    This is where a Ventrac would be the best option. They can mow down cattails in the middle of a swamp and keep on moving. It’ll also mow the banks of your pond, with little to no issues. The grass will always be there, I could make a full time job with 20 hours of overtime each week cutting the grass on my property. I was spending all my time cutting and though it looks pretty, I don’t make any money by making the farm beautiful every week. I’ve been slowly filling old horse pastures into tea fields, which turned a weekly job, into one I can do once a month. It’s just a slow go, since the variety I’m growing can only be plugged or clone. It’s an old Amish Variety that my grandfather brought from his childhood farm and planted 1 bush 20 years ago. In 5 years, I’ve managed to turn that one bush into 5 acres of Blue Mountain Tea. Try and get Ventrac out there and give you a demo. It’s such a versatile and well designed machine. The only problem are the prices, but the service is second to none and I’ve used many different mowers throughout my life and the Ventrac is by far the best mower for low lying wet swamped land and it’s brush cutter can handle some nasty stuff while going straight up a mountain side. Watch Diesel Creeks video of an older version of their machine and really see what kind of torture those mowers can take. It’s quite impressive.

    Yes to the mower reviews, as much as I enjoyed the tractor reviews I really don’t see a tractor in my future but a mower is a definite. About 6 years ago we moved onto an acre property and I was so excited to buy a Kubota zero turn and it has been a huge disappointment with costly maintenance. I thought I was buying the best and that was not the case.

    I seen this roll up cloth stuff with cement embedded into it that you can use for lining a ditch and then you spray it with the hose and the cement hardens. I wonder if that would work on your island if you could just get out there and wrap some of that around and it would harden up And create a small cement barrier to help reduce erosion. Maybe stick it in there with some of those giant staples they used to hold down tarps in the garden or that underlayment that you put under your gravel for a driveway. 🤔

    I put atv tires on my hustler. Problem solved. Mow a wet ditch weekly and haven’t got stuck yet. Before anyone says you’ll tear up the grass when you turn, yeah you will if you don’t drive with sense.

      That is what I was coming to say. The atv tires or ditchwitcher chevron tires will make night and day difference. I had a lawn tractor style mower and a bad muddy yard to mow. I used the ditchwitcher Chevron tires and never got stuck again.

    An option is a 2nd set of rear wheels with ag tires on them. Yes they will tear up the lawn if you mow the nicer part of the lawn. Last fall I bought a running Huskee garden tractor with no deck and a broken rear axle shaft for around $100. I kept the rear 4 bolt wheels with ag tires on them, turned around and sold the tractor for $150. The ag tires are probably going on the back of my Dixie Chopper.

    Yea mud season is a nightmare for zero turns. Last year I had to dump a bunch of woodchips in front of my shed to maintain traction while storing the mower. Eventually I need to put some gravel there but woodchips worked in a pinch.

    Great video. Family time 🦾🧬☀️Heck yea let’s see every mower.!! So much potential with all that water. I’ll have to go back in your videos and see what kind of drains you installed. Water management is my thing. I just built a recirculating system with two ponds fed by a natural stream. We installed automated dump valves to feed water off the waterfall to the gardens and animal feeders. It was a super fun job. Wish were aloud to video and photo it.

    The answer is a slightly better set of tires. Yes, you can tear up your lawn if you aren't careful. The same can happen with turf tires, too. I struggled with two low spots in my yard every spring, until the summer heat moves I'm. A good set of tires fixed that problem.

  • @jimdauphin1538
    @jimdauphin1538 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Happens every year here in WV. No question… let it dry and then use the bushhog. Then when you get good mowing conditions go back to the zero turn.

