it applies to any given situation, there is nothing wrong with seeing them as heroes. It was a movie for fuck sake.

The character writing in Band of Brothers and The Pacific was way better. More diverse perspectives instead of just "THIS IS WAR!! WAR IS HELL!!!"
True, it's important as well to not lose perspective; the one who doesn't want to have to kill is *right*, in most situations he's right, and he shouldn't have to, but in the circumstances he's in its necessary. If the people in charge making the decisions were like him, the war wouldn't have happened. If more voting Germans and more people in power in both Germany and America were like him, none of this would have had to happen.
That’s how you make war propaganda. Subtle.
What we could take away from the women/meal scene is just how broken these men really became, and how they wouldn't just be able to go back to a 'normal' life
Then you put on top of that the ending, and it's just haunting: *"Hey, you're a hero buddy. You know that?"*
And Norman is left looking back on the Fury, now a tomb of his crew as soldiers continue to march and drive past it. The war will go on without them, and their lives ended on the side of some dirt road and the hatch being closed to mark their unceremonious, unsung heroism and grave. Yet it's Norman, the survivor, that gets called the "hero". These are just uncomfortable truths of war...
The message that “war is bad” has been used since Vietnam it’s always disappointing to hear another sad war movie with the same god damn message that I’ve heard a thousand times. I’m not saying the message is bad or the movie is bad but I’m just sick of being “taught” the same message for over 20 years

Starts out with a young Ukrainian man avoiding getting ‘volunteered’ like his friends as he tries to work to provide for his family and fiancé. Then one day, a ‘recruiting van’ pulls up beside him before he’s beaten into ‘volunteering’ despite his protests. After a few weeks of rushed training, he’s sent to the southern offensive only to be surprised that his squad is largely comprised of middle-aged men as those like his friends have long since been killed and the war grows desperate for bodies. We spend an hour between getting to know them and them getting picked off during drone and artillery strikes. The day before what’s left of his squad is to move out, his fiancé sends him a video of her dancing with random dudes in Odesa. The attack just leads to getting lost in a Russian minefield and our protagonist losing his leg; never once actually seeing the enemy. The film ends to the sound of Russian artillery zeroing in and “Mr Blue Sky” playing as the camera pans out on our protagonist, barely conscious on the ground, giving a smile and thumbs up to the camera as he says, *”War…it’s faaantastic.”*

One thing about the ending I think about a lot was the fact that Norman was spared due to an act of mercy by a German soldier. The soldier finds him but decides to not say anything to his platoon. Earlier they found a German in a nearly identical situation as Norman and that was the German they forced him to kill.
One of the greatest ironies in the history of cinema.

Note: the German they found "in a nearly identical situation" was ... not exactly in an identical situation. He was wearing a stolen US Army jacket. It's against the Geneva Convention to dress up as the other side's soldiers. Moreover, SS soldiers by that point in the war had been infiltrating behind US lines, dressing up as US soldiers, and then committing war crimes. That's some crucial context which is not spelled out explicitly in the movie, but which helps explain their pitiless execution of the German soldier wearing the US Army jacket.

The best thing about this movie is that it made us connect with everyone in their own way.

I do love the Chieftain's take on the movie in that it's a great movie that captures the vibes of being a tanker with it's history being authentic enough to overlook its accuracy.
I could suspend my disbelief for all the inaccuracies this film had because I just have a soft spot for history and armored warfare. I won't disregard those inaccuracies, but I love the film nonetheless!

I suspended my disbelief during the movie, but in the years following it I realised just how much it pushed the myth of the Sherman being a death trap, which is a bit sad.

Exactly. The inaccuracies are basically just "the tiger shot the wrong tank" kind of inaccuracy. Everything else and all of the details, felt very real.
This movie gets so much hate for not being historically accurate but I love it despite the people complaining. People act like they don’t know how to sit back and enjoy a movie anymore.

