It wasn’t that Santana wanted to be an understudy. She auditioned with Don’t Rain on My Parade, the exact way that Rachel performed it at Sectionals in season one, clearly to spite her. BUT Rachel definitely overreacted. Both Rachel and Santana were just as bad as each other in this season.
@@maxstebrew6738 Yeah she did that on purpose cause she wanted to prove to Rachel that she is just as good as her. It was all of Rachel's problem, Santana never wanted to steal her "spotlight" otherwise she would have auditioned for the main role, not the understudy lol
@@jaiden8529 Santana said in a later episode that she would go all "Showgirls" on Rachel and win. In Showgirls, the lead actress pushes the star of the show down a flight of stairs to secure herself as the NEW star of the show. This could have been said just to rattle Rachel but who knows if she ever would have gone through with it if they didn't make up.
With Rachel's talent and confidence in herself (read: ego) she shouldn't have felt threatened by Santana at all. Yes, Rachel has worked her entire life, but Santana being the understudy doesn't matter. There's going to be an understudy either way. Santana shouldn't have to quit the role just because Rachel was throwing a hissy fit.
macherie016 she wasn't threatened, she was pissed bc she worked her whole life for this and Santana auditioned for her understudy just so she would have an opportunity to take it away from her or make it less about Rachel's accomplishment.
Acually she did not she just wanted to try something new and you cant blame santana for wanting a chance at an opportunity which is the whole reason she is in new York and Rachel got what she deserved now she knows how everyone felt back in glee club when she stile the spotlight so this is karma biting her in the ass
crhiannonelizabeth how is auditioning or being an understudy is taking her light? if she wanted the whole damn show for herself then her voice better not be sore when she did 8 gigs in a week. What a joke, all of the insecurities from the high school being brought up until they graduated, GROW UP rachel the world doesn’t revolve around you
Katie Hubbert I always felt Rachel was pissed because while Rachel has worked for this stuff her whole life there were other people like Santana in this case that just came in and got the part based on raw untrained talent and Rachel gets scared and spazzs not a Rachel I think she is a brat actually however this is the only reason I could think of her getting so upset about Santana being g the understudy. Truthfully Santana should’ve just womaned up and said look I chose to audition and use your song because you inspired me but because of how Rachel came in her Santana got defensive and I don’t think that she should apologize for taking away the fun because that was never her intention in the beginning she changed it to that being her intention after the way Rachel reacted
In highschool Santana always made Rachel feel like crap. And Rachel just feels like that same person who tormented her in highschool might just take the part she worked so hard for and dreamed of since she was a little girl. And plus Santana didnt even mention it to her PLUS she auditioned with a song that everyone knew was Rachels go to song. So i dont think it was a case of selfishness but of hurt, fear, and bringing back old bad memories
Santana was being an understudy with bad intentions though. She didn't even want to be in Broadway for all of those shows that she would have to understudy.
River Wing all she did was do it with the intentions to get out there. She saw the opportunity when Racheal brought it up. Racheal should’ve just been supportive and said good for you. It wouldn’t change anything. Racheal would still be lead but instead of all the bs Satana would be able to just chill in the background while Racheal belts her heart out unless she got sick or needed her to fill in for her
Never truly understood why it pissed Rachel so much that Santana was her understudy. I mean, it is necessary and what better person than someone you know is talented and your friend. She was so selfish during this whole thing
Maria Sanchez Carriel Rachel tried to make peace with Her by giving Her 10 Shows and Santana went all "oh i want them all i dont want your scraps" then why doing an audition for a understud if you dont want scraps lol Santana Just did that audition because she was jealous of Rachel Santana was always the biggest bully and worst character on Glee and im glad we barely Saw Her at the end i would rather see closure of other characters (ex Quinn ) than her
Rachel had been dreaming of that show, that role her entire life. And Santana wasn't wrong that all of Rachel's ambition stems from spite that she got from being bullied constantly by Santana and Quinn. Even if they had become friends for a while, those kinds of scars wouldn't disappear. I believe Santana auditioned for the understudy role because she was jealous of Rachel's success and wanted to try to re-establish what she viewed as the natural order of her life, which was usually her on top of everyone else. Rachel saw Santana audition and was immediately thrown back into all those years Santana belittled her, which was sort of what Santana wanted, and so they both ended up back in their high school selves, each trying to prove that they are better than the other- Rachel because it was her only defence against always being put down, and Santana reliving her glory days of being on the Cheerios.
Maria Sanchez Carriel Dude, imagine if you were bullied for 4 years of your life in high school. Imagine you finally get the chance to move away to your dream place to finally land your dream job. Now imagine your high school bully showing up and living in your apartment, and then auditioning for a part that she doesn't even really care about. Like, Sanatana doesn't give two shits about Broadway. I know Rachel is no saint, but Im on her side here. Sanatana has been downright cruel to her in both the past and the present and I would be a mess if the ghost of my past followed me right when I thought I had a chance to leave.
Why? WHY?! Why does everyone have to give way, or bend over just to make peace with RACHEL? It just seems ridiculous that everyone has to bend over backwards just not to upset her. I mean yeah, sure Santana said that she didn't do this for Rachel, but based on patterns indicated by the past, Rachel almost always gets what she wants in the end. Ugh, I CAN'T STAND RACHEL!
