Irony in this video: The Imperialist forces used here are from the Satsuma Clan (based on the clan logo). The movie was based on the Satsuma Rebellion in which Satsuma and the rest of their allies betrayed the Imperialists and rebelled until they were wiped out on the last stand (which was the last battle in the movie)
Really well done. This is one of my favorite movies, and you've captured it in a game that not only pays its respects, but shows an incredible talent and eye for detail. Great job. :)
Man, I have been dreaming of someone making this video since the day Shogun 2 came out, this just made my day. If you will ever get a chance to make it better with new mods, please do so. Other than that, thank you once again! This was almost as epic as the battle from the movie!
That scene where everybody gets mowed down by the gatling guns... Such emotion... Overall, I think this is absolutely great work (Can't stop raping the replay button)
As for Tom Cruise, no one knows what became of him. Some say that he died of his wounds. Others, that he returned to his own country. But I like to think he may have at last found some small measure of peace, that we all seek, and few of us ever find.
Received another Strike on my 'Salvation Trailer'...I'm afraid that I am to be uploading to my other channel more regularly as I can't keep taking the risks on this channel... Wow. This video (and the movie) has inspired me to try out raising a samurai army in FOTS. While the whole process is very challenging for me. It certainly is a shit ton of fun.
Honestly, the first firearm units suck. Ive been able to use primitive weapons for most of the game until the enemy starts building dedicated infantry units and gatling guns.
Tell that to troops that have fought room to room with the enemy. I'd love to see you in the same situation, or hell, a couple hundred yards away from even a stationary target. It's not as easy as typing away on a keyboard, judging real men. Living>honor any day of the damn week.
Japan truly did have the most brutal transition into guns, out of any country. It was so bloody, and the fact that for a very long time in that war the samurai actually held their own was amazing.
Knoxx Plays I respect your difference of opinion and there is some truth too what you say but labeling all the samurai as the same would be unfair. Also suggesting that the imperial army were the 'good guys' considering what happened in world war two is going a little far. The samurai were political out maneuvered and were defeated because of their lack of unity and indecisiveness in whether they where going to rebel or not. Not because they were inferior troops. I respect the samurai because they were one of the last ancient warrior army's to be fielded. They showed the strength of the individual and no matter how bad things got, they never gave up.
this was amazing, the battle, the camera shots, the sound, and weirdly even the faces of the blue soldiers which showed no remorse and showed they didnt care about the lives of the other side (so really shogun 2 helped make it better without having any facial animation).
For me it´s one of the best videos ever made for shogun 2. Congratulation man really perfect work. When is see this movie i started to cry. that´s magic !!!
This is a rough reconstruction of the Battle of Hakodate, one of the last land battles in the Japanese home islands. The attacking Imperial Army was equipped with Minie muzzleloading and Spencer breechloading rifles and bayonets, plus artillery; the defending Samurai used recently-phased-out German fusils in addition to bows, spears and swords.
Brilliant effort! I particularly liked the way you substituted the Hay-bale explosive things with cannonballs, hidden out of shot! 9/10 Great recreation!

