Thanks for your comments. I think the majority of people prefer the double fire of Galaga, but I've always preferred the single-shot precision that's required here. Also, there's quite a bit more variety in Galaga, but the purity of gameplay in Galaxian appeals to me more.
A beginner can get through the first several stages of Galaga pretty easily. Not so with Galaxian. I had to play it for a half hour to clear first stage.
Incredible. I've only just seen this now. I played Galaxian avidly in the arcades growing up. At the time Perry Rodgers in the US had the world record, just in the high 300k region if I remember correctly. I considered myself decent at it with two scores over 330k, and many over 250k. Your achievement is in a different league. Hats off to you!
My high score was always in the 300k. One time I made it to 300k on the first man/ship! Yuppers. Hats off to u sir. You are also a great galaxian defender. Keep playing😀🤾
My alll time favourite game. Lived in Margate from 82'till 83'. I held the record at Space city arcade. Somewhere around 150'000. Great game play BTW.👍
Mighty fancy shootin' there partner, no doubt. "Galaxian" is one of the games that I can remember the first time I saw it and played it at Ocean City Md. Boardwalk arcade. Galaxian was in a class by itself and the RGB color graphics looked...amazing.

Yo en unas de mis arcades tengo la original del fabricante Español petaco ya desaparecido llamada zero time y no logro pasar la quinta o la sesta pantalla de todos modos el de este vídeo es un jugador de primera con unos reflejos endiablados un saludo desde España.
Wow!! What a score, amazing. Love Galaxian, one of my favorite arcade classic video games, have an original cabinet. Always amazed at players that can go several hours for one game. About an hour, or two max, is the longest I can play any arcade classic. I managed a little over 100,000 a couple of times on Galaxian. But watching you play, I see my strategy is similar. So I think I could pull off a 500,000 with a little more practice.
Thanks! 40K is a pretty good score. Anyone who can get to the 1st big 10 flag (~37K) is starting to understand the game mechanics well. It's just practice from there...
(scans through video quickly) For a 7 1/2 hour video with the camera next to a window, I kept expecting night to fall at some point in the recording. :P
In the arcades back in the '80's, I played this religiously. This is one of the greatest space shoot 'em ups of all time. Galaxian will always hold a special place in my arcade playing life.

