You’re videos are very simple and helpful. I’m looking for a hardware to use for the sessions live streaming app. I thought at first I need an interface and a mixer, but seems like I only need a mixer for my guitar and vocals to go to USB connection to OBS software. I’m thinking of using just a DAW, but since I play a guitar I need something else to send to OBS. Thank you Pete.

I tried it just using the M-Audio Mtrack 2x2 directly and works but I can only input 2 mics there... I would like to just use the mixer usb but just doesn't work properly I can never hear my guests... any tips??? my Mixer is the Behringer Xenyx QX1202USB.... any tips appreciated!!! thanks
Hey there. What you’re looking for is a “mix minus” setup. I use this on my Zoom LiveTrak but not sure how you do this on your device. In short, you need to ensure that you can hear the audio form your device, but it is not sent back to the device otherwise you’d get an echo.
Just got this for Christmas and it is awesome! I have two questions. How do you connect the mixer to the camera? And what is your most recommended option for the output from the mixer?
Hey there. It really depends on the camera you are using. And output can either be to monitor speakers or headphones. All my recommendations are here - studiolivetoday.com/gear If you want more advice, consider joining the Create Record Release Facebook group - createrecordreleaae.com
For some reason when I plug in my iPad with the aux cable to one of the channel inputs on the mixer, I only hear the one channel. How would I fix this? Would I need to use a mini six cable to plug into my iPad?
Hey there. You will need a stereo cable and plug in to two channels on the mixer. Or if you have a stereo channel, make sure you are using a stereo cable. Check out this page for information about cables - studiolivetoday.com/cables
I have a question! Every time I connect my samson mixpad to my imac, there's this like hiss or whine through my headphones and speakers and its so annoying! I don't know where its coming from or what it is!! It gets louder as i crank up the USB return thing. Also, every time I try to record audio on FL studio or any other DAW, it never fully captures my voice. The monitoring is very loud but as soon as I record the audio is just a straight line and its almost silent. I need helo figuring this out. If you can help me out with wtv you know that would mean so much! I don't know if my Mixpad is broken or not and its stressing me out.
Hey there. Yeah, sounds like a volume and gain level issue. You might need to try turning down the gain knob and volume sliders and slowly bringing them up. Maybe provide some more info a en ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group? createrecordreleaae.com
Hey there my friend. For live streaming I’m using the Audio Technica AE3300. It’s a little bit of overkill but I picked sit up second hand for a great price. Previously I used (and loved) the AT2020. All my recommended mics are on my gear guide at studiolivetoday.com/gear if you’d like to take a look.
Howdy Pete! I have a question. A while ago, I got an USB Audio Interface. When I have my levels set with my piano and mic and output both channels to my iPad through USB, the piano sound comes in on the left and the mic audio comes out on the right. So, I am guessing the output would be mono, not stereo? While looking at the back of my interface I found two monitor outputs. If I plug those in and connect them to my computer, will the sound be in stereo?
Hey there. So, a two channel interface when connected as a stereo output is basically a stereo signal panned hard left and hard right. Connecting to a DAW like GarageBand lets you centre each channel so they basically become centred mono. You’ll notice though that other apps that just use the stereo input will instead put one on the left and one on the right. The only way to work around this is in editing afterwards, or using a mixer that allows you to se the panning.
So I heard you use StreamYard! This puts me at ease since I wanted to know if I could set up a combo mixerface as the input for my livestream using the same platform. I'm trying to find a decent audio interface/mixer for two mics and an acoustic guitar in the $300 range. Any suggestions?
Hey there. Yes, the Zoom LiveTrak is a great option for this but is US$400. Everything o have come across in the $300 or cheaper range only allows stereo output (not recording of individual channels). If you’re okay with that, check out the Samson MixPad or Yamaha MG series.
Thanks for the quick response! I have been looking into the Yamaha MG10XU, but have received mixed reviews with many commenting on how quiet the USB out is. I have not, however, looked into the Samson's, so thank you!
Can I still use a mixer as an alternative of an audio interface (just so I can connect it to the pc or laptop) and stock a digital mixer program of the D. A. W. (like FL studio) on it
Yup, you can indeed but most low need digital mixers will only send two channels (left and right) to the DAW. This video should explain things - th-cam.com/video/1VC1Dho7nh0/w-d-xo.html
I have the Scarlett solo can I direct the output into a lead that can go into my phone iPhone 11 max ? Then my mic would it come through to fb live ? Help lol
Hey thank you for the useful video. In this setup, Is this possible to apply effects from your pc to the inputs of the mixer. For example, can you use a DAW or some recording software on your PC to apply some delay on your guitar while you are playing guitar. And also have this working in a life stream.
Hi John, great vids! Just bought a focusrite solo 2i2 thanks to your vids!! I record live guitar and vocals. How do I do this onto my iPhone and then adjust the mix of the guitar and vox separately? Are there any apps? Thanks ever so much and great vids by the way! Stu.
Hey, thanks for replying Pete, superb👍🏻👍🏻. I’ve just found an app by Focusrite which gives you the ability to stick a bit of reverb on so all good👍🏻. I’ve also got a mixing desk now so I’ll use that too. Thanks again mate, vids are ace. I followed your GarageBand mastering video and it was bloody spot on!! Good work👍🏻
Hi! Thanks for the video. I'd like to know if I can use each of those channels/faders to control the volume of specific things running on Windows... For example: 1st for voice(from mic), 2nd one for music(e.g.Spotify), 3rd for game audio (e.g. Fortnite)... Pretty much like goxlr does... I know goxlr will create multiple audio devices on Windows... Allowing us to customize things... And one more question: Am I able to mute music for viewers, while myself being able to listen to it.. or vice versa... Hey thanks a lot!
Hey there. Generally these sort of mixers control external audio sources. Something that can control your internal audio is more like a control surface or virtual mixer and unfortunately I don’t have experience with this.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Oh, got it. I was doing some more research and seems I can achieve what I want... or close enough, by using a mixer. Thank you again man!
PETE!!! Your amazing and I have been educating myself like crazy through you. I purchased 2 guitar interfaces/line6 and Donner, downloaded the apps. Both don’t work. I feel like I’m so close but ...?idk. Im trying to make a clean guitar recording to play back or live stream on Facebook. But nothing, no signal . I’m holding off on the irig2 only because I don’t want to throw $ out. I just picked up a Mackie 1202 vsl pro. No asb. Will this work to my I phone 8 plus?. Is my iPhone 8plus the problem? Where is my problem? Thanks in advance Raul
Hey there my friend. You might want to check out this video where I go through exactly what you need to look for in an interface and how to set it up. th-cam.com/video/Sc-_LiuqiRA/w-d-xo.html
Excellent video. Thank you. I wonder why a person with GarageBand MacOS or Logic Pro for would need an audio interface if they were ok with using 1 or 2 channels (maximum of 2 channels)? It looks like it uses a USB B adapter? Is the USB cable included? It seems like this would do as much as an audio interface, and more. What am I missing here? I am inclined to buy this and use it instead of my Scarlet 2i2. Thanks again.
Hey Larry. Yes, a mixer with a USB interface is a great solution, especially if you ever plan to do anything live. Even if you are recording 1/2 channels it’s a pretty solid solution. The downside is that mixers can sometimes have slightly lower quality preamps, because they need to include 4 instead of just 1/2, and in the case of the Samson it is a 16-bit interface instead of 24-bit like the Scarlett. If you want the beat of both worlds, check out the Yamaha MG series or the Zoom Livettak mixers which are 24-bit and have great preamps. However o have used the Samson for a couple of years and never complaints about quality.
hey guy ı just wonder how it is possible to connect a mic through a mixer to live stream also hear the live stream via pa speakers connected to mixer . Is an usb output to pc enough for it? do i need any input to mixer to hear the tracks that ı played on pc
@@PeteJohnsMusic wow thank u for kind reply. my mixer is one of the old one and doesnt have usb out. it has xlr and quarter jack out. xlr/jack to usb cable also work for this get the mic and send the speakers with no loop etc thank you thank yıu
Very true. I used an interface for a long time and it worked great. I like try e mixer because I can have instant control to things like turning up and down volume. This is possible with an interface of course but just a little more fiddly.
Hey there. In short, I juts connect via USB and then connect up my devices to the inputs. I then select the stereo output from the mixer as my sound source in whatever I’m streaming with. (StreamYard, OBS). The system audio loops back through channel 7 with the USB option selected there.