  • @ShaneZettelmier
    @ShaneZettelmier 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It’s funny, I live in Kentucky and Tennessee before that. I used to live in Southern California where rain was never a problem, but during spring through fall, it’s constant battle ground of trying to keep the grass from growing out of control in between rainstorms.😂 least you’ve got a bush hog if it gets too crazy.
    I’ve got a bad boy Maverick zero turn and only 2 acres and if it’s dry mowing is no big deal and a zip right through it but once it’s wet, then it’s a huge mess, I’ve got to be careful not to get stuck. Sometimes I do and then I have to get my truck out there and pull me out and at the end of it I’ve got a mower packed with wet grass. I have to deal with. I never cared about the weather before until I had to deal with mowing a decent size yard. I guess it’s all part of the fun but it is kind of a pain when your yard turns to mud and the grass is growing so fast you can almost see it real-time with your eyes.

    Howdy Brock! Great to see you have your priorities straight! Color me jealous... I have neither children nor grandkids. The pond looks incredible. Now you get to stress test the improvements you made to the bank next to your neighbor's property. Have you come up with what you are going to do with the island erosion?
    I am in the same boat... I can't get caught up on all the mowing because of how much rain we have been getting. I might have to invest in a bush hog because my pastures are so thick and tall. I only have about an acre of fenced in pasture. Took me almost 2 hours to do 1/3 of that! Just too much for my belly mower on the Mahindra to handle. Have to go really slow and do overlapping passes. Probably should look at the blades... I'm sure they need sharpened. Nicely done and thanks for sharing 🤠

  • @joehopkins515
    @joehopkins515 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Brock: I would also like you to do a comparison of the anti-stick sprays you spray on the underside of the mower deck to prevent wet grass from accumulating. I live in the Northwest and after each mowing job I have to use my MoJack to hoist up the mower to scrape the underside of the mower deck from wet grass buildup. I have tried all sorts of spray lubricants to prevent that buildup but none of them work.

    Yet another reason I don't use zero turns for my lawn business. I use john deere x700 series tractors especially in spring. 4x4 really makes a difference. Less damage to customer lawns.

    I've had my lawn tractor stuck in mud from irrigating a few times....looks passable until you get into it and sink up to the mower deck LOL.

    We're caught in that same weather pattern in Southern Missouri. I spent a marathon 8 hours cutting our 11 acres in the space between two storms. Whew.

    • @SetitesTechAdventures
      @SetitesTechAdventures 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm north of you in Jefferson County and dealing with much of the same weather. It's put fill dirt on my priority list as I need to fill up some of these poor draining spots so I don't have to walk around in mud boots. Was doing some tractor work and figured out that there some sort of plumbing or septic underneath the worse spot.
      Every year I swear I will stay on top of the grass. Haven't kept that promise yet. Though I did a little better than usual before the mud hit.

    Good morning Brock love your Chanel . on a back note 🎵 since you haven’t built the second bridge you might consider building it wide enough and strong enough to handle your tractor and a bucket full of your rocks on your hill or wherever you decide to gather the material for your island sides it would be cheaper in the long run to build it sturdy enough to handle your equipment, then to rent some big machinery to reach across you could use a dolly then from your bucket to the sides to drop it into the water. They will find their own spot and then pile up as you continue dropping them in off of your dolly and then you could always let it as a flat crossing to the island, or you could put the arches on it or whatever you decide to do the cosmetics on top you could kill two birds with one stone that way, and in the long run even though you’re making the bridge heavier sturdier it would be cheaper and more usable for that projectjust to consideration you may have already thought of it yours truly Willis J Myers the second Hanover, Pennsylvania God bless

  • @billyelmore6890
    @billyelmore6890 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would like to see mower and/or mower attachment reviews. Also, wait until your field dries out to cut it, even if you have to cut first w the brush hog. Else, you will get ruts that will take years to repair. Also, don’t cut grass or weeds when the grass is soaking wet. It adds a 30% load to the mower and the results will look terrible. Billy

    Hind sight is always 20/20 but you probably should have only left like 10k sqft for the demo test vs your entire yard :) Grass is growing fast this time of year. Could have cut some tall small section and recut anything left down to 2" or so. I'm in Central Wisc and Cool Season grass is growing crazy fast. I'm mowing every 2 to 4 days in between rainfalls. Once its that tall, it'll prob never dry out. Might as well bale some hay now.