You are definitely awesome...I used to know a guy named Glenn Dean (GDD), whose high score in the day was ~650,000... this was in the SF Bay Area .. Have you played Super Galaxians? There used to be a version of this where a solid seven wave with a yellow ship would swing across (some off the screen and then back on) the entire screen every so often like a hairpin turn....it is craziness... there's a video of this, but the machine I remember playing was even more extreme with the swings ..
Yeah I love my cab (New Astro City - Sega). I think games look great even on such a large screen. CRT displays are much more forgiving on low pixel count than razor sharp modern ones.
Well done How long have you been playing this to get to this level my highest score is 371k started playing again after Garys high score in 08 so frustrating but it’s in my DNA
Cheers! Started playing the game regularly in November '14, so the record took 18 months in total. This was a couple of games once a week at Arcade Club. I would say serious attempts at the record didn't really happen until Feb '16 when I bought the PCB for my cab. 371k puts you in the top 5!
Good job. I used to work in an arcade in the late 80's early 90's and had an upright Moon Patrol. the longest I ever played a single game though was Black Ops Zombies. After 6 or 7 hours the time suck really becomes apparent.
How did you sleep the night after? I'm curious about needed phisical and mental resistance. That must be really though not losing concentration and fight the phisical distress and fatigue. Hats off, Sir!
Galaxian doesn't have much down time, so playing for hours does get pretty draining. This game ended late at night and I did find sleeping difficult. Made up for it the night after though.
Approx 2:23:50 The Galaxian performs the old fly sideways baiting the Galaxip into running into it at the bottom of the screen by the huge flag while distracted by death from above ploy. From the camera angle it looked like the ship exploded prior to the Galaxian hitting it. It was like I was playing along with you. One of my favorite arcade games. My aunt had one in her bar we'd play at Xmas along with Frogger. My uncle liked to wait for the Galaxians to get as low as possible to pick them off. I can't recall what his scores were. When I used to play MacMAME along time ago at one point when they updated the ROM, the emulated audio made the wrong SFX when your ship was destroyed which sort of takes the fun out of it in a way. The last authentic arcade game I've played was Donkey Kong in remarkable shape at an amusement park's main arcade which was hot and humid. HI Score was over 100k points but a typical game was 75k which is a satisfying score in a venue like that. They auctioned off all of their classic arcade games and pinball machines some of those were rare when they put in redemption tickets for prizes style games. Although that includes a giant Pac-Man and Space Invaders. What's your HI Score on an authentic Galaxian machine in an arcade for the purists' out there? And what score do you think you could have achieved if you kept playing here?
Hey thanks for the comments. I really like background stories around arcades. I’ve never tried to beat this score at an arcade but have several times scored more than a million on an original cab.
@@CharlieFar How much different does the joystick feel between this and an authentic cabinet? It's interesting how I can play some games on Mac MAME better with an extended keyboard that has the arrow keys next to each other like a laptop but they're really large. I have a hard time playing multicades for that very reason especially with so many buttons in the way or if it has fighter game style joysticks. That amuseement park arcade had to put a Nintendo Donkey Kong stick on Zaxxon lol which made it easier to play imho I was good at Zaxxon anyhow. Amazing what a combo of ColecoVision and MacMAME can do for practice for the real arcade game even though as I mention the 'controls' are completely different you still get a confident feel for the game.
@@CharlieFar yeah that's what I was thinking you can't walk away from it since it doesn't have extra lives. @@amusement420 I was using a 4 way restrictor on my stick so it doesn’t really feel that different to the arcade cab. Having said that, there are 3 types of controls available on Galaxian cabs. Played it in the early 80s & play it on my laptop now. It looks easier though as the proper screen is portrait way up, as opposed to a pc which is landscape... the aliens are much closer and you have less time to kill them.

I have an original Galaxian machine at home. Just curious, what is your high score on a vintage machine? Are you sitting down while playing for this world record? I can imagine that would be a great advantage while playing for 7 hours. Congratulations!!!
I play on an original Galaxian quite regularly in an arcade close to me. I've managed 1 million+ scores on a number of occasions there. There's a video on my channel that shows the safe spot trick with my score over a million and a ship in reserve on an original Galaxian. I sacked the game at that point. I don't really see that sitting down offers an advantage. Many players sit on a stool playing original classic cabs when they are playing for any length of time. Cool that you have a Galaxian cab!
Played this for the first time, I _think,_ last Tuesday. I don't think I ever gave it a shot as a kid because it was "too old" (it's a year younger than me lol). Turns out I really like it. Dropped a whole lot of quarters that day, my best score was just under 12,000. I've got a Sega NAC just like this, maybe I should pick up a board...
To guy who gets 2 million on galaxian. How much pràctice did it take ? How many months ? And what other games are you good at ? Also, is game you played on TH-cam mame with bunch of. games ? Or ?
I started playing the original Galaxian arcade cab regularly in October 2014, maybe 2-3 games every Saturday evening at a local arcade. This continued for maybe 15 months or so. So not really that many hours in total. I bought an original Galaxian board in February 2016 (the one I played in this video) and decided it was time to attempt the record as my PB was 1.3 million. The record at the time was held by Aart Van Vliet with 1.65 million points. With the PCB, I was then able to practise more regularly - probably averaging 3-4 practise sessions a week. This included streaming some of my attempts to Twitch as well. The game here was performed in May 2016, So to answer your question - it took about 15 months of casual playing, with intense practise only in the last 3 months.
Didn't see the other question. I love lots of other game modern and old, though I'm mainly drawn to the golden age classics. I'm quite good at some of them but bad to average with the rest. My favourites include Donkey Kong, Centipede, Galaga, Bump 'n Jump, Qbert, Berzerk, Arkanoid...
Hi I remember this game when I was 17. I got banned from playing it in the pub as I could be on for a couple of hours all for the just 10 pence. If i remember correctly my record was around 450k, used to take me around 2 hours. No wonder the pub landlord banned me!!. Where can i buy a machine like this, would like to see if i could get anywhere near my old record?
A good place to start would be to join a few arcade forums. Learn a little bit about them so you can make an informed purchase. The Arcade Otaku forum specialises in these types of cab (Candy Cabs). UKVAC is a great community of arcade collectors, restorers and players. Good luck on your record.
Thanks. I've been playing on and off for the past 2 years roughly. At first, only a few games once a week at a classic arcade that I'm very fortunate to live local to. In February 2016 I bought my own Galaxian pcb for my cab to seriously take up the challenge. The record was performed in May live on Twitch.