Santana literally bullied her all throughout highschool, and never even apologised, do you honestly think that Rachel wouldn’t be pissed that her highschool bully is a possible threat to her own dreams? And Rachel even decided to give her 10 SHOWS!!! she was practically begging Santana…
@@kerseyalejo3718 1 Santana was a bitch to Rachel in high school and the obviously made up or else do u honestly think Rachel would be OK with Santana moving in. 2. Rachel getting mad at Santana for being a "possible threat" is selfish of her. Just because she felt threatened doesn't mean that Santana or anyone else should adjust and give up what would be a golden opportunity just to please Rachel. 3. Rachel was in the wrong in this whole situation, she shouldn't have been mad at Santana for being a literal understudy, forced Kurt to choose sides then basically forced Santana to move out.
@@masonsantos5552 well it was her childhood dream soo I couldn’t blame her, c’mon ppl it’s like y’all never been selfish in ur life. I do agree that Rachel was overreacting, and I would totally be on Santana’s side if she actually told Rachel that she was audition, then maybe there was a possibility that Rachel would’ve sabotaged her, but she didn’t tell Rachel soo it never happened, and that’s just how the bs goes lol I love Pezberry but they make me soo mad lmao
I think many people don't realize what it feels like being bullied and constantly put down by sombody. Like, yeah, Rachel was a pain in the ass sometimes, quite often actually, but can we please not forget the stuff she went through in hich school, by Santana's hands mostly? That kind of an experience can give you such lasting self esteem issues and insecurities, especially when next to the person who used to bully you and made you feel like you would never be as good as them. I can totally understand Rachels feelings here. Santana isn't just her friend, she is also someone who inflicted a lot of pain on her in the past. To not want somebody like that going near your biggest dream out of the fear that a) they might destroy it or b) take it away from you is a very natural response because you've only ever experienced them destroying or taking the things that are important to you. And because you've learned that they are so much better and powerful than you ever will be, you feel threatened. Those insecurities and fears don't just go away when high school is over. Yes, Rachel was a pain, but Santana was cruel and a bully. And while they made up, it is natural that their past together will always affect Rachel and that it is always going to give her insecurities. So pretending like this is all just another Rachel Berry ego trip seems unfair. Maybe Santana never wanted to take the show from Rachel, but I think it's not too surprising that she would fear it. And that Santana went behind her back and completely copied her in her audition wasn't a great move either, especially because this was Rachels big dream. Imagine if Rachel had gone after an album deal Mercedes got. People would have condemned het just like that. But they keep on making excuses for Santana because they dislike Rachel, which isn't fair. I love Santana, but this here was just really shitty of her, especially because it wasn't really that important to her. She never loved broadway, but to get in the game and later to prove a point she almost destroyed Rachel's biggest dream.
Anyone who has ever been bullied or belittled could easily understand why having Santana as an understudy would be unsettling. Rachel was mocked and tortured throughout high school for her ambitions. She was told that she should be sterilized and that her fathers should sell her back, and many other very cruel things. Rachel dealt with all that mental and emotional abuse by channeling it into her art. She told herself once she became someone and proved them all wrong, their hateful words would no longer hold any power over her. And then Santana (one of her biggest tormentors) shows up, takes over, and auditions for a role she doesn’t care about, in a forum she had no previous interest in, and becomes her understudy. I’m not saying she reacted appropriately but her reaction was understandable. No one dreams of spending the rest of their life losing to the people who made them feel like nothing.
TheCjma88 and I feel like you forget how Santana made Rachel feel Rachel did to other people she treated most people like her understudy all of the glee club she took all the parts even when others where more deserving they catered to what mad her sound good.. she blew her niada audition so just took over nationals lol that was many people’s last time going to preforming as that group she cried and pouted when she didn’t get her way and she was intimidated of others talent
I'm not saying Rachel was right, even Rachel said she was wrong, but given her history with Santana and also seeing Santana and Quinn's friendship which was a slew of petty competitions, it's not a wonder Rachel wasn't happy that Santana came for a part that Rachel had dreamed of her whole life. Santana didn't want to be on Broadway so her auditioning didn't make any sense from that perspective. So it was natural for Rachel to revert to her more insecure high school self that was expecting Santana to do whatever she could to oust Rachel from the role.
okay this whole storyline was just.. horrible. they were both wrong. santana should have talked to rachel (cause we can clearly see she still cares about her feelings, even though she would never admit it) and shouldn’t have said all those awful things to her. but rachel reacted inappropriately, and should be happy about her friends. although i can understand her feeling threatened because of their past. the only people we should blame here are the WRITERs ugh! every gleek was really enjoying the pezberry relationship improvement..

