    I saw in an interview that she explained that this performance was an integration between a Victorian Ball with the underground BALL. Thus, she dragged it out and lip-synched for her life as its custom in an actual ball. This is why she didn’t even bother to wear a mic. This women is so ahead of her time! The younger generation of LGBTQ+ will never fully understand why she is the Queen. This is House Mother realness!

    She announced before hand it wasn’t going to be live, she was recreating a Harlem vogue ball so they were all in their French revolution Marie Antoinette realness drag and she lip synced for her life just like a drag ball or as you saw in Pose. That what I love about Madonna, the small details.

    • @howtoapply3186
      @howtoapply3186 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No way she lip synced because it’s the drag thing to do. Like a lip sync for your life thing. I think it’s a huge costume and huge amazing production. She sang the song originally so it’s whatever. But she’s even said she’s not the best singer. I’m just saying I don’t think doing this production and singing live was an option... just saying;)

    • @andrewthezeppo

      I think she always tries to sing live as much as humanly possible and yes she does have a microphone it is a headset.

    • @MsHEDONIST
      @MsHEDONIST 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@howtoapply3186 no, the concept is the House of Madonna presenting Marie Antoinette realness at a ball; including the legendary children of the House of Extravaganza, Jose Gutierez Xtravaganza and Luis Camacho Xtravaganza. It was supposed to be lip-synced because back then lip-syncing at the ballroom was just being introduced. Madonna said of herself that she's not the best singer out there but that doesn't mean she's not a good singer. She is great acoustic. Her voice means a lot to millions. It doesn't matter who does it, I don't like Madonna covers, for example. Dame Shirley Bassey , who I adore, covered "You'll See" but did not give me what Madonna does when she sings. Singing is much more than having octaves and this old age saying that Madonna is not a good singer needs to stop.

    • @Crazyshoppeuse

      @@andrewthezeppo No way. We are in 1990 and Madonna has to sing with a big mike if she wants to sing live. Imagine this performance with a big awful mike ! So she doesn't sing. I was in grade nine highschool and whether you were gay or straight first thing in the morning in the cafeteria all students could talk about was this performance. All her live performances were talked about in my catholic highschool. We had a huge art program including drama so Madonnas videos were often dissected and discussed. There were a few Madonna wannabees who performed vogue during our yearly talent night and the gays always drew a crowd. My personal art work was always heavily influenced by Madonna from paintings of woman in corsets, heals, tight body suits, blonde ponytails and cleavage. My art teacher in grade 12 asked me in private if I had an obsession with breasts and cleavage (lol). Its funny because haters of Madonna would often say she wont last she keeps changing her identity and that she doesnt have her own. However reinvention became Madonna and that is how this one lone female has been able to remain relevant, powerful, adored and respected by literally everyone in the music industry. Yes bow down bitches! Another great vlog Derek😁👏👏👏❤💙💚💛💜

    This performance was also part of MTV TOP 10 Most Memorable VMA Performances ever at #02 kept from #01 by Madonna "Like a Virgin" 1984 performance at the very first VMAs (this was voted the past decade the 10's). This was already 90's but 1990 so really early 90's. "Vogue" song was released in April and this performance was in early September (after her Blond Ambition Tour that was from April to August that year). This song and this performance certainly inspired a lot of later 90s songs and performances. She did not sing it live and that was assumed. The inspiration for this scenery and especially her costume was born from both the movie Dangerous Liaisons -check out Glenn Close's dress for this 1988 movie- and also from Marie Antoinette. Her former costumer in that time explained all this in an interview. The nobility in the French Epoche was all about posing. Strike A Pose babe! No doubt this was one of the most amazing MTV's live shows ever. Unfortunately, VOGUE didn't get all the awards I think it well deserved. This elegant, glamorous and so danceable housy tune was the perfect opening for the 90s decade. Only Madonna could achieve such historical milestones.

    OG Madonna fan here. She was at the height of her popularity and this performance was one of the pinnacles of Madonna-dom! There's a reason so many people urged you to watch this one! Seen onstage are longtime backup singers Niki and Donna, and two members of the House of Xtravaganza. I have a recommendation for you and it's off the beaten path: there's a number called "Masquerade" in the movie version of "Phantom of the Opera" which is an INSANELY choreographed/costumed number featuring vogueing. PS after all these years that first SNAP of the fans STILL gives me goosebumps!

      I was 13 years old when they did this. I truly thought that Madge was singing about the magazine when the song came out, even after seeing the video. Then I saw this and I "GOT" it. I loved how the audience gave props to Niki and Donna when they came out, and my heart stopped for that fan flip. My classmates at school the next day couldn't stop talking about it. Even now, people are STILL shook by this.

    For me this what perfomance should be, no matter if its live or not, but to do something iconic, others try but its looks cheap and easy to imitate, MADONNA is 100% just work and admire her , beacuse you see her real hard work, please react to MADONNA " Like a virgin blond ambition tour"

    Fue todo tan increíble!!! El baile, la vestimenta, la puesta en escena... Un tema para bailar que estaba hecho teatro. El mensaje transgresivo, una clase social empaquetada, hipócrita, con posturas convencionales y protocolo establecidos, pero en el fondo entregadas a sus deseos más ocultos y animales, fumando opio a escondidas, la mujer mostrando su sexualidad cuando siempre había sido el hombre, sugerencias de orgia, homosexualidad, genitalidad explicita ....fue soberbio, creativo y artístico!! Hermosa y única Madonna!!!

    This performance was a clear statement!! In 1990 Milli Vanilli, Paula Abdul were under suspicious of using playback in their "live" performances!! Later it was proved that in the case of Milli Vanilli they hadn´t sung one single note in the recording process of the album, in the case of Abdul, a woman denounced she was the real voice in the pop singer's album, the case was "resolved" out of court... Madonna was clear, she used playback when the choregraphy needed, but she never hid the truth, although some of her "pairs" continued pretending to... In her iconic Blonde Ambition Tour she even joked about, as you can see in the hilarious performance of "Now I'm following you II"!!! Long live the Queen!!

    I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not. Madonna apparently did not want this song to be released as a single at the time. According to her she recorded this song for fun,years earlier. She fought with record executives not too release the song. She felt it wasn't what she envisioned herself as an artist at the time. Kinda like taking a step back. Long story short , Record executives won, saying it would be a #1 hit. And here we are.

    She doesn't even try to look like it's live, this is all about performance and back then, it was quite common to lip-synch. Good to hear you know all the details about vogueing etc. It's important to see this in context, this performance set the standard, she was the first to do something like this. I was in awe and still am.

    Michelle visage is a true pioneer when it comes to ballroom voguing, she was tearing it up on the dance floors way before she ever met RuPaul, even before she got her girl group Seduction, which incidentally had a few massive hits during the '90s that you definitely should react to. I highly recommend that