hi pete? any tips for me? when i plug my gm10xuf in my smartphone to record only audio or even a video it s works very well with all the fx etc... but when i do a facebook live the sound is not very good! :/ any help?
The Facebook mobile app is strange as it doesn’t allow connections of high quality mics and interfaces via USB. It overrides these with the internal mic which is SUPER frustrating. I’m working to find a way to solve this but struggling a little.
Hi Pete, after watching your video i bought this mixer for my streamyard live programme,,, But after going in live,,My voice creating echo/double voice while others guests mic is on but when others guests mic off i can talk and sing without echo problem. Same for my guest if my mic is off then they can talk each other without having this problem. Can you teach me if there is any mixer set up issue which i cant set properly thus this problem is coming?pls help
Hey there. So yes, what you need to do is set up a “mix minus” if you’re using channel 5 to bring the USB audio back in otherwise as you mentioned you’ll create a loop. To do this, set up your master channel as you normally do, but then switch your monitoring headphones down from master to Mix A. Then hit the mixer button and switch from master to mix A and set the levels the same. Finally; go back to Master and turn down the USB channel. Hey his will mean that YOU will hear your computer audio and guests, but you won’t be sending their audio back out with your own and creating a loop. Hope this helps.
@@PeteJohnsMusic i set up mix minus by using two cable in channel 5/6: 1st cable's one end put into channel 5/6 another end into a adapter's headphone port,,,2nd cable's one end put into FX SEND port, another end into adapters microphone port and finally adapter cables another end put into laptops headphones port . I got this idea fm another video from youtube as you didn’t advise exactly how to set up mix minus,,,Pls advise if i go to live it will work without any echo/double voice problem in between of my all panel guests in streamyard?
Is the mixer Driver an ASIO driver? OBS does not work with ASIO drivers. It will take only one mono track. Are you sure that your sound coming out of OBS was STEREO (and not summed stereo on L and R)? What you had panned on your mixboard, does it arrive PANNED? Did you ever have more than one track in to be able to tell?
Question : I have music playing from a software inside my computer, how can I isolate that audio to be controlled on the mixer? While streaming I would like to adjust the volume constantly on the mixer and not on the software on the computer because the computer screen will be busy with my webcam and game or any video playing. Thanks!!
Can I use any mixer to connect it to my PC for Facebook live? My PC only has a headphone jack. Do I need to buy a USB type mixer or is any mixer OK? I'm looking at the behringer 1002fx. Thank you

