I can't stop watching this video. It seems like a lifetime ago. I was 21 at the time, working in media and managed to get VIP tickets. A huge group of us travelled down from Leeds. 25,000 people out in the open stadium on millennium eve singing and dancing as one. Apart from the dickhead climbing the scaffolding, everyone was there for a good time. PVD's set was amazing - as always - and am I right in remembering them playing Robbie William Millennium at midnight? One of the best night's of my life and one I'll never forget!
I was there as well and remember the idiot climbing the scaffolding. I think, if memory serves me well, they played For An Angel once it all calmed down and the place went mental!!
Anywhere in britain 98-02 (my time raving but you can go back as far as 88) sounded awesome as everyone had a whistle or horn. Some hated them but i loved it

One of my mates who I was there with just sent me this, we share a flat in London at the time and was clubbing every weekend. Now we are both 42, married, 3 kids, mortgage...I now live in America a world away from the 90s club scene but it was something amazing to be part of. I’d forgotten about the guy climbing up the inside of the tent, I want to say it was Tall Paul Newman who was on the decks when it happened. Great night, not a mobile phone in sight!
It was during Paul Van Dyk's midnight big tune, if my fuzzy memory serves me correctly. It was totally ruined for PvD. Once they got him down. Van Dyk punched him in the face :)
PvD was about to start his set when that clown climbed the rigging. Judge Jules shouted "Get down you wanker" over the PA. I seem to remember that not long after there was another announcement... "This is the police - Judge Jules please shut up". I read the same thing about PvD chinning him when he got down. Good times.
After searching for footage for 21 years, suddenly I came across a link on the video that was made to show the Tensile 1 tent structure that GC2000 was in. I saw this video a few hours ago & its taken me till now to post a comment. 22 years ago, wow, I was 20. I was gutted the DVD never came out. Yes it was cold, yes it was over priced, but what a night. Till now all I had found was the recordings of Sasha's Essential Mix. I was working behind the bar that night. I kept walking up to the DJ booth to see if the DJs wanted a drink, I don't think I was supposed to, but it was just an excuse to get to meet my heros. I remember getting drinks for the Chemical Brothers and being in the booth with PVD when Paul Oakenfold rocked up. Was really a privilege. Other comments mention it being cold, I'd forgotten that, but yes it was really freezing, not just outside but in parts of the tent. I remember someone asked to buy my staff T-shirt off me for £50 as a souvenir. As a student, that was a lot of money and I grabbed it with both hands, but maybe I should have kept it, lol.

He didn't ruin it, the DJ stopped his set and with 25000 people shouting at him and get down being displayed on massive plasma screens he didn't stay up there for long

Drugs and heights don't usually mix very well. Amazing, wasn't there but I've heard tell of it from people that were. Think the guy climbing the scaffold started a bit of a trend at UK dance festivals. I recall several early-mid 2000's Global Gathering's having to get some idiot down off the main arena scaffolding!

I was a youngen listening to this event on Radio 1 on the big night. It sounded incredible. There seems to be so little footage of the event. This is the only thing I have been able to find. Think I was only 15 at the time.

The millennium was the beginning of the end for the likes of Cream and Gatecrasher. Hideously overpriced New Year events, coupled with terrible organisation. Would do it all again in the blink of an eye.
beechface1 absolute classic tune it was played twice that night. Tall Paul played it first, here in the vid and then I’m sure Scott Bond knocked it out towards the end of the night. Amazing times. 👌🏻
I traveled from the US for this event. TBH, it was a massive let down. The sound was too quiet the entire time. Very commercial vibe to the whole thing. Scenesters more than true ravers. Not much dancing from the Brits. Gatecrasher had absolutely nothing on US raves in the 90s.
@@MrChip-music Nope. It was a really lame show where the music was far too quiet. This video actually shows this. Apparently, there's some noise ordinance in Sheffield that prevented them from playing loud music.
