      Chicago wasn't too thrilled with Dach's performance three years into his professional career.
      They basically gave up on him. Think about it, why would Chicago give up a 3rd pick in Dach (2019 draft) for two picks? Dach is a 0.4 per game player after 152 games in the N.HL.
      I hope it works out but the odds are not good.

      He's a career -22 Centreman who has put up 0.4 per game points. So tell me again what he excells at.
      Look, if you are a top Centreman who doesn't put up points but doesn't get scored against that would be fine.
      Or if your a Jack Hughes type Centreman who puts up huge points and has similar plus/minus stats as Dach... at least your putting up big points in a game and you are a difference maker.
      Dach was on a 3rd line with Chicago and Montreal or Tony is already pinning him into the top or 2nd line Centreman.
      The odds for success aren't a bust.

    I believe the difference maker between all 3 possible choices was the way Slav reacted when the Habs discussed his weakness. He seems to not take it personnal and recognized areas of improuvement. Wright always mentioned he can grow but always have answers to explain why he does one thing and not the other. This might be a barrier to improvement. I like all 3 guys. I think they made a very good choice and lots of fun for all Habs fans in the year to come.

  • @LovePegasus

    Very good analysis Tony. I was hoping that Mtl would pick Slavskovsky. So I'm happy. At first, when they traded Romanov I was disapointed but as you said, it's a good move to have traded for Dach, a big player. You are very humble....

    • @appletile2887
      @appletile2887 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I completely agree, they see Dach as another Cole whose coach smothered his creativity and ice time. St. Louis has been given the green light to be all offence this coming season. That's why Romanov went...bye...bye. The team will do everything they can to get Bedard next year while icing an exciting team that can score. I see Allen gone early in the season by a trade. Montreal will put a range of rookie goalies in the net simply for experience and see what their weak spots are.

    • @sb0182

      They would’ve picked Slafs over Wright
      EVEN IF they didn’t have the Dach trade in place.
      They saw Wright being lazy all year.
      And they found some deep-rooted personality & character issues.

    • @stevestreet4402
      @stevestreet4402 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This wasn't exactly left field....thus guy was ranked between 1 and 2 so really it was more of a coin flip pick. I think something with Wright threw a few teams whether it was his attitude or his performance at the combine or the importance his parents being involved in his career ( a la Lindros or Marner) whatever it was three teams passed on him so maybe it wasn't as left field as taking a guy ranked 10th to 15th att 3rd overall. I think the trade for Dach was already in the works making a winger the better choice.

    IMO, Slafkovsky will become a top 10 left winger in the NHl... Wright will become a top 50 in the NHL. The Habs are trending for players that are strong minded and love carrying the puck at great speed. I think that Poeling, Dvorak, Petry and Hoffman will be gone by mid October. Drouin and Armia, (maybe Anderson) will be gone next Spring at trade deadline. Next season, the Habs will get 70 points, but not make the playoffs. The HABS will accumulate four picks in the first round next year.

Are Dach's numbers not worse than KK's through 3 NHL seasons and both were number 3 overall picks. Dach is a #2 center with those numbers. I like Romanov! Because he's physical! But I like this trade for the CH. Mostly for the reason that Marinaro pointed out but more importantly, that's how you trade a defenseman. You don't trade PK for another d-man, and you don't trade Sergachev for a winger that can't play center when that's what you need! Even if Dach never reaches his full potential, he won't hurt because he can do more than produce points. Size down the middle, plays both ways... it remains to be seen what he can become for us but I can already say Hughes and his team is fixing a lot of what the old regime broke!

    Hope for a D with the 33th. Chesley, Luneau or Warren would be sick. Nhl defensemen have so much value we saw that with Romanov.

    Who cares what Wright thinks, Zadina did the same, even saying he will fill Montreal's net with pucks, well he hasn't. We just got a brand new line. I'm happy like a hippo. Great points Tony. I wanted change and this is change, Wright and keeping Romanov is not change.