Nice to see and know you have the same mixer of samson mixpad like me,,,I need a solution from you badly if you can help..I always going live by using my android phone along with this mixer in streamyard and during live there is couple of panel guest/singer always. Here is my mixer set up: Microphone in channel 1 Guitar in channel 3 Another phone for karaoke truck playing in channel 6/7 Head phone in headphone port In TAPE/USB section --- for hearing into headphone or add karaoke always pressed "TO MAIN MIX" button & to hear guest and other sound though headphone always pressed "TO MIX 2 + PHONES" button. Now the problem is while i'm talking or singing something during that time if others guest unmute their mic and say something a very horrible echo/sound distortion is coming means to listen me clearly others guests must need their mic keep on mute. And whenever i kept my mic on mute others guest dont having such issue-they can keep continue the live session with good sound quality. Can you help me out if you have any guidelines to resolve it?Thanks in advance.
Hi Pete . Love your videos . Just wanted to ask you something . Is there any way I can connect my guitar directly to Instagram live using an irig 2 and play along using effects from amplitube and a backing track ?
Hello, Jowen here from Canada. I am using Yamaha MG10XU, using USB for input and output for recording. During playback I get low gain volume. It doest even reach 0.5 db. If I use stereo output using 1/4 to USB, volume is up, but accompanied with loud noise. I tried everything, I was thinking to buy audio interface and connect to my mixer, but I am afraid It will have the same result. Should I change my laptop? I have HP i3.I just want to have the same volume during a playback. Do you have tips for me?
Hmmmm.... this one seeks quote strange? Just making sure you have checked all the gain settings on each track, the master fader and your software? I haven’t had any issues like this with my Samson or ZOOM mixers so not quite sure what to suggest sorry?
I'm trying to do Facebook Live using my iPhone 12, and running the audio through a Yamaha mixer--for high quality sound--preferably through the USB interface. iPhone 12 has no headphone jack, only the lightning jack at the bottom. How do I get audio from my mixer to my iPhone?
Facebook App is pretty dodgy when it comes to audio input and often rejects USB devices. I use StreamYard to stream to Facebook for the is reason. You can try unplugging and plugging back in once the app is loaded.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Ok...tnx...looking for Streamyard on iPhone apps... Haven't found it yet. I see iLive. Have you tried it? Also, do you connect the lightning port on the phone directly to the USB B connector on your mixer? I have a cable--lightning to USB A, like on the iPhone charger, but not to B.

