As you will all know I have taken a break from rugby gaming and rugby 25. I recently booted it up and had a lot of fun so it this video I'll be playing a game and giving you my MOST RECENT thoughts on the game.

Glad you are back Bears ! I always appreciate and enjoy your clear and objective insight of the way Rugby 25 is progressing and like your positive way of thinking and vision of the end game. I agree about randomness which you mention, like yellow/red cards, injuries, mishandles among other things you already mentioned.
@@TFP_yioud Thanks for the kind words and it's good to be back. We still have a long way to go before the official release I think. That is when we will get a better picture of things.

The tackles look like they've been copy and pasted from the Rugby League Live series that Big Ant also worked on.
Hopefully they get some new tackle animations for the full release, because as you said they're not realistic for rugby union.
Yeah I think they were put in as placeholders. They have brought in more union tackles over time but there are still a few league ones coming through. Hopefully by full release then they will be gone like you said.

Maybe something silly, but would like to see more activity next to the pitch like at real matches…photographers, ballboys, Marshalls, steadicam etc. But starting to look muuuuch better now, starting to get excited I wont lie!
@@danielstoffberg9115 Yeah I know what you mean. There is always lots of sideline activity in real life matches. Players warming up in the try area etc. The game certainly is looking lots better. Thanks for watching 😊
For me, a well structured Career mode with a youth system/development etc would be perfect for me. EA/FIFA has had a youth development system for a long time. Being able to develop your own talent alongside signing players would give that full fleshed experience rugby games have been missing for me.
@@Jordan_VipersRFC something like that would be incredible. Just having players stats moving up and down would be a huge improvement on previous rugby games. If they added youth as well then that would be ace.
@@BearsGamer I love developing youth players. but yeah, stats moving up and down, attributes changing based upon form, potential, training, training facilities etc. Rugby Challenge 4 had a the system to sign new players which I always liked but the career mode felt lifeless. Things felt stationary.
I do hope they look at Youth development in future games :D

@@BearsGamer All we can hope is Rugby 25 is developed into a solid foundation for future games. when they have the backbone for a good game, they can build around it.
My issue is this was announced the start of 2023 to be released for RWC2023 which was and feels like ages ago from a sporting perspective and we are only at this stage in November 2024 is insane to me.
@@StephenDanagher I agree that the time frame is crazy. Clearly they bit off more than they could chew.
If I were to develop a rugby game, I would use al RNG algorithm for every action a player performs. For example, passing, as you initiate a pass the RNG algorithm would execute taking into account the passing skill level of the player. So a high passing skill player would usually perform accurate passes, but with the RNG there is always a chance of a bad pass. I think that kind of mechanism would add randomness and take the skill level of players/teams into account. What do you guys think?

I would love to see more unusual/faulty gameplay i think it would make the game more fun and interesting.

@@GEOMORE11_RUGBY Yeah some more randomness is needed. Knock one, offsides, penalties. That would make a world of difference so that it's not just ruck followed by ruck followed by ruck
Does it have Racing 92 yet? Its the only reason I want Rugby 25.

Do you know if the developers use mo cap for these animations? If not they bloody should.

My problem with these games you will always better than the AI so I think I would love to see the Manager side come into it more than playng the game.

When the full game comes out, will it be possible to make changes to the squad before the start of a match? I have doubts about that, since it would be good if they included it as a next update to be able to make substitutions before and during matches. Regards
@@cristianyuffa8601 a tactics system is coming in one of the next major updates. I'd like to think team management and adjusting line ups would be a part of that 🤞

Do you know if the tackles are like ea sports 2008. For example you have an option for standard tackle and a option for aggressive tackle? Also when on the offensive does it have fend and bump off mechanic? Thanks for the update

@Timothy271279 yes 08 is the goat. R25 does have a bump off and fend action. Also tackling has two opinions. A more conservative tackle and a diving tackle which can knock the ball free.