My new records : 357700. Youpi!!!!
Nice stuff
You're very good at galaxian
How many aliens did you kill total.
No one's asked that I don't think! 556 waves x 46 enemies (per wave) = 25,576 + 25 on last wave = 25,601.
Great Master of Galaxian 🏆👏👏👏
Thanks Yaztromo!
Jeezzzusss...over one million on a vintage cab. You are a god.
I'll never get that 7 hours and 38 minutes back.
Me neither :)
Yes, you'll never get it back. The question here then becomes, what are you getting in return for that investment of your time?
If only Billy Mitchell recorded like how u did 😂🤣😙😗😘😍😚🤗
Great skill man respect
This is more entertaining then Superb Owl. Anyday.
Amazing game play.
Basically you can play this forever on one coin. It's just how long you can resist sitting in the same spot.
Boards aren't too difficult to find and not ridiculously expensive. 12,000 is a good start. Practice makes perfect.
wow , amazing. is there any other games you are this good at ? like Galaga or Phoenix for example.
mastery 🎩
I'm over here tryna beat 20k 😭😭😭😭
Keep practising and have fun!
Same!
I have it on name.
I really don't see much difference on it. So what other games ar3 you efficient in ? What city state are you in ?
Didn't see the other question. I love lots of other game modern and old, though I'm mainly drawn to the golden age classics. I'm quite good at some of them but bad to average with the rest. My favourites include Donkey Kong, Centipede, Galaga, Bump 'n Jump, Qbert, Berzerk, Arkanoid...
UK
Hi I remember this game when I was 17. I got banned from playing it in the pub as I could be on for a couple of hours all for the just 10 pence. If i remember correctly my record was around 450k, used to take me around 2 hours. No wonder the pub landlord banned me!!. Where can i buy a machine like this, would like to see if i could get anywhere near my old record?
If you're in the UK then look at Home Leisure Direct!
A good place to start would be to join a few arcade forums. Learn a little bit about them so you can make an informed purchase. The Arcade Otaku forum specialises in these types of cab (Candy Cabs). UKVAC is a great community of arcade collectors, restorers and players. Good luck on your record.
Midway distribution(worldwide) nice NAMCO WAS OWNS THE RIGHTS NAMCO MUSEUM LEGENDARY DO YOU HAVE IT
Incredible score!
Thanks!
Fantastic! How long did you train for this amazing performance?
Thanks. I've been playing on and off for the past 2 years roughly. At first, only a few games once a week at a classic arcade that I'm very fortunate to live local to. In February 2016 I bought my own Galaxian pcb for my cab to seriously take up the challenge. The record was performed in May live on Twitch.
unbelievable!!
Cheers! :)
That's pretty amazing!
Thanks!
how can one's aim be this good?
Practise, practise, practise.
maaaaannn.. go get some rest. respect

INSANE CONGRATZ SeemsGood
U still have ur right hand? Kappa
Thanks! Yeah, just about fully recovered now...
Well done fella 👍🏻
Thanks!
There is no kill screen in Galaxian ? Heard there was and saw.
No killscreen, even after 556 waves. You might be thinking of Galaga which does on certain settings.
Heard galaga has kill screen if set on easy settings. If on hardest settings does galaga still have a kill screen ?
@@cooler1854 That's right. You have to play on hardest setting to play past the 255th stage.
Sorry, that reads a little unclear. Galaga on hardeat setting doesn't have a kill screen.
