I hope this was helpful, let me know if you have any questions and I’ll do my best to reply! EDIT: Hey everyone it sounds like a couple people have had some trouble because their steering wheel only has 2 screws behind it instead of 3. If this is the same for you can you let me know? And if so, what year, country and even the options (push-button vs. conventional key ignition type, telescopic steering wheel or not, steering wheel color) you have if possible? I will update everything I can about the video if so to help out more people. Thank you!!
From Australia, Perfect Video replacement has taken less than ten Minutes, I did disconnect the Battery and the Torx was A T30, Model is a 2013 Sportage Platinum Cheers MB
Thanks for the video, I only have one screw so this steering wheel is different. It is a, shame nobody has made a video for people with one screw where the method is more removal of bits. You need to change your car as your video was great!!!
Thank you VERY much for that. I am in Australia & have a 2012 model. The only thing I found that some people might want to know is that my switch has glue or double sided tape on the back & I broke it getting it out (no problem as I was replacing it anyway). Have been without a cruise for about 5 yrs as I didn't want to take all the other gear off that was suggested in another clip. Once again thank you VERY much.
I have a 2012 RHD UK Sportage with conventional ignition that only has the two holes. The switch screw is a torx as well. Luckily people have already commented on two holes instead of 3 so next stage seems to be to remove steering wheel then work out how to get the rear shroud off to access the second switch screw.
Great video but you may be wrong about this method being suitable for a 2013 Sportage. My stock steering wheel only has 2 holes either side. The hole to remove the airbag with an M40 Torx is spot on. The other hole is to remove only one of the two torx screws for the controls. You have to remove the air bag, the steering wheel, the voice and phone controls and the the rear plastic cover, this is the only way you can gain access to the 2nd torx screw to complete the removal of the volume and/or the cruise control. A slightly longer process but one easily completed in the home garage so long as you are comfortable removing an air bag. Not sure why Kia changed the design I suspect it has something to do with safety, or possibly protecting their dealers source of income. Hope this helps.
Oh man, thanks for the info, I guess the 2011 steering wheel model is a one of a kind! 😅🤦♂️ I will update everything I can with this video to say 2011 only. Appreciate it!
I am seeing other 2013 Sportage's with the same configuration as mine (3 screws) but I want to get to the bottom of the reasoning so I can help more people like you! Can you let me know what year, country, and even options (push-button vs. conventional key ignition type, telescopic steering wheel or not, steering wheel color) you have if possible? Thanks!
That's answered my question as I only have one screw too. I got it all out and then got stuck with how and where is screw! Thanks for adding this how to as well in the comments
Great. Just what I was looking for. My cruise control set button stopped working. Now I can take a look what is wrong but i guess the whole switch needs to be replaced.
@@fixitryanofficial Hey Ryan I have a problem if you could help me out. Today I tried to remove the cruise control switch. Your version at 0:45 has three screws to remove but mine has only two screws (I own a 2012 model Kia Sportage). I unscrewed the two screws on the right side of the steering wheel and tried to remove the switch but I just could not get it to move. Is there maybe a hidden screw somewhere that I need to pay attention to before I could remove the cruise control switch?
Hey, so sorry! Another commenter helped me realize that the 2011 Kia Sportage steering wheel may be a one-off (no other year is the exact same as the 2011). He has a 2013 which may be more like yours, and he said this is how to do it on his: "My [2013] stock steering wheel only has 2 holes either side. The hole to remove the airbag with an M40 Torx is spot on. The other hole is to remove only one of the two torx screws for the controls. You have to remove the air bag, the steering wheel, the voice and phone controls and the the rear plastic cover, this is the only way you can gain access to the 2nd torx screw to complete the removal of the volume and/or the cruise control." So sorry about that. I hope this helps, and I'll be looking into updating everything I can about this video to saying: "For 2011 only." Good luck!

Very good video but initially I thought this was a 2014 Kia Sorento…having a hard time finding the volume control buttons part, everyone trying sell me the whole assembly for around $408! Any sources to share for parts?
So i have this same issue, as well as sometimes the volume control button fails to do anything or will occasionally activate bluetooth voice commands. Faulty switches or faulty clock spring? 2016 Sportage 2.4L AWD
Hey, I’m having trouble seeing it anywhere else other than straight from Kia parts websites. Try putting your VIN or car info in there and then searching “cruise control” or “cruise switch”. You could also try going to junk/salvage yards if you have any near you. Good luck! 👍
Hi, great video but is there a chance that you could accidentally set off the airbag in the horn? I am scared of this happening so a bit hesitant to do this. Thanks
If you want to be extra careful you can disconnect the battery first. I found this general tip/instruction you can follow: “The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) uses very large capacitors to store enough energy to deploy the air bags, for a short while after the power is lost, as might be the case in an accident. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait at least two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.”
Good question! If you want to take the utmost precaution, the following explanation I found should be best: “Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait at least two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.” FYI: “The SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) uses very large capacitors to store enough energy to deploy the air bags, for a short while after the power is lost, as might be the case in an accident.”
hi thx for the good video. is it the same for kia ceed 2015? my cruise control button is not able to be activated (nothing appears on the dashboard). did you think the kia garage could help with a computer reset? or my buttons are dead?
Hey, unfortunately it will probably be different for the Kia Ceed 2015 as the steering wheel looks very different. We don't have that model in the US! Sorry I'm not able to help more!
must i really remove the airbag? Can i just remove the 2 screws instead and then use a pry tool to remove it? I saw the video and its not clear if the airbag is connected to the controls. Am asking because i have no torx. Please let me know. Thanks
Yes, unfortunately (on mine at least) the airbag/horn assembly covers the left edge of the cruise control switch such that the airbag/horn needs to be removed to get the old CC switch out, and the new one in!
Hey some people are having trouble with theirs possibly being a different configuration and I want to try to help them out. Can you let me know what year, country, and even options (push-button vs. conventional key ignition type, telescopic steering wheel or not, steering wheel color) you have if possible? That would be really helpful! Thanks!
@@fixitryanofficial no, thank you, sorry for not provide you with more info. Greetings from Argentina. If you need anything else feel free to ask I try to help in any way posible.
Is this a common problem on this car? I have a 2012 model where cruise control does not work. But I can't say for sure that it's a problem with the buttons. How can I determine this?
BTW: If I look at Wikipedia the 3th generation is 2010-2015. So 2016 must be a newer model I think? I'm saying this because you state that it's 2011-2016.
If your cruise control doesn't work at all (only switch on and off but you can't set it to SET or RESET) then this could also be a failure of the upper clutch switch as it was with my car. The spring in the switch was broken so the switch always stayed in the "pressed" status when I stepped on the clutch. The system detects that together with the lower clutch switch and for safety you can't activate cruise control. I repaired my upper switch and all worked fine again.
Yes those were similar to my symptoms! It just started working intermittently only, sometimes I would have more luck if I pushed harder. Makes sense then that my problem was probably the contacts slowly wearing out on the switch.