Might be your headphones mix vs the master mix setting? Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.
The Samson mixer I show in this one is only a stereo mixer. If you want multiple channels you’ll need something like this - th-cam.com/video/UW2OnSn03y8/w-d-xo.html
The problem I am having is that all my PC sounds are being heard out of my mic. Meaning if I am watching a youtube video (You) everyone in discord can hear the audio. If I talk to people in discord, they can hear themselves splashing into my mic. Same with gameplay. My current setup is a PYLE PMXUJ43BT w/Shure SM7B Mic - I can not figure out what I am doing wrong.
Yeah this is a common issue and related to getting a “mix minus” signal where you can hear this audio but others can’t. Usually you need to ensure that your PC audio is routed to your headphones but not to the stream.
I did watch this thru the end It is very nice gadget for doing live streaming but I guess this is too expensive And for now even though that i don’t really understand everything you said if im going to buy this then i need to asked so many times before i got put it together
Hey Pete , maybe a silly question to ask , but for just a 2 channel USB interface and less work, do you think the Samson gtrack pro would give you a similar result ?
Hey there Gerard. Yes, there are a heap of simpler options like the G-Track (which I really must check out soon!). I like the flexibility a mixer gives me personally, it have used interfaces with gold results in the past.

Hey there. I can’t really remember what I was doing here, but I tend to keep the main channels 1-4 for mic and guitars as they have the preamps. 7-12 are stereo line in jacks that don’t need preamps.
Hey there. I do offer mixing and mastering services on occasions. Send me an email with some details of what you’re looking for and I can let you know what I can offer. pete@studiolivetoday.com
how come when you turn your mic up, you get louder but there is no noise? if i turn my mic up, you can hear me breath from 20 feet away lol but turn i turn it down a smudge and its not loud enough
It all depends on the microphone and preamp that you are using. The better quality these are, the lower the “noise floor” which is what you are experiencing.

I'm using a HP pc going usb to my M-Audio Mtrack 2x2 and from there to my Behringer Xenyx X2222USB mixer... Thanks! any help is much appreciated - David
Hey David. So what you’re looking for is a “mix minus” setup. On my Zoom Livetrak I do this by having a separate mix for my headphone arhat includes the PC audio so I can hear guests, but have this channel turned down on the master feed going in to StreamYard. You do then need to do some fancy switching on the fly if you want music to be heard or other audio form your PC. Suggest checking the manual or looking online for your mixer model and “mix minus”. Good luck!

All my recommendations are here - studiolivetoday.com/gear
If you want more advice, consider joining the Create Record Release Facebook group - createrecordreleaae.com
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you much! Just orders the cable!
Would it work with a shure sm7b?
Yep. You’ll get decent gain through the preamps but may want to consider a cloud lifter or similar gain increase device.
Hey Pete, what mic do you use right now?
Hey there my friend. For live streaming I’m using the Audio Technica AE3300. It’s a little bit of overkill but I picked sit up second hand for a great price. Previously I used (and loved) the AT2020.
All my recommended mics are on my gear guide at studiolivetoday.com/gear if you’d like to take a look.
What is the name of your mixer sounds?
Pete Johns Thank you so much! Is there anyway I can use the DAW with a livestream?
Can I use this and sing live and play piano thru phone and then add reverb etc basically so I can sing live on fb
Yup. A mixer is great for exactly that. I use mine every week for my live Happy Hour show - th-cam.com/play/PLc8Xg_23Wa57Z77dEeed5QMwVMZThB9Hs.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you and can I have my echo on lol

Hey thank you for the useful video. In this setup, Is this possible to apply effects from your pc to the inputs of the mixer. For example, can you use a DAW or some recording software on your PC to apply some delay on your guitar while you are playing guitar. And also have this working in a life stream.
Yup. If you use a DAW or an effects processor on your PC you can then stream this effected sound.
Great! Can i ask? How to connect 4-5 headphone monitor in just one go mixer pro monitor
Hey there. You would likely need a headphone splitter or additional headphone amp to do something like this.
@@PeteJohnsMusic what is the splitter because i just have one monitor in my go mixer
Stu.
Live videos I mean. Cheers.
Hey there. You can record using the camera app, or any camera app, but the ability to mix and process live is what is missing really.
Thanks in advance