Despite Rachel’s character throughout the show... she did nothing wrong in this situation. Even with her annoying personality, she has worked her entire life and practiced for years to get her dream of being on Broadway and here comes a former bully who gets the UNDERSTUDY without even caring about the significance. Are you all forgetting that Rachel literally criticized herself and decided she was in the wrong and wanted to give Santana 10 whole shows? And what did Santana do? In this scene, Rachel is in the auditorium, rehearsing her lines for 'Funny Girl' Santana comes in and says, "well, you certainly are dedicated." "Well," Rachel says, "under normal circumstances, I would be, but, considering the fact that I have to worry about you pushing me off the stage at any moment, I can't slip, even for a second." "Well, I don't like that." Santana says as she walks towards the piano and looks at the book. "You have been dreaming about this role since you were in gay utero, and you have actually worked your tiny little butt off to get it, and I'm coming in second all to celebrate just the thought of it." Rachel walks to her and asks, "why? Honestly, what have I ever done to you?" "Nothing." Santana replies. "I'm just not a particularly nice person, and sometimes I make choices that seem like the right thing at the time, but, then......looking back, they're actually kind of mean. Listen, I don't want to be a Broadway star. I'm too lazy to give 8 shows a week." "Wait." Rachel says as she looks surprisingly at Santana. "So, does that mean you're quitting the show?" Santana responds, "I texted gay face director 10 minutes ago and said, 'I hereby resign as U.S. (understudy)of this production of F.G (FunnyGirl)'." "Really." Rachel says quietly. "Listen," Santana tells her, "don't get all sentimental on me or anything like that. I'm really happy for you, but i didn't do this for you. I did this entirely for myself." Rachel nods and tells, "well, that was very brave of you. Do you think that maybe, we could at least sing a song together in glee club?" "Fine," Santana replies, "but I'm not gonna sing some tired, old song we've already done. 'Cause Santana Lopez is way too badass for that." Then they smile at each other and after they make up, Oh Honey's 'Be Okay' begins.
As much as I love Rachel it was sad to see how unhappy she was and unsupportive of Santana. I mean they are friends and it's not like Santana would do something to hurt her just for the role.
santana literally said she wanted to take the role from rachel and wouldnt accept being given 10 shows even when rachel admitted she was wrong and generously offered them, which no actor would ever do

I love Rachel but the fact that she felt threatened by Santana's just from bring her understudy shows how selfconscious she becomes when santana is in the picture. This was probably one Rachel's most selfish moments
Yeah. It wasn’t totally selfish of Santana, one of Rachel’s biggest bullies in high school who constantly belittled her and mocked her, to show up and basically take the role of the person who literally gets the spotlight if the lead fails. @@Ously6 Bullshit. There would have always been an understudy as you can't sing every single time for hours. Rachel was just selfish and childish. Yall are great friends? Then try to be happy for these big achievements and if something annoys you, TALK. Clarify shit. @@Hastdupech8509 In real life, you don't admit over the same roof, living with your ex bully, just like that, Rachel and Kurt have been generous enough to let Santana live with them.
This whole she is just an understudy is really quite annoying. I think why Rachel was scared was that she could get replaced she knew Santana is a good singer and a better dancer than her. Brodway was the thing she lived for, and Santana was her bully. She had everything that Rachel didnt have so Rachel tried to focus on her talent. Back in previous seasons Rachel often felt bad for her appearance, she once even said to Finn that she hasn't got a body like Santana and Brittany. Or should I really mention the Nose Job which Santana practically triggered with her comments during the whole bullying like when she said she doen't look in Rachels eyes or somthing I think that was in Born This Way. How would you feel if someone practically gets everything who was bullied and made you feel bad and then tries to even take away the one thing you worked your ass off? Santana admitted that she didnt care about the role she only wants fame and that it dont matter how she gets it. She could easily get it somewhere else. She can sing she can dance and looks pretty. Rachel can be super selfish but still I understand her reaction pretty well.
Ugh, most of the comments in this section make me sick. Just because people don't understand and they just want to hate on Rachel. First off, Rachel wasn't selfish, she was hurt, extremely hurt by the fact that her former tormentor turned friend would suddenly out of nowhere, audition for the role she spent days and nights, dreaming, wishing and working hard for and to be her understudy, without telling her, made her feel like she as getting backstabbed. I can also understand on Santana's part, she lost her place in life, she was living in New York and she had no passion, no direction, no nothing. But her wanting to steal Rachel's spotlight, so she can be something wasn't right either. She even admitted to wanting to steal the role from Rachel and she didn't really care for her role or broadway in general. She wasn't being nice, taking Rachel's feelings into consideration. Yes, Santana is talented, but she didn't need to take somebodies elses thing to feel some self worth. A lot of stuff in Santana's life fell flat. She dropped out of college and I thought with Lights Out, she would have followed a career of dancing, like Brittney, be a back up dancer or an dance instructor. I think with Santana, things in later seasons, Season 5 especially, could have been written better for her. But she got her happy ending and that's what I'm thankful for at least~
Zelia We are not hating on Rachel. It's not our fault she's a fake, self-absorbing, self-centered, selfish girl who doesn't like it when things don't go her way. Santana auditioned for UNDERSTUDY. Look it up if you don't know what it means. She wasn't trying to steal anything from her. In fact, she's the one that stole from the Glee club. All of them were equally talented, yet Rachel had more solos and it wouldn't surprise me that they were pissed. Santana just wanted to do something with her life, and to be honest, I feel she's just saying all this to make Rachel feel better, which pisses me off because it's another one of those "oh Rachel's upset, the world is going to die" moments, in my opinion.
