Fricken awesome man! I get stressed out in my stocks of certain security pins that I take from high security locks and have some success making them myself but this really helps.

Awesome work on those pins, my friend.
I'll be saving this video for the next time I make a CL.
    Take care!

That's perfect timing, my son and I are making our first challenge lock together and needed some inspiration, you gave that as well as some great guidance too. Thank you

Nice job on the pin fabrication. You made it look quick and easy. Saw had some brass rod on you're desk, I wish you had touched on that also. Do you use 3mm for the brass rod when you make pins from that?

Great video, Notl! The only thing I think I could add to this is that you can also use a drill press instead of a rotary tool, if you have it. The material will come off more slowly, but having both your hands free is an advantage, I think. I still wouldn't recommend a hand drill, but basically any sort of shop tool that can spin a piece of brass will work.

I've never thought of that. Smart though probably have more control over the cuts aswell

You have to be careful putting lateral or sideways pressure on a drill press. The chuck taper is not made for side loads and can fly off in use. Probably not a problem with something like this. But keep a eye out. Also the speed of the dremel is higher and will lead to smoother cutting.

Great tutorial! I notice that all your pins are mirror symmetrical around the vertical plane (left-right symmetry). I'm wondering how well the pins work if you break the symmetry. Have a look at 'Helical Gears' for an idea for a pin. The helical pattern breaks the left-right symmetry however I believe the shape of the gear (thus the pin) still allows it to function properly.

    Two things
#1-Don't know if I missed it, but how do you have your dremel held in place? I'm also curious about that collet you have holding the pins-I tried with the standard end on a dremel, and was left looking for pins that got flung when I tried to work on them
#2-I didn't hear you say it, but good lighting makes a difference! You seem to have some great lighting at your work station, but I'm still needing to work on that myself.
Oh, and good call on the steak knife! I stumbled on that myself when trying to make some serrations for training-glad to see I'm not alone!

My dremel is held in place via a table top mounted vise. I've wrapped my dremel in painters tape as well so that when I put it in the vise it holds it better. Hope this helped!!! Thanks for watching

Very educational and thank you for putting in the effort! Question, what are you using to clamp your Dremmel down so it doesn't move?

Made my first cL and this vid is definitely gonna help make number 2 even more cLier. Thanks - question- what size is the rod and how do you know how big or small to make it and how do you saw it off if it is a longer rod in the Chuck making a custom pin?

Can attest that making pins on drill is harder.

You buys have it on lock down, as far as having a reddit, discord and a youtube channel. all the same did i miss something. you laid out everything we need , but did i miss the diameter size of the brass rod? i may be dumb though.. did i miss it?
