Beginners Guide to Money

  • Perhaps the biggest difference between Football Manager and other big soccer/football games cough FIFA cough is the fact that money is incredibly dynamic and realistic. As we all know, everyone reading this is a master of making money in real life and in FM, but in case finances are something you need help understanding (in FM only lol lmao rofl) then it’s the next part of our beginner’s guide series for Football Manager.
If your finances go bad, FM becomes very not fun very quickly. Of course, our purpose here on this channel is, in part, to help Football Manager be very fun! Yay! Fun winning! Actually, with money it’s more about signing whoever you want and keeping your club healthy so you can afford to keep your super good team together and improve the stadium. Go forth and conquer the money in FM so that things like tactics can annoy you instead!
    Much Love,
    FM Senpai

I genuinely think this series is something that the community has desperately needed for a while. The tutorials to the game really comes off as word vomit that you'll pay attention through the first two (hopefully), and by the tenth you've just completely lost it and realize you haven't been paying attention for a while. All the stuff you can find online ends up being about in depth topics, way heavier than you're looking for, and you end up more confused than when you opened your browser. Thanks for making a series that'll help get more people into this wonderful game Zealand.

Don't know about the community, but speaking as a casual ganer who hasn't played the game since it was CM, FM2022 is very daunting to get into. This series helps with that a great deal. Welcome an advanced tutorial series as well.

For some 3:45 context, Camp Nou has 90000ish seats. For a fully sold out match that will translate into something between 45.000 and 55.000 tickets sold (the remaining 45.000ish seats being season tickets holders) Wich, with an average price of 70€ per ticket, will give you about 3.850.000€ per game just in tickets sale, give or take some extra hundreds of thousands in gameday sales (food, drink, merch...) and the fact that the stadium won't be always sold out (it averages about 80% attendance per season).
For a team like Barcelona let's say that translates into 4 million€ per game (we on the upper side for sure), for 19 league games, 6 UCL games (for a Semi finals run) and 3 Cup games (that definitely generate much less money) that will give us about 112M€ per year. Just in direct stadium revenue, as we assumed a lot of data we could say its probably somewhere between 100M and 130M for a FCB sized club.

That's turnover not profit though. While the ticket sales against matchday overheads is probably a high percentage, concessions and merchandising will have substantial production/retail costs. Then tax. Then costs like stewards, policing contributions, medical staff, cleaners. Christ knows how much a huge club like Barca turnover on game day but it ain't £4M profit!

    • @xXPAKSLAYERXx
      @xXPAKSLAYERXx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

I may have worded it poorly but i'm pretty sure i didnt say it was profit at any point (maybe?). In any case, i was thinking about income the whole time, not pure profit. Another thing i should have done is calculating how much money per game is made from the initial season tickets sale in summer, as i thing i't would make a pretty significant amount that may make up for the errors i made. I'm a UEFA Pro coach and i shared classroom with some Malaga FC (now in spanish 2nd tier) professionals, back in the day and they used to say that the income/speding ratio during matchday (for a much smaller club than FCB) was somewhere between 2.5 and 3 to 1. Not sure if it may apply to bigger clubs or different business models but i think we can say that at least 2.5 or 3 millions are made per game

If a player is determined to leave, as a bigger club is interested or have actively put in a transfer offer in, and you HAVEN'T promised anything then you can easily bypass that
    1) Loan the player out as this will remove other clubs interest in him
    2) Offer a new contract as he will be interested now without the disruptive interest
    3) Recall the player from loan, note that there's a 30 day minimum requirement to do this for some reason. This means that if its in a short window like the Jan prem window you ain't getting the lad back till the end of the year, as you can't recall players outside of transfer windows.
I'm not sure if this is something that Zealand hasn't considered or doesn't consider valid due to it being gamey AF, though winning the CL with HamKam is also a tad unlikely soooooo?

I've sold 3 or 4 players to raise funds, and although my transfer budget is now back up to 60 million, I'm over my wage budget and can't buy anyone what so ever, I'm over by a few hundred thousand per week. Can't use my slider for some reason though. The slider is already all the way to the left. I do have a "work within wage budget" club vision for the season, do you think that might be the reason?

I have a question about match day expenses. Me and a friend of mine played in a low league in Bosnia, we played with 2 clubs from the same town. The clubs were basically the same, everything in the club was on the same level, yet somehow I paid about 50000€ a year on Match day expenses when my friend spent about 5000€. I have no idea why it happens. It stayed the same for both of us as we went up trough the leagues. I hope you have some answers Zealand 😁
We also play on the same stadium

Almoast all good wonderkids are willing to cpme to the club and you are able to sell players for great fees. Probably the best out of the big leagues team to do it with. Aim super high, like i mean the best club in the world thing, it is possible. Excited to follow your journey!!!

Hah, 14:56 you sell him, for whatever price you can get. I don't want anyone on my squad who doesn't want to be there. If you're looking elsewhere, I'm going to send you elsewhere. Chances are, I have 3-4 players looking to take that spot but that player is in the way. Go elsewhere so the new manager can fit your square peg skillset into his tactic's round hole which makes you look like a failure (compared to your time with my club). As a result, I have a fair amount of turnover in my squad but I also typically have a ton of money while still getting results on the pitch. Offer comes in, agent says 'My client would like to talk to X club'. Cool! Let's negotiate the offer and remove you from the squad while negotiations go on. Your backup becomes the starter and a younger player moves into the backup spot. I want a squad full of Josip Brekalos (whose agent always says, "My client isn't interested in speaking to Man Utd, PSG, Real Madrid, Porto, Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea, Tottenham" so far).

Maybe calling your series "Footballmanager for Dummies" isnt optimal for the kind people you want to reach/educate. Sure most people on 3000h+ wont care since they know or should know all that stuff anyways so they wont apply the notion to themselves. Real beginners i imagine dont like to be catagorized as "Dummies" just because they are new to the game i.e inexperienced(not necessarily low IQ). This kind of results in, you coming across as slighty arrogant allthough i think you dont intend that. I would think the idea of this series is to elevate beginners level of understanding, not pointing out how vast the knowledge gap between beginners and experienced players is. Maybe choose a more inclusive headline. Just a thought ;-)

I have over thousands of hours collectively since FM 2008, and even tho I am watching Zealand only because I like his content and the subject is something I like. Yet... sometimes I cannot figure something out and I want it to be explained to me in the most simplest way, like explaining it to a dummy.