@@caitlin5355 I don't remember that. If she really was, wouldn't she have auditioned for the actual role or whatever. its not about sabotage its about the fact that rachel worked her entire life to be on broadway and the girl who bullied her for 4 years in highschool comes in and is a part of her fantasy that she worked for. Even if theyre friends now, the past doesnt just disappear. Thomas Evans But Santana never went up against Rachel for the role she only audition for the understudy that was the whole point of her auditioning to be the understudy
As Told By GiGi Did you not watch the damn show? Rachel tried to be the bigger person and offer a ten-show compromise, and Santana blatantly said she wanted the entire part from it.
Priya are you dumb? an understudy can’t have the whole damn show if the leading actress always shows up to her performance. If rachel wanted the whole show so bad then she should do 8 gigs in a week for 6 months straight if she wanted to ruin her vocal chords.
I don't understand why Glee thought Rachel was the good guy in this one. She was being such a brat over an understudy part, and she ripped up a picture over it willing to break up a friendship. She really needed to apologize to her.
Santana ruined Rachel best moment with Finn, refused her offer of peace , humiliate her in front of the glee club, tell her " i am better than you " , call her short and awful, auditionned to be her understandy behind her back, make everything about her , say the bullying Rachel been trought served her , act bitchy ect ect , she was the one Who need to apologized
Paraphrasing Santana, "I've been a cruel bitch to you; and I want to apologize." oddly enough, there're hints to them that would refer to a bond that develops in the course of their lives; almost a kind of adoptive stepsiblings based on their belief systems.
I'm going to be very honest about what I think, I'm seeing comments from people saying that Rachel is selfish and that Santana shouldn't have quit, but, for anyone who has watched the series knows that Santana is a HORRIBLE person!!! Especially to Rachel, she made Rachel's life in high school a terror, she was always making fun of her for her looks (for being small, having a big nose and dressing differently), she humiliated her, she ruined her moment with Finn by saying that he had lost his virginity to her just because she enjoyed watching Rachel suffer, and people instead of saying all these things are wrong, don't! They clap Santana on the back and make Rach look like a monster, the truth is that Rachel may be selfish, self-centered and annoying, but so is Santana! She has ALWAYS been a bitch to everyone, and it was no different here! From the moment we meet Rachel's character she only talks about three things: Broadway, Barbra Streisand, and Funny Girl! We all know that she has dreamed about this her whole life! Already she was singing "Don't rain on my parade" and Santana couldn't even pronounce Streisand yet! It was pretty selfish what Santana did, she knew how much love Rach felt for this role, how important it was and she didn't care! Oh, and by the way, Santana didn't do this because she loved Broadway, she herself admitted that she never cared about it she just did it to piss Rachel off! And no, Santana did NOT want to be just an understudy, she wanted to keep the role! She said herself that she would do whatever she could to steal the part from Rachel! Does this seem like a nice thing to do? A decent thing? I'm not saying Rachel is a saint, because she definitely isn't, but she didn't deserve what Santana did to her, she made Rach's life a living hell, always trying to make her feel inferior, calling her names, now she ruins the biggest moment of her life like it's nothing, if it were you? How would you feel, if the person who bullied you all your life, now shows up, moves into your apartment, takes the biggest moment of your career and completely ruins your life?! Would you react well? Would you go over and deliver a bouquet of flowers with a "Congratulations on getting the job"? Or would you be upset with him for lying to you and sticking a dagger in your back?! And as much as you say no and say you would have been happy for him, you and I both know that's not true, because if it really happened to you it would be very different, because it's very easy to talk about others, but when it's us... By the way, Santana in high school used to make fun of Rachel for being obsessed with Barbra!!!!
Rachel thinks she's so much better the everyone else and yes she can sing but no better than the rest of the club so why does she always need to whine. She always says about how people are jealous that she's better than then when in reality she isn't.
her reaction to santana being her understudy doesnt have to do with whether or not she thinks shes better it singing. its the fact that someone who doesnt care about broadway which is rachels dream and treated her like garbage for 4 years, is now trying to steal something that shes worked her entire life for. She shouldve reacted better initially but santana wasnt perfect either.
no sis the tea is that in the end rachel begged santana to be her understudy because of her unprofessionalism for abandoning her show. She should’ve apologized to santana for the way she acted
It´s very annoying how they wrapped up this whole storyline. Like Santana had to apologize and abandon a job opportunity so Rachel could feel happy no one in Glee club achieves anything better than she does. They weren´t even friends. If it was Mercedes it woul´ve made more sense that she prefered the friendship over the job but Rachel? F..... her.
