*That Birdy is real nice. I have a foldie as well and I upgraded the drivetrain to Shimano Dura-Ace on this bike, it's super fast and a blast to ride.*
I live in Tokyo, and have both a Birdy and a Brompton. Both bikes have seen lots of modifications and improvements, and I enjoy using both. My Brompton is a Ti model with an external 5 speed driveline, and tips the scales at 9kg. I like it because it is convenient for carrying a dog basket on the front, it is great for running errands to local shops, and fits easily in the back of my car. My Birdy features a Dura-Ace-XTR Di2 driveline with 11 gears. With 20” wheels and a 40t cassette it is a great bike for the steeper hills and mountain roads. It weighs 8.5kg. I put together the Brompton for local commuting and short-to-medium distance rides, and the Birdy is set up for longer rides over more difficult terrain. But of course, putting together bikes makes me something of a bike geek, meaning that I am always planning on putting together a bike, or actually doing it. I recently got a Moulton, and am not using either the Brompton or the Birdy that much.
@carywatmore thank you. Should have one, especially you have few bromptons. More stable for long ride. You may check my other video when I convert Birdy into MTB one 😃
I have the Birdy Touring, lovely ride, looking at getting a Brompton, just because the fold is smaller, the upgrades you did to the Birdy, are these upgrades e.g 20” wheels be achievable on my touring frame?
Which Birdy is your base Birdy City or a Birdy R 20? Also which is better the Birdy made in Germany by Risse & Mueller or the Birdy made in Signapore by Pacific Cycles?
Hi Geriann, one shown in this episode is originally Birdy 2 Gen 2 with 18inch wheel. But it was almost fully upgraded : groupset, BB ceramic speed, wheelset 20. For the production, so far I know, most of production is done in Taiwan as the brand of R&M is acquired by Pacific cycles Taiwan. But, if one know better the production location now, kindly advise. Thanks
Hi Harry, thank you for your comment. Saddle is one of very essential part in the bike especially for long ride. In my experience, I faced problem with longer size saddle, so I finally choose this type, Boira Duopower, that suited my posture and comfortable for me. But not everybody is guaranteed to feel the same. But nothing wrong to try. Have a fun ride 🙏
Do you upgrade the shimano Zee RD or you ask the shop to install? I tried to install in my GT but somehow the hanger seem like too long and different than in your video.. hope you can give me some light if you have..
Thank you for sharing !!! Could I pls ask what crankset did you change to on your Birdy. I wanted to change to litepro hollow crankset but no one will tell me if it fits. I have 1st gen Birdy disc.
Hi Nigel, I have changed two times. The first one is from Birdy one to become double speed. But i felt it too light for me so thenI change to single speed 56T litepro. I think 56 is enough to gain enough speed for Birdy, while also enough room when you have it folded. Safe drive.
@@ATCyclingCanal Thank you Sir!!! Thats really good to know. You are very kind as some people don't bother to share. Really appreciate your answers!!! Both your Bikes are very cool in the video.
Hi, I have both, and both has different characteristic. Brompton is practically easy to bring when travelling, while Birdy can use 20 inch wheelset for better performance in riding and touring.
I have different experience riding these bikes. For smooth road, and not so many uphill track, such in downtown, Brompton could be better ride. I love the size of Brompton in folded condition. However, with Birdy, I enjoy long ride with different track contour and road condition, with faster speed and different angle of riding.
Birdy is not the 2nd smallest folded bike as mentioned in your video. Tyrell IVE 18" wheels with similar folding method has smaller folded dimension in all aspect compared to Birdy who is fitted with 18" wheels.
@@jiafongwee3080 : Hi Fong Wee, Dahon K3 with 14 inch is one of smaller size bike with 3 stages in folding (compared with Brompton with 4 folding stages). Unfortunately, I dont have that bike, I have one similar size , Fnhon Freedom with 3 stages of folding, and some other Fnhon family.
Hi Keith, Birdy is design not really for racing like Road Bike, so with 35 km/h contants should be good though. I bought this version years ago and it came with 18" inch wheel only. It has been gone through few time mods and upgrades. It used to have FD with 2 speed (2×10 speed), but after few long distance tracks, I feel the smallest front gear is not useful and adding weight, so I took off the FD+ shifter, and changed the double chainring to single one 56T. There are various of Birdy type offered at store now, so one can choose which one most suited for them. Good hunting Keith !
@@keithtan9094 : My pleasure. It always fun to look around before decide which to buy. Please share to me your decision then. I have another folding bike Reach with 20-22 inch WS, which considered more reliable for long ride and speed. It has drop bar and flat version as well. I will make a review in nearest future. Happy Sunday 🙏
Hi Agustin, the Brompton version in this video is Brompton Titanium (Mod Upgrade) with weight of 9.6 kg. You may check another version in my earlier video : th-cam.com/video/XjPkg1UpVU8/w-d-xo.html
brompton could easily build a 12 inch wheeled folding bike with thicker tyres.... This would sell IMO even more than it is 16 inch brother version due to the smaller compact size !!!!! I am convinced about this ..
Yes I am sure. I have friend who can build the small version of Brompton with 12 inch tyres. It is called amall version of Billiton. But it was stopped as not really commercial for local market here.
I have both Birdy n Brompton. Its true that Brompton folds easier than the Birdy. BUT you killed Birdy just by displaying your lousy folding skill... Cheh
Thank you and thanks God for His Blessing. Everything can be obtained with hardwork 🙏🙏🙏. A lot of affordable bike with satisfying features as well. I will explore some with interesting theme later. Thanks for watching 🙏🙏🙏

Good video - was thinking about the birdy as i have a few bromptons

What model is the derailer /tensioner for the brompton?

Yes, it is still foldable with 20-22 inch wheel. should be no impact to rack gor bag.
Tell us about your experiences in MRT stations, which bike is easier to push in and out of the stations.
In folded condition, Brompton wins.
the birdy looks nice. what king of model is it? also how much do they cost? thanks
Hi Thsudy, it is Birdy 3. But it was most parts upgraded.
Beautiful!

Hi. Where did u get the pedal holder on your rear easy wheel?

Which brand Bell did you fit for Brompton (right side) ?
Hi Prasad Rao, there is no brand name. It was printed as "vintage style loud bike bell"
