    Very cool strategy. Well thought out. I typically will try to chip it short to his deuce sideline making the server run to the sideline. If he can get to it, he will most likely hit cross court where i will be. However so far, i haven't played an opponent that can get to it because it's nearly a drop shot. So typically what happens is that my opponent will then slice or go into my body on second serves and then I have narrowed his choices and that places more pressure on their 2nd serve creating double faults.

    Nice video - this kind of tactical stuff is interesting; I'll try it! Do you have a video about dealing with lobs, or not getting lobbed at the net? I'm not so bothered about passing shots, but getting lobbed drives me crazy. I know I need to approach while my approach shot is in the air, then split step in time to be prepared for a lob or pass, but have you got any other tips?

      First, start understanding how often you are getting lobbed; for example, say you get lobbed 5 times during a set. Seems like a lot, right? Now consider how many points it takes to win a set 24, and if the set is close, your opponent may have just as many. Out of 48 points played, now 5 doesn't seem like so many anymore. Next, understand how close to the net you are getting when you close. Could it be that you are getting so close to the net, making it to easy to get over your head even if your opponent hits a poor lob? And lastly, try using a slice to approach. By hitting a firm low underspin shot, it becomes much more difficult for your opponent to hit a good lob. I hope that helps.

      @@JordanCoons Thank you very much for the advice!
      You are right, perhaps I don't get lobbed that often, it just seems that way because it's annoying.
      Also, I'll focus on taking a step or two back when I've come right up to the net, and do a split step in time while watching the opponent's stroke set up (that's what my coach advised).
      Good idea about the slice too - the forehand slice is also a shot that seems to be a safer bet for me when hitting short balls down the line .

    Great video! Doubles? Still deep topspin?

    • @JordanCoons
      @JordanCoons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, stick mainly to topspin. If you hit up the line, let your partner know you are doing so so they can cover the middle preventing the opposing volleyer from passing through the center.

    how do you return the weak 2nd serve in doubles

    • @JordanCoons
      @JordanCoons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either at the net player or hard angle cross court typically

    Thanks for the great insights. Personally I'm always trying to attack a weak second serve. But why you are so sure that if I hit this zone, my opponent will always respond with the down the line shot?

    • @JordanCoons
      @JordanCoons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because I have used this return a thousand times with the same result, it's a return a serve-volley touring pro taught me a long time ago.
      How they come off of their serve having to give up ground and run to the ball brings them even with the ball almost late and forces it back down the line or at the best middle.

    • @JordanCoons
      @JordanCoons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, if you miss that target and hit slightly more towards the middle, they go cross-court because their instinct is to avoid you.

      @@JordanCoons Thanks for the detailed elaboration on that. I'm definitely gonna use this strategy in my next match :) It would be great if in the future you'll share more tips for chip&charge and serve&volley, I have a feeling that these techniques are underestimated now, especially at the recreational level against pushers.
