      Exactly so. Dredd himself, especially. He is a manifestation of the very concept of justice. Nobody gets away with anything. Their intense training and decades of experience render them superhuman.
      In their universe, it was actually the increasing corruption and uselessness of standard cops in the face of increased organised crime and corrupt courts.
      Dredd is supposed to be satirical, and it often is satirising fascists, but Dredd is the only cop I'd personally trust to uphold the legal system and punish the guilty, which is a weird thing to end up thinking for satire.

The police have guns!". Thing is, that within about 25 feet,(The rule is 21 feeet) sharp metal beats high-speed lead about 60% of the time. I'm not just going off what some police officer says. I used to be a federal firearms instructor in the early 2000s, just did it part time. Anyways, we would often do a simunition exercise of 9mm vs rubber marking knife, and usually, the only groups to not take a casualty had highly experienced shooters, way beyond your average police officer. For those not familiar with simunition, it is a type of low power bullet filled with marking chalk that can be fired by most 9mm and 5.56mm weapons, allowing for training with the same weapons someone will use

    • @All-SeeingGuy
      @All-SeeingGuy หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Taser guns are unfortunately not as reliable as you might think. It fires out 2 little metal prongs, and both have to thoroughly lodge into the person's flesh or the taser does nothing. This means that if one misses, gets tangled in clothing, or for ANY reason doesn't make solid contact with the target's skin, the taser does nothing. This, combined with the fact that a lot of taser guns seem to be fairly inaccurate, means you usually have to be pretty close to use one, and there's a good chance of failure even if you hit if your target is wearing anything like a jacket or thick, loose-fitting clothes.
      Also, there's even plenty of cases where even if BOTH taser prongs hit, the taser may not be effective, like if the person is fairly overweight, the electrical current can just uselessly arc back and forth through the fat and have no effect on their muscles.

    Vaush, I respectfully disagree with your "every shot is a kill shot" scenario. In Europe, we have had attacks by knife where people have been stabbed and the stabber is then shot in their limb and gets medical attention for what is usually a minor wound, and lives in high percentages of the police shooting cases. This is not done frequently, it's when de-escalation isn't possible and the stabbing is already occurring.

    Yeah, pretty sure they tell you in martial arts classes not to use your martial arts to try to overcome a knife lol... But like, in unarmed close combat it'd be helpful...
    As for like, man catchers or the many people with shields, feel like that'd mostly be useful in very populated areas... Not so in like small towns or rural areas where it's harder to get that many officers all in one place for just one belligerent... The shield strat required a SWARM of officers... If you have 2 people with mancatchers and one immobilizes a guy with a machete, what does the other person do? Restrain his arm? Then what? How do they approach this person safely if its just them holding him and his weapon back? They don't... And if they need to wait long then they better not tire of holding these rods keeping the person in place while he struggles to free himself... Also I feel like if you used mancatchers it'd be kinda concerning since if one person immobilizes him, until that person's knife is also held in place this person can still just throw the knife at the officer pinning him with the mancatcher, which would probably happen if the 2nd officer isn't fast enough at also latching onto his arm holding the weapon...
    OR if there's 2 officers with man catchers and the guy has 2 knives one for each hand, how do those officers possibly use the mancatchers to stop and disarm this guy safely? It just wouldn't be possible... Plus so many Americans have guns that it'd be relatively easy for you to end up in a situation where you bring a man catcher to a gun fight... Unlike the UK where guns are quite restricted, or China where guns are EXTREMELY restricted... In which case you can be reasonably sure that the people do not have guns... So they couldn't really rely on these man catchers being useful in many situations, it'd just be this big thing they'd be carrying around all the time and not finding useful most of the time...
    And obviously it'd also cost tax dollars that could probably be spent on better solutions to the same problem... So yeah, maybe would be useful in a big city with low gun violence I guess but I feel like a lot of big cities in America have high gun violence (that's where all the people and money are), and the more rural areas don't have enough officers generally...

    If that's what happened tho if someone runs at you with a knife you really don't have any time to de-escalate. You're armed and someone comes at you with a knife that is an attempt at your life and they've resigned their rights to have you worry about their health and well-being, cop or no cop nobody can afford risk having a blade sunk into their flesh if they can help it, there are many places on your body where being stabbed even once could be lethal on a similar level to getting shot.
    Complaining about cops being overtly trigger happy I'm all for but saying police can't defend with lethal force against knife attackers is crazy talk. To do a 'non-violent takedown' on someone coming at you with a knife without getting cut or stabbed you would have to be some martial art phenom while they where a total yahoo. Look at any of the martial arts channel where guys are trying to defend against a guy holding a magic marker attempting to draw on them and you'll see how unreasonable a request it is for someone to be able to do this.

      d) it's not that hard to use non lethal force, even in dangerous situations. Almost all police in Europe does it, and somehow Europa has wayyy lower violent crime and wayyyy lower numbers of citizens killed by cops