Santana destroy finchel most beautiful moment by telling Rachel about the prom, called Rachel short and awful, say she is better than her , refused the offer of peace of Rachel, overall act bitchy, say the bullying Rachel been trought served her , make everything about her , auditionned to be Rachel understandy behind her back , humiliate her in front of EVERYONE and made her cry , is happy about it. Santana should apologized and thats the tea
Not a big fan of Rachel, but we all know Santana auditioned to be her understudy because she knew exactly how it would make her feel. She could've auditioned anywhere, but she chose that. How Rachel felt was fair, but how crazily reacted wasn't. So they were both wrong in this and for this to be done by Santana just put an end to their fight and there's nothing wrong with wanting to preserve a relationship that means something to you
This is so silly lol neither of these people would ever be employed again like.... how flakey can you be? santana quits because she needs to appease her narcissistic former classmate and rachel quits because somebody sends her a pdf of a script and she's just like let me quit this high earning broadway role to do something random
I HATE the way this situation was flipped to make Santana seem like the bad guy... she was talented af and had every right to play that part and receive basic respect.. Rachel was so out of line.
This was some BS , the only reason Santana auditioned is because it was the only audition she was aware of , she’s not in nyada , she’s not really in the “theatre world “ how else was she supposed to know what auditions they were taking , she heard an opportunity and took it for herself not to betray Rachel
Didn't Rachel quit the funny girl later?? After all these understudy drama.. imagine if she relented a bit, maybe Santana could've taken her place when she quitted, but no, her selfishness ruined everyone 😌😌
Literally though Santana was in the wrong and needed to make things right again. She’s not fit for broadway, she could never be as good of a Fanny Brice as Rachel, let’s be honest. She’s more Amy Winehouse. This is a time when Santana is 100% spitting facts. She is not in the league of Rachel AND does mean shit for no reason🤷🏻♀️ glad she came to her senses
Jajaja so let me get this straight, Santana literally just told Rachel she did what she did because (her words) she is not exactly a nice person and also she was not that interested in the first place despite Rachel not doing anything to her and people still blame it on Rachel? God, you Santana fans are very creative creating excuses for her bitchy and not really neccesary ways. Not a fan of any of them, but I am totally on Rachel's side this time.
I don't know why Santana did this. It seems like an excuse to me. Because if Rachel wouldn't reacted like she did (Like come on, you have to admit that Rachel was so immature and stupid) Santana would be a normal understudy. But no, Rachel made it a competition and said that she did it cause Santana was jealous. By the awful reaction it's quite understandable Santana's behavior. But i just think Ryan Murphy just wanted to degrade Santana's character because he was a sucker for Lea and Rachel
@@Daniel-po6li Dude, Santana admitted she sometimes do things her way thinking it's the right choice but she ends up just being mean... she said that, not me nor Rachel, now you're crossing the screen going about how the creator of the series just wanted to give her a bad image? Justification much? We could say the same of every little flaw for everyone else... don't get me wrong, I like Santana more than Rachel, but I can see where Rachel's coming from overreacting, Santana was mean to her all her highschool and sometimes plain cruel dude, she even accepted in later episodes that Rachel was right thinking of her that way that she was willing to change.
Ok I'm somewhat new having only finished the show a few weeks ago but I feel like I gotta say this. They are both in the wrong in one way or another. Let's start with Rachel first, 1) she didn't work her ass off on anything now I don't know a lot about musical theater but I know this, you need more experience in order to get a part in a musical let alone the lead role Rachel just went to NYADA for a week and she already got the part the thing about any audition is experience Rachel had none, sure she's got the voice and some talent but like woopie Goldberg's character (forgot the character's name) she has drive what she lacks is foundation meaning she has motivation but not that much experience. 2) is she egotistical? As much as I've seen and remember yes in a way. Since we're using what happened in the past Rachel sent sunshine to a crackhouse, she was very clingy to finn, and she kept whining about not getting a lead role in everything but ended up getting it anyway so that she didn't throw a tantrum. Now let's move on to santana, 1) was she a bully? Yes especially to Rachel (which is why I like brittany more) santana clearly stated that after she talked to Brittany that she realized she didn't want the part. 2) was it right for her to go from being the understudy to ranting at Rachel and claiming that she wanted all the parts even though she didn't care for it anyway? No they both acted like children. The reason why she didn't tell Rachel until after she auditioned is because santana didn't want to get into and argument/get ranted at by Rachel ffs Rachel didn't even want an understudy claiming she didn't get sick when to my limited knowledge about understudys they're also there just in case the star gets hurt or has a family emergency and can't audition. I'm not trying to pick sides here nor am I claiming to know everything but will both sides of this childish argument realize that they're both in the wrong?
B.M Undercover That doesn’t mean she should be fired. I’m sure if Santana told her to begin with she was auditioning, Rachel would’ve been fine. But Santana lied and that puts a stigma in Rachel’s head that Santana did it for a reason to ruin Rachel’s career. Being paranoid isn’t a crime.
B.M Undercover That’s a little childish of you. She never assaulted Santana physically other than that slap, but Santana has done far worse things to her. Let’s forget about Rachel and speak of Santana’s faults if we’re going to pin every bad thing Rachel’s done on our back. If we played our cards like that, Santana would be the top one, followed close by Quinn, to do the absolute worst things to other characters.
who cares if you don't dream of being a broadway star?!?! That was a good well paying gig on and a chance to be seen by agents and managers on stage. How stupid of Rachel. How was Santana ruining her dreams? Why does everyone have to be a loser for her to be a winner. I don't care if she was going to give her some shows. The amount of relief Rachel had after hearing that her friend quit was ridiculous.