The last samurai story is a real story but not american like the propaganda movie but the story of the french Jules Brunet. Hollywood love stole and/or change the history/heros of other nations.
Even the Brunet comparison is kind of weak. Though I do reccomend looking up the guy, he's pretty cool. The movie is actually a combined inspiration from both the Boshin War (Reference to foreign influences and advisors training the army) and the Satsuma Rebellion. (Caste war over samurai privilege lost after the Boshin War) For one thing, the idea that the samurai refused to use guns. I mean, why couldn't they have been professional swordsmen and gunners? They were, how would it not be awesome in the movie for it to be so?
+tenchimuyo69 It Hurts their Pride and Honour. Since a Gun could Instantly kill a Person, even an Untrained Guy could use It. and they were trained to Use swords since they were Born.
I suppose, but Samurai of both the Boshin War and the Satsuma Rebellion that film is based on used rifle and canon. Samurai are warriors. One of their jobs is fighting and killing and a gun is a good way to do that.
tenchimuyo69 The Bushido Code the Samurais were born with are engraved into them. so they see that using Rifles and Cannons are Considered dishonorable for them who used to fight, I Suppose. But that would be Really Awesome as well, Seeing Samurais using Rifles and stuff with their armor on. Lol.
this is the most beautiful remake of the last samurai movie . I thank you for your hard work and dedication . U sir r awesome! keep up the AWESOME WORK!!!
If you mean ingame then In this movie, i used hand grenades for the effect. You can use fire arrows, catapults, cannons but thats about all you can get
That sounds like the battle in the fog in the Last Samurai. This battle was the ending battle, where they fought in the field, which offers a huge advantage to the line infantry and the gatlings.
Absolutely brilliant , I got chills watching the film but this gave me GOOSEBUMPS ! that's it now , time to play shogun ;) you guys should be proud of yourselves !
In addition I also have to point that historical event this event this drama movie based off of the samurai didn't go into battle armed with spears, bows, and armor. They actually did have firearms and utilized them quite effectively until the ammo ran out. After which they had to use their katana swords and were promptly mowed down in hail of gun fire.
your videos are superb, your intros, fantastic, and your facts and basis of knowledge, impeccable sir. ignore the trolls and people who think they know everything, and seek to bring you down. I am now subscribing to your vids, because the effort you put into making your vids, is admirable. and the fact I love the movie last samurai as well lol
Very good, you matched up game footage with how the film plays out very well. Nice editing/sound editing. Liked. I know the film has its issues, but it's very much a guilty pleasure of mine, as it's an engaging story with great production design - all the Samurai look fantastic, great score, great action scenes, a fine piece of cinematic entertainment.
You followed the movie and you added blood pack to make look more realistic, THIS IS SPARTAN! Nah, just kidding. This is epic because you're the best spartan you made.
My respects for which I believe this work of art undoubtedly reflects the difference of two completely different armies can mention that if it was not for that new "weapon" that they took at the last moment the cavalry would have done pedasos in summary the samurai they would have won the battle.
Good job mate! Really loved the audio in the back and the way u controlled ur men! I watched the movie last night and it's almost exact the same!!! Keep up the good work xD
1) Cannons of that time were fast to reload, at least compared to cannons of the previous era. They were also incredibly accurate. The guns used in this era weren't actually matchlock rifles, but Breech-loaded French rifles, which could fire something like a dozen bullets a minute. They were also effective up to 1200 meters, according to Wikipedia. This makes it likely that the bullets could pierce easily samurai armour. And the GATLING gun was invented in 1862, about 20 years before this.
QUICK HISTORY LESSON: rifled, breach loading cannons with modern "shells" were fast to reload and quite accurate. The matchlock guns of early-modern Japanese warfare were replaced by american made breach loading rifles firing modern cartridges when trade was opened to the US. Late samurai armor consisted of scaled plates with older style coated leather. however, even this could be pierced by most firearms (hence why the rebellions failed) Also, US made Gatling guns were sold to the Japanese.
This was a GREAT video, although it's a shame about the bayonets I couldn't help but laugh when the annotation appeared pointing out katsumoto's dead body xD Good work man :D
More interested infomation if you like. Satsuma is the name of the capital of Shimazu clan in Japanese medieval era. Which clan is also the clan invade Korea during 7 years war. Later they are called by their capital name - Satsuma.
If only it could be remade with higher graphics and smooth framerate. It'd be even more amazing.
i love how there's bodies flying everywhere and the guy says "what on earth?"
Bagley was shocked he sent his troops into a trap.
Ikr
Good for you wanna cookie
Really you want one my guy
I always shed tears every time I see the ending of the last samurai, an end of one of the greatest warriors to ever live
I love how the riflemen reload by glancing at their rifles for a few seconds.
Really well done. This is one of my favorite movies, and you've captured it in a game that not only pays its respects, but shows an incredible talent and eye for detail. Great job. :)
Amazing, the quality of the Shogun 2 animations allows this video to be almost as good as the actual movie
I remember when this guy had a shitty computer, if only he would remake this :/ *HINT*HINT*
LOL! Perhaps he will.....one day.... HINT*HINT
+Cameron Johnson enough...
still waiting
GTA Cinematic yes
Still waiting
I don't care what people say, you just got nominated for the best short film of 2012. Excellent job dude.
where is Tom Cruise!!!???
joke: In a F14.
MISSING
If you guys are still alive, i found him. He's the foreign veteran accompanying the traditional army
Man, I have been dreaming of someone making this video since the day Shogun 2 came out, this just made my day. If you will ever get a chance to make it better with new mods, please do so. Other than that, thank you once again! This was almost as epic as the battle from the movie!
To the people who don't like the graphics:try rendering a few thousand people with high graphics .
rwoodsist This was made in 2012. Things have changed a lot since then.
Great job with the close ups in all that action. Lots of variety, synced up incredibly well.
That scene where everybody gets mowed
down by the gatling guns... Such emotion...
Overall, I think this is absolutely great work

The mowing down of the Gatling guns brought tears to my eyes :'( it was just as emotional as the film
Man this was pretty f*cking neat, you did an awesome job recreating this on Shogun. You now have a new sub sir, keep doing what your doing man!!
That was one of the most epic videos I have ever watched! Well done!
Wow. This video (and the movie) has inspired me to try out raising a samurai army in FOTS.

Use them well.
Honestly, the first firearm units suck. Ive been able to use primitive weapons for most of the game until the enemy starts building dedicated infantry units and gatling guns.
Despite the low frame rate, this is one of my favorite TW vids on youtube. *subscribed*
There is no honour in modern warfare.
damn right its why my family stick to sword play theres some honour behind a sword.
Indeed I've read that most of the time they can't even tell if they have hit the enemy or not because the distance is so great.
ill stay with modern type... I dont dont wanna stand in in a large group gettind shot at. I prefer the modern, but ofcourse thats my opinion....
My father allways told me = " weapons are the incarnation of human cowardice " . That was so true .

The last samurai story is a real story but not american like the propaganda movie but the story of the french Jules Brunet.

You followed the movie and you added blood pack to make look more realistic, THIS IS SPARTAN! Nah, just kidding. This is epic because you're the best spartan you made.
You got what you wanted "The Last Samurai - Shogun 2 Total War (Machinima)" Nothing more nothing less
i can agree to that. i did that bit on purpose as it felt sad when two enemies but yet brothers of the same country wounded side by side
My respects for which I believe this work of art undoubtedly reflects the difference of two completely different armies can mention that if it was not for that new "weapon" that they took at the last moment the cavalry would have done pedasos in summary the samurai they would have won the battle.

"Cannons" The weapon very destructible
Theres always an option to make your own! Don't give me negative feedback when you haven't even tried to create your own.
Terrific job, truly. I thought it was as amazing as it was tragic.
So well put together
Holy crap, that was awesome, keep up the good work mate !