Yeah you can set the USB channel to send the audio to the PC and also send i to headphones or speakers to monitor.
@@PeteJohnsMusic wow thank u for kind reply. my mixer is one of the old one and doesnt have usb out. it has xlr and quarter jack out. xlr/jack to usb cable also work for this get the mic and send the speakers with no loop etc thank you thank yıu
Thats a good way to record videos like a 10 minute beat making challenge and still have pc audio
Or if you want to record games and microphone at the same time
Yep - really good option for live streams or combining different audio sources quickly and easily.
Instead also a simple usb audio device can be used. All the mixing and eq'ing is then done in software.
Very true. I used an interface for a long time and it worked great. I like try e mixer because I can have instant control to things like turning up and down volume. This is possible with an interface of course but just a little more fiddly.
@@PeteJohnsMusic That's true, although a (midi) DAW controller could be used to get the same feel and easy control.
Yup - very good point.
Hi!
I would really appreciate it if you could do a videi featuring the effects of this mixer.
Thanks!
Yeah good suggestion. I don’t use this mixer much anymore however.
No worries mate if you have the time.
Pete -- I'm a bit not clear about how you all connected the wires and bring the master sound to your live streaming 😥
Hey there. In short, I juts connect via USB and then connect up my devices to the inputs. I then select the stereo output from the mixer as my sound source in whatever I’m streaming with. (StreamYard, OBS). The system audio loops back through channel 7 with the USB option selected there.

any tips for me? when i plug my gm10xuf in my smartphone to record only audio or even a video it s works very well with all the fx etc... but when i do a facebook live the sound is not very good! :/ any help?
The Facebook mobile app is strange as it doesn’t allow connections of high quality mics and interfaces via USB. It overrides these with the internal mic which is SUPER frustrating. I’m working to find a way to solve this but struggling a little.

Hey there. Yes, anything with a stereo output of some sort will work fine.
Hi I'm having the endless loop that you are talking about I'm using a Allen and heath zedfx22 and obs to stream please help??
Haven’t used that mixer sorry. You’ll need to search for how to create a “mix minus” mix for your board.
I don’t use OBS a heap now but pretty sure it was stereo. I use StreamYard a lot with this now and it’s definitely working well as a stereo mixer.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I heard about Streamyard! Thanks!
Question : I have music playing from a software inside my computer, how can I isolate that audio to be controlled on the mixer? Not quick sure what the question is here sorry? It really depends on what mixer you are using.

Hi Pete . Love your videos . Just wanted to ask you something . Is there any way I can connect my guitar directly to Instagram live using an irig 2 and play along using effects from amplitube and a backing track ?
Hey there. It is challenging to do with just one device. You normally need a separate device to use as the processing.
Be specific. What volume is low during playback? Volume from pc sounds? Mic sound? Another input?
Might be your headphones mix vs the master mix setting? Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.
Can i assign seperate inputs in my DAW using this mixer?
The Samson mixer I show in this one is only a stereo mixer. If you want multiple channels you’ll need something like this -
th-cam.com/video/UW2OnSn03y8/w-d-xo.html
The problem I am having is that all my PC sounds are being heard out of my mic. Meaning if I am watching a youtube video (You) everyone in discord can hear the audio. If I talk to people in discord, they can hear themselves splashing into my mic. Same with gameplay. My current setup is a PYLE PMXUJ43BT w/Shure SM7B Mic - I can not figure out what I am doing wrong.
Yeah this is a common issue and related to getting a “mix minus” signal where you can hear this audio but others can’t. Usually you need to ensure that your PC audio is routed to your headphones but not to the stream.
are you wearing headphones?
I did watch this thru the end
It is very nice gadget for doing live streaming but I guess this is too expensive
And for now even though that i don’t really understand everything you said if im going to buy this then i need to asked so many times before i got put it together
There are cheaper options like a USB mic or audio interface. Mixers are convenient for live audio.

Es compatible con obs..?
Yup. It will show up as a single or multiple audio sources in OBS.

What interface or mixer are you using? Might be the preamps not boosting the signal enough.
Nice!

Hi there. IRig? Not sure what you’re recording and to what sorry?
For Facebook live stream
Why can't you plug those items you have in channels 11/12 in the main channels in the 1/4 jack?
Hey there. I can’t really remember what I was doing here, but I tend to keep the main channels 1-4 for mic and guitars as they have the preamps. 7-12 are stereo line in jacks that don’t need preamps.
Hey Pete is there any way you could master my song for me on GarageBand?
Hey there. I do offer mixing and mastering services on occasions. Send me an email with some details of what you’re looking for and I can let you know what I can offer. pete@studiolivetoday.com
I'm hearing some hizz. What should I do?
What gear are you using? There will always be some background noise, especially if you are using a condenser mic.
how come when you turn your mic up, you get louder but there is no noise? if i turn my mic up, you can hear me breath from 20 feet away lol but turn i turn it down a smudge and its not loud enough
It all depends on the microphone and preamp that you are using. The better quality these are, the lower the “noise floor” which is what you are experiencing.

Good luck!