They really tried to make us think that Santana was wrong for wanting to be an understudy and that Rachel's reaction was justified.
The show makes everything reachel is justified
Exactly!!
I love how those two make up
The thumbnail tho
With Rachel's talent and confidence in herself (read: ego) she shouldn't have felt threatened by Santana at all. Yes, Rachel has worked her entire life, but Santana being the understudy doesn't matter. There's going to be an understudy either way. Santana shouldn't have to quit the role just because Rachel was throwing a hissy fit.
macherie016 she wasn't threatened, she was pissed bc she worked her whole life for this and Santana auditioned for her understudy just so she would have an opportunity to take it away from her or make it less about Rachel's accomplishment.
macherie016 Santana bullied her for years?
macherie 016 I agree with you
Acually she did not she just wanted to try something new and you cant blame santana for wanting a chance at an opportunity which is the whole reason she is in new York and Rachel got what she deserved now she knows how everyone felt back in glee club when she stile the spotlight so this is karma biting her in the ass
crhiannonelizabeth how is auditioning or being an understudy is taking her light? if she wanted the whole damn show for herself then her voice better not be sore when she did 8 gigs in a week. What a joke, all of the insecurities from the high school being brought up until they graduated, GROW UP rachel the world doesn’t revolve around you
Either way, there'd still be an understudy. You'd think Rachel would be happy for her friend😑
So i dont think it was a case of selfishness but of hurt, fear, and bringing back old bad memories
she also offered her ten shows but santana only wanted them all
Santana was being an understudy with bad intentions though.
Ikr
Maria Sanchez Carriel Dude, imagine if you were bullied for 4 years of your life in high school. Imagine you finally get the chance to move away to your dream place to finally land your dream job. Now imagine your high school bully showing up and living in your apartment, and then auditioning for a part that she doesn't even really care about. Like, Sanatana doesn't give two shits about Broadway. I know Rachel is no saint, but Im on her side here. Sanatana has been downright cruel to her in both the past and the present and I would be a mess if the ghost of my past followed me right when I thought I had a chance to leave.
chelbanna wow that was so perfectly summarized
Why?
I agree. I hate Reachel with a passion. I've been in situations where coaches had told me to bend over back for another person it sucks
Lea was Ryan Murphy’s golden girl after all.
TheCjma88 exactly
You know? I’ve tried for years to put into words my feelings of this storyline and I think you did it perfectly.
It’s called jealousy!!
THANK YOU!!!!!
That's why I love Santana
Santana is an adult, she didn't need to talk to her about it
Mourning Dove honesty I agree.... I just think this could be avoided you know? But she shouldn’t stop herself from doing something she would like just because of Rachel

She was not taking anything from rachel, who is a very selfish person.
And now their trying to look Rachel like a victim.
She was talking that role for shit on Rachel wtf ? Its normal if she leave , once she see the amount of work she had to do !
Rachel may be sometimes selfish but Santana is an even more selish person and one ep before Rachel offer ten show to Santana Who refused it , bc she want all , is Rachel really selfish imao?
And Rachel IS THE WHOLE DAMN VICTIM. Despite Rachel’s character throughout the show... she did nothing wrong in this situation. Even with her annoying personality, she has worked her entire life and practiced for years to get her dream of being on Broadway and here comes a former bully who gets the UNDERSTUDY without even caring about the significance. Don’t get me wrong I love both Rachel and Santana but Santana had no right to demand ALL her shows and act the way she did.

Are you all forgetting that Rachel literally criticized herself and decided she was in the wrong and wanted to give Santana 10 whole shows? And what did Santana do? She refused and said she wanted ALL the shows. I’m not saying Rachel isn’t selfish, but stop with the double standards. They were BOTH in the wrong.

I’m just saying. By the time racheal offered her “10 shows” the damage was already done and Santana wanted to be petty. Plus the way broadway works is the understudy get the lead when the lead needs to rest their voice or is sick so they usual play lead at matinee performances. Not trying to be rude or mean just putting out an observation :)

Rachel here is just a spoiled little girl who wants all the attention and spotlights.
In this scene, Rachel is in the auditorium, rehearsing her lines for 'Funny Girl'
Santana comes in and says, "well, you certainly are dedicated."
"Well," Rachel says, "under normal circumstances, I would be, but, considering the fact that I have to worry about you pushing me off the stage at any moment, I can't slip, even for a second."
"Well, I don't like that." Santana says as she walks towards the piano and looks at the book.
"You have been dreaming about this role since you were in gay utero, and you have actually worked your tiny little butt off to get it, and I'm coming in second all to celebrate just the thought of it."
Rachel walks to her and asks, "why? Honestly, what have I ever done to you?"
"Nothing." Santana replies. "I'm just not a particularly nice person, and sometimes I make choices that seem like the right thing at the time, but, then......looking back, they're actually kind of mean.
Listen, I don't want to be a Broadway star. I'm too lazy to give 8 shows a week."