It’s not even that historically inaccurate. These people make complaints like the Tiger’s 88 being bounced by the Sherman, but we also see Old Phyllis land a round smack onto the front plate. I don’t care how good your Tiger crew is, a 76 hitting like that would split your tank in half.
@@natali_wolffe9012there is also other stuff like the tiger deciding to change, when in reality it was already at a very close range, almost to close for a tank battle. Also in reality the tiger would have targeted the leading Sherman, since it had the biggest gun (thus played the biggest threat to the tiger) and that way the column would have been stuck, the follow up from the tiger would have been hitting the rear Sherman, thus pinning the 2 in the middle between the 2 disabled Sherman's. Also due to the very close nature of the fire exchange both the Sherman firefly and the tiger would have penetrated eachother. And tanks wouldn't move in colloms like these alone, they would have been flanked by infantry, the only time they would have been alone was during an attack on an enemy position or enemy tank. Also the whole scene with the women in the apartment and pit's character forcing the the 2 youths to lose their virginities, that's an abuse of power and did see some get court martial over it. Angelina was part of a organisation that was working for women affected by soldiers doing what pit's character did in the film, and how the show basically wrote it off as it's good, since they are the heroes really comes across in bad taste.

@@apersondoingthings5689 yea on a quick Google "The American tanks in the movie - ten were used - were all M4A3E8s and all came from the Bovington Tank Museum in southern England" the point still stands however, at that range the 2 bigger guns would have been able to knock eachother out like they did during the war, it's why the British and later Americans slapped the bigger gun on the Sherman before eventually replacing it with a bigger tank and bigger gun (M26 Pershing - 90 mm Gun M3)
This movie was so stressful to watch! But also really good. Brad Pitt and the other actors have been consistently good after this movie also. This movie also gave me hope for Shia. His movies are crazy when he’s the lead and can demand what he wants, but in an ensemble cast where he’s not the most famous person? He’s a pretty good actor and does well as supporting cast

@@Amm17arDunkirk and Fury are not the best ww2 movies, Dunkirk suffered from Nolan's stubbornness of not using CGI in scenes where it should, such as the aerial view which should be a few thousand men when it should be 300,000. Waterloo was able to do it better and that movie came out in the 1970s. They used the French and English rivalry in the opening with the sharp look of the French towards the British soldier when they've been allies since the Crimean war and fought together in ww1. Atonement was able to capture the hopelessness of Dunkirk in less than 10 minutes better than the Dunkirk movie itself and the only CGI used in that scene is when they arrived. Fury on the other hand is edgy and too cliché showing the Nazis as incompetent as possible even when they hit trucks and jeeps that are smaller and faster targets than Sherman's but didn't land a successful direct hit on them when they have the element of surprise. Band of brothers literally shows what a German ambush would look like, even the Russian film white tiger was able to show what made gave the Tiger 1's fearsome reputation. A well hidden tank with a powerful gun and thick armor. While Fury had made the tiger leave it's good position for reasons and its fire rate suddenly drops. And lastly, Fury herself is a Sherman Easy Eight that has a gun that can kill a tiger making her the most valuable target during an ambush. Toratoratora, a bridge too far, the great raid, my way, letters of Iwo Jima, sea without exit, das boot, eternal zero, dawn, battle of Britain and Valkyrie are all better ww2 films than these two who played too many ww2 clichés.

Youre mistaking your personal bias and nitpicks of the movies for the collectives opinion on them. Fact is most people dont agree with you, and thats okay. I think an important note to make on my comment is I clearly said, "One of the best".....not THE best. It is juat my opinion, but its an opinion shared by a lot of WW2 buffs. No movie is perfect, but they can be perfectly imperfect.
Early in the movie, after arriving at a kind of field base, Pitt's character finds a secluded corner where he can vomit and cry without being seen by others (I think I'm remembering that right). That was how i knew "Fury" was going to be a special movie. When war movies show the hero(es) as human and vulnerable, it makes the film so much more interesting and the characters so much more relatable. Yeah, Fury is a great war film.

