    Just celebrating our first 3 months with our petrol MG-ZS 1.0 liter turbo with manual transmission, panoramic sun roof (moon roof?) that OPENS, electric seats, full 360° camera (never thought about having one - but now I use it to park and love it!!), leatherette seats, electric driver’s seat and with a €40 CARABC adapter - full wireless Apple CarPlay which is super. On a recent 700 km trip with my mountain bike on the removable trailer hitch consumed 5.8 liters/100 km (driving at 100 km/hr in NL) which is over 48 miles/UK gallon; over 40 US miles/US gallon! OK this drops when I drive 130 km/hr in Germany or France but hey, not complaining - better than I was told I’d do by the dealer! Comfortable, roomy, good looking - I’ve had people come up to me and say “What’s this car? It’s really sharp, good-looking!” Hey, it’s not going to win a formula-1 race nor even challenge my 163 horse Volvo S60 diesel- but for camping, shopping - easy parking and “step-up” to get in (unlike our Mini Cooper where we had to ‘sink-down’ to get in) (still loved the Mini!) - OK this ZS is not going to be for everyone - but for €24,000 WITH the trailer hitch and all carpeting etc. etc. - it is about half the price of a Toyota Corolla; €12k less than a Toyota Yaris (which has manual driver’s seat; no manual transmission option, not panoramic roof that OPENS)- and about 1/3 the price of a much bigger Rav4 (I’ve had 2 Rav4’s and great car - but really getting €€€£££$$$ in Belgium…) Will this car last 10 years? I hope so - driving only about 1000 km/month - that’s not a lot! Hope you don’t mind that I made this a rather L-O-N--G comment but really pleased with our 2024 MG-ZS (white). Steve on the first day of autumn 2024.

    Ford, Nissan, Volkswagen Renault and Stellantis brands have all decided to neglect the lower end of the auto market and foolishly decided to set minimum pricing for their new models starting at £30-£35k. Its kind of the opposite of what BMW and Mercedes did in the 2000's when they moved into the lower end of the market to improve profitability. This has allowed the likes of MG and Chery to move into the lower end of the market which in the current cost of living crisis with (high interest rates) for the foreseeable future, is a huge market. The response by the legacy manufacturers is to demand tariffs on Chinese car manufacturers because the legacy manufacturers want to sell substandard products at a high price

    It seems to be a very fair deal and good value for money. For people who do not thousends or hundreds of miles every and want just to go from a to b, it is a competetive car for their budget.
    And let us face it: when KIA started with the 7 year warrenty back in the days, their cars weren't as nearly perfect as they are now!

    Only up and down adjustment in a car this size (or frankly of any size in 2024) is a bit poor, but otherwise seems like an improvement over the older model and the old model looked extremely outdated in and out pretty much at introduction so it was about time to get a new model. But I would be more interested in the Duster personally if I was going for a petrol car of this size.

  • @SuperMaverick09
    @SuperMaverick09 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I'm kind of astonished by reviews like this which seem set to highlight as much as possible wrong with the vehicle and as little positive as humanly possible. No mention of the exceptional hybrid drive system which makes even the Lexus NX Hybrid feel prehistoric (I drive a Lexus). No mention of the near 350lb/ft of Torque - which means that the near 200BHP (Cosworth/ST1) power is instantaneous at low revs...
    And why on earth everyone keeps comparing this to much smaller SUVs I have no idea. The Duster is nearly 10 cms shorter than this; The Renault Captur nearly 20cms! Why are we comparing Apples to Bananas? This vehicle is bigger than a Qashqai, with a 3rd more power and almost double the torque, better equipped and 2/3 of the price... More powerful and 30% more efficient than an Audi Q3 which is double the price...
    I test drove one of these at the weekend and quite honestly, much of the criticism feels like unconscious bias against MG (as a Chinese auto-maker?) which I personally have a very conscious filter to prevent; You never even showed the significant storage cubby under the rear floor; or explained why the luggage capacity is reduced (it's got an independent battery for a full hybrid experience from a 1.5 petrol engine and dedicated generator such that if you drive it carefully - it runs most of the time on motors...)
    Forget that it's MG. Forget that it's made in China. Forget the price. You should all be blind-testing these vehicles to make sure that your viewers and readers are get as objective and unbiased a view as humanly possible.
    Yes - I was a bit miffed it didn't have reach adjustment on the steering; but when it's £20K less expensive than the equivalent BMW (which has 15% less power, 40% less Torque) it's not a very reasonable comparison...