@@heathman1149 entire formations are off. Scrum half running before he passes instead of squaring stationary. No pods. Offensive ruckers binded side by side. Not graphical, but gameplay wise it is not rugby
Theirs no Super Rugby, MLR, Pacific Nations, Japan Top League Competitions then it ain't rugby

@prayzz13 Rugby 08 is a fantastic game but from many many years ago. There is so much more developers can offer rugby these days. I just hope we get there.
Compared to first release game is better, graphics are amazing outside some small details (player models ,ball spinning,all spectators with sunglasses),im pretty sure we will get updates even after final release,its what they ve done with tiebreak,but looks like still long way to go until there!Cant wait the aproach on tactics to see their vision about rugby!
@@puscasualex7959 Yep, it's in a much better state that when it first came out. I still think we have a long time until full release so plenty of time for more changes. I like the graphics as well

Someone please tell me who the hell did the team ratings??? is that was 82 over means? Because how is Gloucester 70 something and falcons 80? Or tigers 85 same as leinster hahah
@@Nvlarr don't forget that most of these teams don't have the real players in yet so I'm guessing that is why some of the ratings are all over the place. Let's hope it's fixed
For a 2025 game this looks shocking
Hope they could add variations. For eg a double tap on pass for a basic switch or loop pass. Would quite like the ai to pick up if you start doing the same moves forcing to to adapt and change up. I also haaaate the goal kicking from the stupid line showing you it's direction to the camera angles used. Lacks any interest. I agree the game needs more randomness otherwise people will play a few hours and then just delete it
@@boldbeam4534 I like the idea of double tap pass for more variation. Skip pass etc. The goal kicking is certainly a debatable topic 😂 It is very simplistic. I'd like to see a rugby game have a go at NOT having a directional guide. Just flick the stick in the correct direction after you've decided on power. More user based.
Do we know if existing players are going to be able to be edited? Stats wise at least
@@ruggaman720 I'm really not sure what extent real players will be able to be edited due to licensing. There might be restrictions on that but I don't know for sure.
Id settle for just stat editing, some players get really weird ratings in these games that dont make sense so just that would be huge @BearsGamer
@ruggaman720 I agree. I can understand not being able to edit appearance but stats would be great.
@@BearsGamer that being said adding headgear, sleeves, tape etc wouldn't hurt, just no editing the actual player model, adding onto it sure👌
@@ruggaman720 Would be ace but again comes down to the license and if the player/team itself would allow it. Some players might not want to be seen with headgear on for example
The problem with realism in rugby games is that even if a developer were to create a picture perfect simulation of the real game, players would still call it unrealistic.
The reason for this is simple. Most players don't want a realistic rugby game. They want a glorified semi contact touch rugby version of the real game. Spam passes to the edges, zero use of forwards, zero use of kicking, and zero use of tactics. Linebreaks galore, a million passes, a billion offloads, handoffs and sidesteps.
Neither Rugby Challenge 4 or Rugby 22 are close to being perfect games, but you can, for the most part, actually simulate a real rugby match if you play like real teams do. Watch any gameplay video and you'll be sure to find touch rugby.
I don't envy studios who attempt at creating rugby games. This isn't amazing, don't get me wrong, but it's not nearly as bad as many make it out to be. Watch a real game of rugby and then play this to try and simulate it afterward. Try some tactics. There doesn't have to be a linebreak every two seconds. Do some tactical kicking. Use your forwards for field position from which to launch your next more. Just like in the real game, it isn't always about strike moves at every phase. The game will open up for you if you treat it like a real rugby game.

@@GHOUL-t1j The developers behind it are from a league background. They've made league games before. Some of the animations are placeholder league ones that are slowly being removed throughout early access
People dog the game but I'd say it's guna be top 3 out of all rugby games once done.

Rugby 08, Rugby 06, RWC 2011, Rugby Challenge, Rugby 2004 (which plays better than some of the more recent rugby games made).

Awful game. EA need to buy out the license and make their own. Also an EA Rugby League game would be so so good

Im astounded that jonah lomu rugby on ps1 still looks the best rugby game that weve ever had! With all the technology theyve just made it worse. they should just use the lomu rugby as the skeleton and improve it from there. its absolute crazy with all the abomination theyve released since then. this doesnt look like its going to achieve that eithr!
@@alid8646 JLR was a good fun arcade rugby game. I think most developers since then have gone down a more simulation route which hasn't quite worked. This is still in early access so hopefully lots of improvements to come
@@BearsGamer it was in a way, but it worked. the rucks, scrums, place kicking and lineouts worked prety well on it and there was an actual difference in the size of the players in power and speed. you say they gone simulation route, but its still pass out wide and run around people, its literally pointless having forwards on these games. it might be early access, but from my experience of early access not much changes to the full game
Its a tedious game, rinse and repeat plays with zero variation. After playing 20 mins I could see the matrix...Refunded!
