Great video! Love how you went with a speed paint plus method. So many people burn bridges when they speed paint leaving no room for improvement. Your approach is very nice as it lets the painter choose what they want to invest in the mini. Great job!
Well this set of minis was always going to be my next project but WOW!, your technique is very inspiring. For someone who has been with this hobby for nearly 30 years your work is really inspirational.
You can fill in the holes after you prime it, and since it's a matt varnish, you can paint over it. Those spots might look weird in this case though, because you're using a wash instead of paint. I fill in gaps that I missed all the time, right over the primer.
When you're doing the transition on the horns in stage 2, what is the lighter grey you're blending with? Sounds like "Slanish grey", which isnt listed in the paints section..Thanks for the tutorial. The finished piece looks excellent.
@@HeroesBosses actually, in this case I am lucky because I disagree with most of your choices (my preference is better;)) but that slime looks damn great! :)
Great paint job! I disliked the various different fixed colors, its nice if you have some specifics, but this is just useless if you dont have exactly this specific color as referene. Also colors are alot different when watching a video and on different displays. In general viewers should be inspiried to paint something similar, like I will, but should not be incentivized to buy more colors (Sidenote: I could totally understand some product placements with affiliate links to help you finance making this videos) A mention of colors and how you can achive a similar result with less specific colors is way more helpfull, especially for beginners. Still I really enjoyed the video keep it up, the enresult is stunning and helped me catch some details that I would have missed!
Hey Dennis - thanks for the feedback. Actually, no one sponsors me except a handful of fellow painters on Patreon. The colors I use I picked because those were the ones I was able to get my hands on at the time. If you have a different range of colors, I would be happy to tell you the equivalent colors from other ranges. Also there are websites that people have created that convert a lot of these colors for you. www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Paint_Range_Compatibility_Chart
It creates the illusion of shadow on the underside of your model's details, making the details stand out more. You don't have to use Nuln Oil - but it's a great "go-to" shade color for quick and easy shadows. A lot of experienced painters will paint in the shadows manually with a darker color paint, or use an ink.
I used a satin varnish on the entire thing (Aegis Suit from Army Painter). But you can then use a matt varnish on top after that dries to places like the yellow arm - or anything that you don't want to look shiny.
I wish they didn’t come in that awful green wash, it ruins the otherwise awesome and scary designs and just makes them hard to look at, all of the details lost in a sea of unsightly, cartoonish shrub colour. Oh well, at least it’s an insensitive to get them painted.

Thanks Rob :) I wasn't sure if people would like this new approach or not. I plan to do it in more videos in the future. Thanks for the feedback!
@@HeroesBosses And did I mention those freehand hazard stripes? Putting the Boss in Heroes & Bosses!

Thank you very much Shane! It says something about the hobby doesn't it - that it's still enjoyable after 30 years :)
I love how you didn't just go all black and instead gave her some color...but nothing bright to take away her menacing look!
Black was tempting :) But I thought it might be cool to have them stand out a little more on the game board.
Great work! Freehand hazard stripes? Ah, my old arch enemy, haha.
I know - it's so hard to keep those lines straight :)
very relaxing video and excellent piece of art. thank you for sharing
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :)
Nice work with washes. Thanks
Thank you!
Great stuff! Not gonna lie though, i held my breathe the entire time you painted the danger yellow floor lmao
I think I held my breath while doing it :)
Got excited about hearing zerglings at 02:13.
Played starcraft I presume? 👌
Yes - Starcraft and Starcraft 2 :) Great games!
Brutal!! Awesome!!! Maravilloso!! Genial!!
I guess that means... you like it? :)
Unfortunately I already primed without doing the trick to fill out the holes, should have thought about that. :(

Yes - Slaanesh Grey from Games Workshop. I'll add it to the list!
Nice video.
What is the music in the background? It seems somewhat familiar...
It's synthwave. I got it from the free music library on TH-cam. It's possible you heard it in someone else's youtube video!
The audacity of this guy, always forces me to buy more paints!
Haha - you can substitute all the colors! ;) Mine are just my preference, not necessarily the best... jk, mine are the best ;)

@@amorbavian Yeah I would definitely recommend the Nurgles Rot. It looks really cool when you thin it down and splash it on the little guys.

What is the importance of nuln oil

the queen is kinda hot ngl
I'm sure to the male aliens, she's a knockout! :D I mean, look at all those babies!
Watch out boy, she'll chew you up.
Which varnish did you use?

Could Tanned flesh from army painter be used on the mouths of the little ones?
Yes, absolutely! The "fleshy" parts of the aliens is really just personal choice. Tanned flesh should contrast fine with their body color.