What I liked a lot about Fury is that even with the massive scale of the war the film never got lost in it and instead kept its sincerity throughout
The best part is that this movie wasn't even realistic, but since it had an excelent cast, was so well written and directed it became memorable to the audience.
“Fury" is a gem of the war movie genre. The casting is top-notch-Shia’s dedication alone is impressive. I appreciated the deep dive into tank warfare, especially the intricacies and limitations of the M4 Sherman. The movie doesn't try to be all things to all people; it sticks to its focus and delivers. The crew members each bring emotional depth, making the story relatable and poignant. Norman is the perfect lens for the audience to understand the brutality and complexities of war.
I read somewhere that Fury could be a retelling of Moby Dick. Norman is Ishmael, Brad Pitt is Ahab who hates the SS and SS officer riding on a white horse in the beginning, the others in the tank crew could have been based on other characters from the book but i am not quite sure.

I don´t know David Ayer personally but according to imdb he was kicked out by his parents when he was a teenager, lived in L.A. and was in the U.S Navy as a submariner. I don´t know how deep he thinks but at least he went deep in the ocean. All jokes aside he also made movies like End of Watch, Training Day (writer), U-571, Dark Blue and Harsh Times so I wouldn´t completely rule out his deep thinking ability even if those movies aren´t revered masterpieces. Also, I don´t think that Moby Dick is that deep to be honest.

@@redaug4212 I really enjoyed U-571 its a submarine movie set in WW2, he was in the Navy so I guess he knows at least one or two things about that. Fury is also a WW2 movie, so for me he made (alongside other people, film making is team effort after all) two enjoyable WW2 movies. I also really liked End of Watch which he wrote and directed, that required at least some tiny amount of talent and skill.
The POW scene always got me, different angles and debates I've seen on whether it was a war crime or not, going down to what stiches were on the coat. I feel like it was designed this way, our protagonists are rough, scruffy, They don't know and neither do we.
The POW was a wermarch/SS officer who commited a warcrime by wearing an american uniform, therefore he could be executed without consequence.

I'm surprised there are so few tank movies. It has all the ingredients of a good story. A team of 4-5 people stuck with each other inside a moving machine in dangerous circumstances, having to work out their internal dynamics to prevail in combat. The historical significance of the tanks themselves, and what they represent about the country's army and culture. How the tank fits into the wider story and war effort.
Most "cool" tank stories come from the germans and russians and Hollywood won't make them anything else than the enemy.

Watched this thing every night for a month, fell asleep watching it. Like Interstellar and Gravity before it, this film is just so like a comfortable doona. Even being a war film.
This is by FAR my most favorite war movie. So happy to see it featured here.
It’s such a seemingly simple film, yet is actually beautifully constructed and incredibly deep. The entire German apt scene is a work of art.
One of my favorite details about this film is how immersive it is. The majority of shots feel like they’re an arm’s reach away. I get myself at the table with the women and women, on top of the tank between engagements, and trapped inside during them. There was a constant sense of tension that kept me engaged for the entire run time. While there are some technical goofs/dramatizations that are used to move the story, I didn’t feel as though they detracted from the impact of the film. It’s only been two days since I first watched it, and I can’t wait to do it again
I would love to your thoughts on 1917, the "journey" perspective that never cuts is really cool

Yeah, as someone who read a lot of books and watch a lot of material about tanks and ww2 I just can't watch this movie with straight face.
Its a pretty good movie but there are just too many historical (and tactical) inaccuracies that continually pulled me out of the narrative . That said, I can see why many people love it .

One of my favorite war movies , the atmosphere and storytelling is really on point. The cast was really spot on and i felt that through the screen in the acting and chemistry. One of my absolute favorites in the genre!
Despite all of its flaws in terms of historical accuracy, Fury really delivers a special experience, one I can look past all the mistakes for and really enjoy. As I see it, it wasn't meant to be perfectly accurate, it was using the setting to tell a story, and it wasn't extremely egregious in bending that setting, which is still good to see.

