This was so helpful! I have found a ton of books that I “thought” would work, and find that they won’t, but did find that I have some that are going to be perfect! So thank you very much!
Valerie, thank you so much for this great video! The information was very well presented and I LOVE all the examples of books in each category. I've only made one journal but it's good for me to know I have books from your list!!!
thank you for the suggestions. I just purchased a few of the National Audubon Society Field Guides and Golden Guides. they're gorgeous. I cannot wait to devour them.
I am so glad that I found this video! I never did think to get books like these for journaling! I just bought 3 old yearbooks at a thrift store with over 400 pages and it's hardcover 🥰😍 I do feel a bit bad because I'm turning them into my own books, but I feel like if they had a mind of their own, they'd be happy I'm giving it life once more :") Instantly subscribed! This will be my first time junk journaling so I need all the ideas and inspiration I can get 🤣🖤
Thank you so much and Welcome to my channel! 🤗 I’m so glad that you are here! Those old yearbooks are a treasure trove and I have a few myself 😉 Hope you find lots of fun books while treasure hunting! Happy crafting! 😊🍁
Thank you for sharing and explaining why you suggested these books and magazine. And thank you for addressing that I should not feel bad in using these books but upcycling is giving them a second chance. That was a relief. Also addressing how to look for antique vs. Vantage books. Very valuable feedback. I so appreciate you. Thank you. I discovered your channel yesterday and have been loving every video. You inspired me to get started. Easy explanation. Thank you❤❤❤💕🙏
How am I just seeing your lovely comments now?? Thank you so much for your kind words! 💕 Welcome to my channel! 🤗 I am so glad that you are feeling inspired! Happy crafting! ✨
My husband works maintenance for the local Goodwill stores in my area. As for cutting up old books. Goodwill gets a lot of books donated. Many are sold. However, many go unsold. Those books then get recycled. They are taken to a recycling plant to turned back into some sort of paper product. So I don't feel bad to find a book sitting on the shelf Buyingi it and cutting it up to use in junk journaling.
Great ideas! Also good advice about Google before you cut the book up. I found a Golden Book for 5 cents that turned out to be rare and worth $25. You never know what you might find in the wild!
I rarely find field guides in thrift stores here in Canada, when I do they're always the ones with glossy photos without an illustration in sight :( I keep hunting though! Those Ideals magazines are triggering (or trying to) some childhood memories. I don't know where I've seen them but I'm certain I have before somewhere... Old encyclopedias are also a great resource for illustrations and interesting things to cut out. Sadly, they're also difficult for me to find in the thrift stores for some reason, at least the ones near me anyway.
Thanks for watching and for sharing! Great tip about encyclopedias! I hope you have better luck finding some good books! 📚 I’m curious, do you guys have yard sales and moving sales in Canada?
Thank you for a lovely informative list of possible books to incorporate into journal making....many of what you mentioned I have also collected, but now I have more to search for....i really enjoyed this viceo! Thanks again❤
Thank you for sharing the info because sometimes it is hard to judge which is the best books. I have some of what you showed, but I still have trouble which papers to put in my journal. I just don't know how many book pages / papers to use. Mine just doesn't look like the people I watch on videos journals. Maybe it is how I try to decorate them. Thank you and God Bless. 🥰🐞🌹
Thank you, Rose Marie! You made some excellent points! Typically, I decide how many book pages to put in a journal based on these factors. What type of a journal it is going to be (mostly for writing or inspirational and heavily embellished/decorated with only some space for collages and notes). Next, consider your journal’s theme. If it’s a Victorian journal, I wouldn’t put a book page with a 1950’s dress fashions or 1980’s home decor, but poetry, sheet music, birds, flowers, some dictionary pages and even embroidery pictures will look great. Another thing to keep in mind is your color theme. For example, if you are working on a journal with a neutral color palette, you don’t want to include pages with any colorful illustrations (with an exception of your “accent color”, if you choose to have one). And, most importantly, it is a GOOD thing that your journals don’t look like everyone else’s! That’s what makes them uniquely yours! Uniqueness is exactly why we prefer handmade journals over the mass-produced boring black and white notebooks! Good luck and keep creating! 🙌🤗🌺