    It’s so funny that people commenting on reviews of budget cars always have a go at the reviewer for pointing out things that aren’t as nice as more expensive cars. It’s perfectly fine if you want something that gets the job done and you’re fine with cheaper materials on the inside, but it doesn’t change the objective facts that the materials used here aren’t as nice as soft touch materials. Doesn’t make this car worse if you’re fine with that, but in a world where cars are so similar, reviewers have to point out differences between cars. Saying something isn’t as nice as what’s found in a more expensive car isn’t the same as saying it’s bad and you shouldn’t buy it. Watching a video about a budget car should come with the expectation that the reviewer will point out what is objectively not as nice about it.

    • @mookyzook
      @mookyzook หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes but on the whole this was quite a negative review. To me he spent more time complaining about the things that let the car down than showing the positives. I had a Duster for seven years now I can’t say that I’ve spent a lot of time assessing how hard the ‘scratchy’ plastics are. My friends BMW of the same age has dirty smudges where he opens the doors and is slightly torn.

    Its strange, as soon as it's a budget car Whatcar reviewers always point out the negative points. If you look at independent reviewers, everyone says how good the car drives and its comfortable with excellent technology. There is definitely a pattern. These are meant to be genuine reviewers, but I think maybe reviewers are told what they can and can't say. I’m really confused about this car. Isn’t the ZS supposed to be more the size of a 2008 or a Captur? So now that it’s a similar size to a Qashqai, in the class above, what will happen to the HS? And will there be a smaller SUV model to fill the gap?

    • @SuperMaverick09
      @SuperMaverick09 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Every new model generally 'grows'. The HS is a beast; a beautiful beast nevertheless. The ZS is longer than the Qasquai; significantly longer and taller than the 2008; The ZS isn't quite the size of the 3008, but 60% more power and 100% more torque; is better specified and £14K cheaper. I was riding with a cab driver who had a new MG ZS, he said that the ride was really bad and it kept swaying on corners and he was very unhappy with the car. It was a 10 minute ride but I could also feel problems in the ride comfort. Low price is nothing if it doesn't offer value on quality spectrum. If you compare it to one of the Ford suvs, especially Kuga then the difference becomes palpable. I really want Chinese car makers to succeed and to send their German counterparts packing, European car manufacturers have looted us for far too long. Manufacturers need to bring back dials and switches for these key functions, not touch screens or even voice commands. They are simply too confusing and distracting and the regulators need to ban them. We get fined and points on our license for using our phones, but not for using a totally useless touch screens on cars. Mind boggling.

You soon get the muscle memory for the touchscreen menus you need to use. Are you saying it’s more dangerous to voice command a function than take your hands off the wheel to twist a knob or press a physical button, if so you are wrong and need to catch up with technology.

Yes - give me a return to simple buttons... Notice the new Mini's have lost all manual switches in favour of a big round screen...

    And they’ve made it even uglier with those fake exhausts. Ugh! I had a hire one recently and I could barely get a bike in the back with the front wheel removed whereas in my Golf WAGON there is plenty of room to spare. I hope they’ve improved the media system. It kept defaulting to AM radio instead of the Bluetooth connection every time you restarted the car and at a much louder volume. Terrible car, would have appalling resale value.

      Ah! As long as your driving position isn't behind you're exhaust I'm sure you'll get used to it! Yeah - it's not perfect; but for £22K new it's pretty good! Go test drive - I don't think you'll be disappointed... I was amazed!!!

    I much prefer the Dacia Duster which is much more beautiful and more rewarding.. the ZS is really very bland 🤦 you could take it for a car from the early 2000s..As much as the new HS 2025 is pretty but the zs is really bland especially the rear.. the ideal would be to have the hybrid+ engine in the new HS 2025 model but no the Chinese are too stupid to do that
