I’m not a fan of Zhang Hao, but I find the way in which you and many people are covering this is problematic. Sexuality is not controversy! To phrase attempts to yank this young man out of the closet as valid criticism is disgusting. As someone who was outed in my teens in the conservative American south, I still bear the physical and emotional scars from that time. You have also misinterpreted some comments because of the lack of context. Zhang Hao’s ‘controversies’ aren’t controversies. If he is indeed gay, he joins other Chinese/Taiwanese celebrities like Aaron Yan and Hush being popular in show business while gay. I know it’s a big deal in Korea, but a lot of the world are scratching their heads. As for any Chinese communist performances - even if he did perform at a state event, everyone knows he’s Chinese. Do people really not know in 2023 that government propaganda figures heavily in schooling and popularity in China? Vote for a Chinese person, yes, and understand that this is normal growing up in China.