I enjoyed how this film showed us the toll of war in the crew without showing us the actual War. We dislike and even hate all but perhaps the driver in the start but as we experience hell with then we start to understand and relate to them and give them our empathy

One of my favourite movies and I am glad you decided to make a video about it. Seen it like 4 times and I believe this weekend I will rewatch it again. This is one of those movies where it is so well made, you can't watch another right after without feeling off. i've re watched fury a couple times, never loses its watchability. an absolutely amazing movie and an awesome war movie.
I saw this in theaters when i was in rehab, they took us for a movie on the weekends after AA meetings. During some scenes the whole theater was cheering and clapping. They did a great job of maiinng the battles have good tension even tho we knew they werent going to die.
There’s a great “tank” movie from 1988 called The Beast (now called The Beast of War), which follows a Soviet tank and its warring crew that get separated from their patrol and lost in an Afghan valley with a group of vengeance-seeking rebels on their tracks.
Yeah, I remember watching that movie as a kid and the flattening of that prisoner was gruesome. My God!! 😩😩

Actually, Fury is one of my favorite movies and is definitely my favorite war movie, right up there with The Big Red One.

This movie is "Saving Private Ryan" in a tank. Variations here and there, but by-and-large, the same story. I've also heard that this movie is supposed to take place over the course of a single day, which, if true, makes it harder for me to suspend my disbelief.

I love the call back at the end where at first Norman doesn't kill a Soilder because he's just a kid even though it could (and does) get his own men killed and at the end he's saved because a kid on the other side doesn't rat him out under the tank even though he's just killed a shit load of his men
It was a hell of a movie. That Tiger scene was epic and I couldn't get enough of the final battle against the Nazis.
I just recently saw this movie. I'm having a new, weird obsession right now (not gonna get into it), and long story short, I bought the movie to satisfy the obsession. I was mad like hell! Another thing I never see anyone talk about, Brad Pitts character in this movie was German American. He spoke fluent German, wore a haircut that was associated with Germany in the 1930s and 40s, and carried a war trophy STG-44. It’s an interesting aspect, and most WW2 movies tend to gloss over the fact that a large portion of the US white population is decended from Germans, especially if you’re from a state like me where you grew up speaking German

A recent movie I saw that this made me think of was Devotion. Korean War era fighter pilots, 50s era racism, and an incredibly narrow set of POV characters to see the world through. All based on actual people. Know Jonathan Majors is a bit dicey right now, but regardless of who he is as a person he can still act and does a good job here.
I expected more out of that movie. It kind of fell flat in my opinion.

Makes me wonder how young you lot are and what your film knowledge is like, because there are a hell of a lot of great war films made over the years. This wouldn't get any where near the ten greatest war movies ever made, its a fun watch and thats it.
May not be historically accurate, but it’s not too often you get a huge ww2 tank movie like Fury. Sure it could’ve been better but I appreciate it
I find it funny that David Ayer, despite how bad he is as a filmmaker has made Fury (one of my favorite war movies) and End of Watch (one of my favorite cop movies with a unique film style). This goes to prove that no director is outrightly bad.

I really like Fury, specially with its more realistic atmosphere, compared to others WW2 movies. don't get me wrong, some of my all time favorites ww2 movies, are from the 70's and 90's but it got more of "the good war myth" atmosphere to it...

This is one of my favorite movies of all time (while I know it has its flaws) everything about this movie is excellent from some great performances from all 5 of the tank crew to a beautiful and haunting score and some truly stunning cinematography. It manages to bring all of these many different angles into a very concise and frank movie about the harsh realities of war and humanity
I will never forget my grandpa taking me to see this movie in theaters when I was 14 it was right after really bad fight with him too

A major criticism people had with Fury was how the actors looked old. While yes, historically speaking, American soldiers were typically young or just barely out of their teens like Norman, the casting of the rest crew felt deliberate to portray that the four veterans aged fast because of war.
This video almost having me believe this movie was good... Then I remember that I saw it before and it's not so good.

