    Up cycling waste. Appropriately Low tech. Genius and exactly appropriate for the context! I'll buy bags of it if it's available in my country.

    Saw one char maker use sheet metal. Made a long section about 5 feet long, folded it over to make like a triangle. Then Put wood in the triangle. Poured the rice hulls over the metal. Set the wood in the triangle on fire. Made about twice the amount of char. Than is made in this video.

      The volume of carbonized rice husks will directly depend on the size of the pile you start with. If you start with a pile twice the size you will end up with twice the volume...try it!

    First of all thank you for promoting this great technique.
    There is little wrong with this technique. You should not 'BURN' the hull. Burning will give you Ash. what we need is charcoal. When you do this properly you dont get smoke from the hull.
    Charcoal itself not a fertilizer but it attracts substances and releases slowly. We have been using this from sometime and seen very fruitful results.

    • @AbundantbyNature
      @AbundantbyNature  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes you are right. Way less smoke should be coming out of the pipe. But over all we get a very, very good ration ash to charcoal. It isn't the most professional system. It's a solution for everyone to access the product and use it.

    Mixed with cement it will make a good fireproof insulator or even aircrete. You will have to charge that stuff or it will reduce soil fertility. Add your sewage and urine. My land in Portugal and the Philippines is low fertility so I will be adding biochar.

  • @georgecarlin2656
    @georgecarlin2656 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is called biochar in the US and other countries, one should also charge/inoculate it before applying to soil

    ARE YOU NOT POLLUTING THE ENVIRONMENT WITH THE SMOKE? IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO COMPOST THE RICE HUSK?

    • @AbundantbyNature
      @AbundantbyNature  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, carbonizing will require burning, therefore it will create some smoke. The pollution isn't really big compare to the potential benefits of using Carbonized Rice Hull (CRH).
      But to be clear, CRH has nothing to do with composting, but the fact that you can add it to your compost pile. I recommend you look into composting method if you want to create compost and not CRH.

    I did this but I have lot of wood shavings . How can I use it on plants?

    • @AbundantbyNature
      @AbundantbyNature  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, not being sure I understand your question, I will answer the 2 options.
      1- You can definitely use CRH on plants directly after it cool down. I would recommend you mix it with good quality compost first, though.
      2- regarding the wood shavings I would recommend you use it to mulch more woody plants, like bushes and trees. Wood shavings will need "N" to break down. therefore it may starve you vegetables and other shallow rooted plants form Nitrogen. If you have a lot, wood shavings a great used as on path as well.

      Hi there, Sorry I couldn't tell you about the temperature. I never measured it. You don't need to. Only look at the husks becoming black. This is the measuring tool you need for this method. Have fun with it !

    • @AbundantbyNature

      Hi Aiden, the answer is very simple. one, the ash is a powder, the second is still shaped like the original carbon source you used to start with.