"Wait." Rachel says as she looks surprisingly at Santana. "So, does that mean you're quitting the show?"
Santana responds, "I texted gay face director 10 minutes ago and said, 'I hereby resign as U.S. (understudy)of this production of F.G (FunnyGirl)'."
"Really." Rachel says quietly.
"Listen," Santana tells her, "don't get all sentimental on me or anything like that.
I'm really happy for you, but i didn't do this for you. I did this entirely for myself."
Rachel nods and tells, "well, that was very brave of you.
Do you think that maybe, we could at least sing a song together in glee club?"
"Fine," Santana replies, "but I'm not gonna sing some tired, old song we've already done.
'Cause Santana Lopez is way too badass for that."
Then they smile at each other and after they make up, Oh Honey's 'Be Okay' begins.
I love them so much
When I first saw this scene I was like: "FINALLY SHE SAID SHE WAS SORRY. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE HER?! FIVE SEASONS?!" And I still think that

I would’ve reacted the same way as Rachel did especially if I busted my ass like she did. Glad she saw the error in her ways and salvaged her friendship with Rachel

I don't care about the girls' petty drama, what this has caused is the poor director now has to waste a shitton of money that's probably NOT in their budget to recast an understudy should Rachel get sick or something. Hell, that's probably the ENTIRE reason the show DIDN'T have anyone to replace Rachel with because they didn't have the time or the budget to do a recast because of this bullshit.

How would you feel if your childhood/high school bully showed up and tried to belittle your accomplishments because they didn’t like your success? Rachel May have overreacted but don’t make Santana a blameless Saint
@@Ously6 Bullshit. There would have always been an understudy as you can't sing every single time for hours.

Rachel was just selfish and childish. Yall are great friends? Then try to be happy for these big achievements and if something annoys you, TALK. Clarify shit. That's called being an adult and resurrecting a rivalry from high school, from before you made up and the kinda friends period, is not.

@@carlosespca She didn't want it, that's my point.
Santana just wanted to do something with her life, and to be honest, I feel she's just saying all this to make Rachel feel better, which pisses me off because it's another one of those "oh Rachel's upset, the world is going to die" moments, in my opinion.
fanatsywriter 12345 Santana admitted she wanted to take the role from Rachel.
@@caitlin5355 I don't remember that. If she really was, wouldn't she have auditioned for the actual role or whatever. And if she did say that, it was probably when she was angry with Rachel for being her annoying self and not being happy that Santana is trying to do something for her life. And it kills me how people just suck up to her at the end of each conflict they have with Rachel
@@lonnisplace1459 th-cam.com/video/Xbx9uuRowoI/w-d-xo.html
That's the link, that's the scene. She wanted to take Rachel's role in the show. Rachel did over react to her getting the part - but Santana admits she did it out of spite and auditioned for understudy to take it from Rachel. I think people seem to forget before they were friends that Santana horribly bullied Rachel and many other students, stuff like that leaves a lasting impression. Zelia was right, a lot fell flat in Santana's life and many people including Santana made Rachel's life hell because of who she is and her dreams.
fanatsywriter 12345 Yeah. It wasn’t totally selfish of Santana, one of Rachel’s biggest bullies in high school who constantly belittled her and mocked her, to show up and basically take the role of the person who literally gets the spotlight if the lead fails.
How would you feel if your childhood/high school bully showed up and tried to belittle your accomplishments because they didn’t like your success? Rachel May have overreacted but don’t make Santana a blameless Saint
Gosh! I love Santana this shows that how a good friend she Is!!!!!! I'm so glad that She realized AND she made the right choice by quitting funny girl" pezberry goals!!!!
If you Don't see it, is your problem but Rachel and Santana were born to be friends! This is why i love them so much! Periodt.
If they were true friends Rachael would have known since the beginning that Santana would never do anything to sabotage Rachael whilst she was on stage and she would have known that Santana wasn’t going for the understudy job to ruin Rachael’s big moment
its not about sabotage its about the fact that rachel worked her entire life to be on broadway and the girl who bullied her for 4 years in highschool comes in and is a part of her fantasy that she worked for. Even if theyre friends now, the past doesnt just disappear. Rachel definitely shouldve been more rational in her reaction but santana didnt even care about broadway and just swoops in, how would you feel if you had to share your dream with someone who doesnt even care about it and treated you like dirt for so long? rachel even admitted she was wrong gave santana 10 shows which no actor would ever ever do, and santana openly admitted she wanted them all and that she wanted the whole role
@@Hi-vr3kd she only did that when RACHEL MADE IT A BIG DEAL. Rachel trying to give Santana 10 shows was petty. At the point, u shouldve given her an honest apology. Santana automatically for the understudy for WORK PURPOSES. She did it to get her foot out there so she could be famous. Last time i checked, Kurt worked to be class president. Rachel literally betrayed him by signing up, just bc she thought Mercedes would get maria. Santana is the victim here
@@deklin.14.official39 Santana is definitely not a victim neither of them are but if we’re talking ab victims Rachel was the main one. Rachel wanted to stop fighting and give her 10 shows so that they can be friends again and Santana said she wanted the whole thing.