The only nitpicking I have is the Tiger scene.
The tiger tank commander would have shot at the fury first in real life , because he has the high velocity Sherman tank gun with better penetration.
Also, the tiger would have never left his covered position.
But yeah… Hollywood…

The open field battle in surround sound is amazing.
I had very high expectations for this film but when I watched it I was immensely disappointed by the weakness of the plot, script and development and most of all by the total unreality of the battle scenes.
One thing I’ll never forget from this movie, is all the colored tracer fire used in the battle scenes.
This movie also stands as one of the few actually anti-war films out there, because it doesn't really present the heroes as "heroes" and really has no chill when it comes to showing how terrible and meaningless the whole experience is.
I absolutely love this movie, one of the best war movies and generally just a great movie all around. Deserves more ACHTUNG!!

I didn't like that the hero survived. I feel like the ending would have been a lot more poignant if backup arrived the next day with all of the main crew dead far too late to help.
Him lving based on a last second reinforcement seems to stand contrary to the brutality of the mortar shelling scene
No. Never. The one bit where the guy calls the kid a hero while all his friends sit dead in a burning hulk is honestly the greatest damnation of the uselessness of war.
This is such an under rated war movie.
Fury is a good movie but it's a shame we don't see more modern tanks (for ww2) like the Pershing or T30 and even king tigers. Fury also follows common tank inaccuracies for example the tiger fight although the tigers were fearsome they weren't invincible as the 76mm cannon used on the Easy Eight Sherman shown in the movie was more than capable of destroying the tiger (within the upper front plate) using the correct ammunition that is.
Girls Und Panzer?
Well, not seeing those tanks makes sense. They weren't exactly common. Heck, the US pretty much didn't run into Tigers either. And yeah, it has a lot of issues with inaccuracies, and that's made plain by the opening text. It right away establishes that the movie should be taken about as seriously as Girls Und Panzer (which is awesome. Silly, but awesome).
Things I makes it hard for me to take this movie seriously:
1-) Everything feels too clean, just the village rain scene in saving private ryan made everything look so real and grounded, messy and dirty, but fury feels clean, and I can't imagine something less clean than the inside of a tank in the middle of a war.
2-) The group dynamic of the tank crew was unecesarily awkward and at some points disgusting (like the scene with the french girls)
3-) Again with group dynamics, Brad Pitts Character is straight up a war criminal in this movie, like the scene when he is making our main protagonist shoot a surrendered soldier, the scene dragged for way too long, it was a bit unrealistic (I mean there wasn't a single officer in that bunch of people to stop that??), and I get that he was trying to teach a lesson to the kid because he needs his crew with the tank survival mentality and to set aside their mercy to some degree But come on... he could've teach him that in infinite ways and they chose the one with the most shock value (because ofcourse they did) and the one that seemed the most written by an teenager edgelord.
4-) This is not a valid point just wanted to throw this out there. I HATE Shia LafkingBuff, I think he is a pretensious prick who has at least 200 less IQ than the number in his head, he is generaly an ashole to the comon folk, yelling at waiters, picking up fights in the streets with people who only asked for this autograph (be thankfull someone wants your autograph for basically yelling OPTIMUUUUUUUUUSSS for most of your carreer you talentless pansy), so yes... watching that excuse for an actor screaming "ONWARD" for the whole movie and getting paid for it took at least 10 years of my life in liver damage.

6-) The Last battle was... "Call of Dutyesk"?? I mean they survived that long just because those Germans behaved like Call of Duty most basic of NPCs, they just ran straight to their bullets and kept shooting to an armored vehicle with thier rifles... instead of doing the obvious of taking cover, send the anti-tank squad around it (behind cover!!) and start putting holes in it, whitch they eventually did but after loosing countless troops that never were taught to taking cover in basic training. The only thiing the germans needed to to do was

B-)Anti-tank personel flank around it
C-)Place a rifleman taking aim TO THE ONE AND ONLY HATCH this tank has on the top! in case Brad Pitt wants to do it the call of duty way and pick out of it with a machinegun and gun down all those none covertaking soldiers that are running about...
