Facom Hammer: amzn.to/3UMwdOy
Halder Baseplex: amzn.to/49l7Sn4
Halder Simplex 40: amzn.to/49HqRrM
In Europe Facom was a top name in tools.
Unfortunately I have a self imposed rule not to buy anything from the Stanley B&D Stable. I have been disappointed too many times in recent years.
The German Halder are top notch tools as with most German tools.
Someone below mentioned Thor Hammers out of England. They are some of the best you can buy. A family owned company still making things properly.
So would that mean you're not buying anything from Facom anymore?
@@alinutzalin6346 Sadly, yes, Facom have produced some fantastic tools in the past but I just don't trust SB&D to maintain that standard.
I have a couple of the Halder hammers from KC Tool
I have the Garland with rawhide inserts. It's a very similar design, they do have a couple of rubber inserts but not near as many options as those. Thanks Doc
I recommend Thor hammers, made in the UK. Nylon heads, raw hide heads, copper etc. I know of these from working in a machine shop, used to square up brass in lathe chucks. Very good. Another UK brand is Maun Industries for very high leverage wire cutters.
I also like my Garland’s all-rawhide mallets made in Saco, Maine
Glad you're now in the know. Again, if you hold the product still for a few more seconds, it help us see it. Moving it all around is not helpful.
I visited few shops in Europe that have these exact Facom hammers and the quality of the grinding of the striking surfaces is terrible. Of the 20+ hammer I checked none had the striking surface perpendicular to the sides. Oddly enough cheaper Stanley hammers had a much better quality of grinds and I ended up buying a Stanley...
I have a smaller Halder mallet just like the duplex, and have found it very useful in bench work. I’ve had it for quite a few years, so I don’t know if it’s still available.
did you ever try the anti vibe hammers?
That larger Halder is nice!
I believe I just saw that at Menards for$70
Two years ago off of KCTool I got a bundle on sale after Christmas that had a larger Simplex Mallet with the same faces and then a Halder deadblow for $30. They have been some of my favorite mallets to use especially as they are quite light for the amount of force you can enact. The soft face is great for wood and plastics that need some convincing.
Thor Hammer (Shirley, Birmingham, England) for me. Copper-faced and leather faced do what plastic can't.
Those are nice! couldn't resist the small one on amazon ...
Best I've found, they just work and last
I have a similar hammer from Wiha, with different hardened exchangeable striking sides. Looks similar to the bigger one. Good quality and more useful than anticipated.
I recommend stripping the finish off the halder and oiling the wood. Much better feel and a lot less slippery. I use the simplex 40 with the red and black inserts every day for my work, and it is a joy to use.
Please try the Facom 500A series locking pliers. I have then and along with Malco Eaglegrip's they are the best locking pliers ever made, in my opinion. You won't regret.
Another awesome Facom tools are the R.360 and R.181 1/4" ratchets.
The R1 Pico, they are similar to the VIM RFB400K, but Facom actually invented that tool first.
Another tool is the ATCL.3 Ratcheting Screwdriver. And the electric screwdriver E-ProTwist.
Also the Facom JXL.171 telescopic 3/8 ratchet.
And the Facom 872272 is a must have from the brand. And if you are crazy enough, the Facom 985762, although it's an industrial tool.
Another French brand that made high quality tools is Virax, they are specialized in plumbing tools like Ridgid, Reed and Rothenberger.
Hay doc! I when are you going to try the wera collasal hammer, lots of tricks up it's sleeve
I have those halders but that facom looks nice for metal work
I have a simplex 30 in a shopping cart at the moment. I'd love to see a brass cap also then I could avoid also getting a brass hammer.
What on earth is that Milwaukee in the background???
I have the Simplex, and it is quite awesome
That Halder mallet looks very similar to the wiha ones I got.
Great video, halder head rather looks like cast iron, 500-14 or smth.
Jus call me hammer head……
🇬🇧 Hi Doc, did you manage to pick up a Footprint wrench whilst you were over here?
sandy munro calls bolts threaded un-fasteners. i think that's quite clever (disclaimer: i'm not a fan of everyhing that guy does and don't trust him)
I have a couple of those Facom graphite shaft hammers - really lovely tools. Did you ever get a Thor soft hammer? I remember suggesting that when you were visiting Scotland.
simplex mallet was a great decision I made long before I saw anyone using one. Got a couple different inserts and love using it. I find I pick it up several times a day.
I really like my Halder Mallets.👍👍
That’s a sweet hammer!! I need one!!
Have you ever looked into the Wilde tool brand?
Pull my Scraper: Wilde Tools Curved Gasket Scraper. USA-made solid tool except for the handle grip.
