Grail dolls are an interesting concept since I feel like they can be the next doll that amazes/fascinates you or a doll you've waited years for or a doll you know you'll never have... I think I personally have an ultimate grail doll that is completely unreachable since she is too expensive for me at her price point for her size, for my current life situation and my collection goals, which is the Bardoresearch Anitya. She is gorgeous and fascinates me everytime I see her. I don't think that'll stop, but I also rationalised with myself that I shouldn't buy her. A semi-grail doll in comparison would be the NakanaDoll body, since I do definitely want to buy it at some point, but I do not have the funds and space for her right now. I find it also interesting how different hobbies have different names for these things: grail doll in the BJD/doll hobby, dream dress in the EGL hobby, etc
My current grail doll is the now discontinued Doll Chateau Ona; her face sculpt, outfit, and body are so beautiful, but she was too expensive for me :(
I used to have a grail doll when I first joined the hobby, then decided that I would not really enjoy the doll... and after that, I never really felt that I had a grail doll. I have not thought about a doll being a grail doll in a whiel, probably because I have not come across a doll that I wanted that I could not obtain recently. Idk... I am going to give it some thought, maybe I do have one and I just have not labled it as such because I forgot that a "garail doll" was a thing.😊
Labels are often just short-hand "thought concepts" we use to convey meaning, and in that, meaning can vary from person to person. So I think it's very cool to read that you don't have a grail doll because it shows exactly how it's a super subjective concept, and that it doesn't have to be a thing for everyone :) Thanks so much for sharing!
Well I have a few “grail” dolls as of right now. three are from SmartDoll By Danny Choo; Interstellar Blue girl Anomaly Zombie, Kabuki and Chitose Multiverse in Tea skin-tone. a Lillycat like you, a PashaPasha, a Hush full face up. Isla dolls Kiwi🥝 Blueberry 🫐 and Raspberry girls. But that’s not probably because I’m new to this hobby. Lol