@@barbiexan4378 oh yes they both were awful through this entire plot. But if anyone is thd victim here, imo its Santana. I understand that rachel wanted to end it. But giving her 10 shows soured it for me. Like this was the onlu point where i couldve possibly defended Rachel. Its just that i wouldnt have added in the 10 shows part. Like it felt like an, "in case these sweet words dont work, I'll throw in 10 shows". Like its just felt weird to me. But my main thing is that we didnt have to get to this point. I get that Santana didnt tell her. But if you're too full of yourself too look past that and congratulate the fact that she, your very talented friend, will fill in for u if u ever get sick, then there's something wrong with u. In short, Rachel shouldve looked past Santana not telling her and be glad that someone as talented as her will be her understudy
@@barbiexan4378 i meant that Santana was the victim for the most part of this feud plot
This is one of the main reasons I don’t like Rachel. She only feels threatened by other people’s talent instead of appreciating it
Santana showed us to be 1000 times better than Rachel in this scene. Rachel would have never done something like that if they were in the opposite situation
Funny how Rachel did " something like that " one ep before🤭
Let’s all just be honest......Santana never would’ve beaten rachel out of this role
Santana could’ve won
Finally! Their tension is over!
Can you post the scene where mercedes shows up late to booty camp in season 3. And she says she overslept but it's 4:30 please?!?!
Ben Hahessy that are so much information😂
can you please post rachel singing "the climb"?

Why did Rachel’s dream come true my dreams never do.
My favourite character Rachel amazing voice 🤣💓
everyone is ignoring the fact that Rachel offered Santana TEN FREACKING SHOWS and Santana refused because she wanted them all? thats the tea sis
no sis the tea is that in the end rachel begged santana to be her understudy because of her unprofessionalism for abandoning her show. She should’ve apologized to santana for the way she acted
@@revinofauzan59 it was an offer of peace calm down
they both were wrong, but this scene pissed me off. i’m just tired of rachel always getting her way.
@@laurine____7543 WAS SHE EVER LYING? Answer: NO!
@@Caprizonica man you're worse bully than those who slushied the kids at McKinley hell even pre coming out Santana
Not a big fan of Rachel, but we all know Santana auditioned to be her understudy because she knew exactly how it would make her feel. She could've auditioned anywhere, but she chose that. How Rachel felt was fair, but how crazily reacted wasn't. So they were both wrong in this and for this to be done by Santana just put an end to their fight and there's nothing wrong with wanting to preserve a relationship that means something to you
Lea Michele She’s Crazy
This is so silly lol neither of these people would ever be employed again like.... how flakey can you be? santana quits because she needs to appease her narcissistic former classmate and rachel quits because somebody sends her a pdf of a script and she's just like let me quit this high earning broadway role to do something random
Rachel is so annoying and I hate the writers
I HATE the way this situation was flipped to make Santana seem like the bad guy... she was talented af and had every right to play that part and receive basic respect.. Rachel was so out of line.
obviously, Santana/Naya was the real threat to the Rachel/Lea's spotlight
This was some BS , the only reason Santana auditioned is because it was the only audition she was aware of , she’s not in nyada , she’s not really in the “theatre world “ how else was she supposed to know what auditions they were taking , she heard an opportunity and took it for herself not to betray Rachel
FINALLY !!!!!
Rachel didn't wear a skirt.
Didn't Rachel quit the funny girl later?? After all these understudy drama.. imagine if she relented a bit, maybe Santana could've taken her place when she quitted, but no, her selfishness ruined everyone 😌😌
Santana gets no praise here because just a few episodes after this she practically demands all of the shows from Rachel so no she’s not praiseworthy.
i wouldnt apologise to rachel bc shes really selfish and self centered and thinks the world revolves around her.
Why does Rachel keep getting what she wants?
Literally though Santana was in the wrong and needed to make things right again. She’s not fit for broadway, she could never be as good of a Fanny Brice as Rachel, let’s be honest. She’s more Amy Winehouse. This is a time when Santana is 100% spitting facts. She is not in the league of Rachel AND does mean shit for no reason🤷🏻♀️ glad she came to her senses
She was going to be an UNDERSTUDY🤦🏾♀️
She could´t be Fanny Bryce, that´s right, because Fanny was ugly, but Santana sang about 2/3 songs from Brbara Streisand and did excellent.
Bullshit
There’s no problem with the fact that Santana auditioned for the understudy position. She really should’ve just spoken to Rachel about it first.
Rachel deserves to be fired from Broadway
B.M Undercover Why????? Cause her understudy realised she was being mean and knew how much Rachel wanted the part? Give me a break. 🙄
Jazz Sky: Because did you see how selfish and bitchy Rachel was being to Santana for landing the role of the UNDERSTUDY. It was completely immature
Wᴀʟᴋɪɴɢ Dᴇᴀᴅ santana had that slap comming her way since season 1
I'm not proud of Santana at all. She never should have been Rachel's understudy at all.
Hailey Hoopes Santana is talented like Rachel
Well I am proud of santana for making peace with rachel she decided to be the bigger person in the situation
who cares if you don't dream of being a broadway star?!?!
