At age 66, I have been a vegetarian for 13 years and a vegan for one --I do not miss animal products at all. We are lucky to have so many vegan alternatives these days.
If you eat plants and veggies what are the animals going to eat. Each animal eat different things. So if you eat up all the veggies then the animals are still going to die but slowly. Did you think about that and also it’s called the food chain.
I'm 73 and have been vegan for almost 35 years. I am a retired vegan chef, cookbook author (6 books and many magazine articles), and culinary instructor. My only regret is that I didn't go vegan earlier. I love whole food plant-based dishes but am not fond of processed vegan "meats" as I do not miss the taste of meat and generally avoid highly processed foods. I recently underwent open-heart surgery to repair a leaky aortic valve (caused by genetics as my family has a history of heart problems). Fortunately I had no blocked arteries nor did I need a bypass because of my lifestyle of exercise and plant-based food. I never had any warning signs of heart disease, no chest pains or tightness, no shortage of breath. I exercised almost up to the date of surgery. My doctors told me I did so well in recovery (it's been 3 weeks since the surgery) because of my clean diet and lifestyle. My nurses told me I was the healthiest heart patient they had ever seen. Getting stronger every day and enjoying my grains, beans, fruits, and veggies.

I did not do it for health reasons although that is definitely a positive side effect; my already low cholesterol went down even lower and have never been on meds. I did it because of animal cruelty; livestock are treated very cruelly, from birth to slaughterhouse. The guilt has bothered me for decades but when I thought of giving up chicken & beef, I did not know what there was to eat. I could not imagine feeling satisfied with just vegetables although I am a huge salad and veggie eater. And the thought of eating tofu was scary, lol. (I tried tofu recently; not my cup of tea.) When I started seeing plant-based proteins show up in the grocery outlet where I get all my food and supplies, I thought now is the chance to try it. I'm very impressed with the plant-based "beef" and "chicken". The only downside is the high cost. I'm planning on sticking with plant-based permanently, especially if I can get it at outlet prices. Huge price difference from the grocery stores. I don't understand why the high cost for something made from plants. It's like the bamboo toilet paper and paper towels that ads are trying to get us to buy. They say it is cheaper than using trees and bamboo grows so much faster, etc. If that is the case, why are they charging so much for it? If they want people to switch, it has to be affordable to do so.
I’ve been vegan for 2 1/2 years now and transitioning to the lifestyle was the most transformative and beneficial decision I’ve ever made for myself, it’s made me more compassionate, healthier, and in the process has reduced my impact on the planet and is far more ethical. And it opened me up to a whole new way of thinking about food, made me curious and excited to try new things, to cook more.
Not that many people would buy meat if they realized how much it actually cost. If the u.s. government didn't subsidize meat and fast-food the cost would be much higher and that's how it should be. You realize how much water it takes to raise a pound of beef? If you don't maybe you should look into it. And with the continued water shortage we really should be talking about our water consumption and how much meat production goes into consuming water that could otherwise be used to drink.
Makes you wonder why veggie products are so much more expensive AND why people are willing to pay more, eh?? With beef, you have to raise the crops to feed them first, THEN raise the beef.
@@madhabitz Well, they aren't all more expensive. Sure, if you buy quinoa and high dollar beans but not for regular food items. Spinach is still $5 for a pound. I got 10 pounds of organic spaghetti for $10 and 25lbs of organic oats for $25.
I've been vegan 20 years. It's been helpful, but I do find that I need to take certain supplements. I've been getting some tests done to see what my biological age is compared to my chronological age and I'm 5-10 years younger than average, depending on the test.

I am the accidental vegetarian. I was raised on a cattle ranch. My dad raised organic beef before the term was used. People lined up at our gates, knowing if they didn't get their order in they lost out on some fantastic meat. Why? Because we raised much fewer cattle. As I aged, I found I didn't care for the taste of meat from a grocer or restaurant. It didn't taste the same as what I was raised with. I then looked for ways to excite my palate with spices and veggies. My life is so much better for it. Cheese enchiladas, veggie chili, veggie lasagne. Endless salad and egg dishes. I'm blessed and praying more of us move toward a plant Diet.
Wow, I am in love with TabithaB now. This story is great. I think one of my natural fave foods is Falifal in Pitas. Not trying to be meat but tastes so great like some meat.
Yeah, I grow up in Guyana and my grandparents are from India. Some of my family have been vegetarian for generations and people in Guyana and Americans in America use to laugh at them that they are eating grass, who’s getting the last laugh now?
Chickens are one of the most abused animals in the world - chicken/egg industry regularly practices grinding up males chicks alive, since they're male and can't lay eggs. Animal agriculture is so rife with unimaginable cruelty, it would make your jaw drop and weep. In the US, animal ag industry is trying to strength Ag-Gag laws further to keep there 'farming' practices as opaque as possible by lengthening jail sentence for many years for exposing their cruel and inhumane practices. Animal agriculture is intensely resource heavy - not only do they produce more co2 emission than all transportation combined but they're the main drivers for rainforest destruction & species extinction, water contamination the list goes on. UN's IPCC report has done many years of studies on the impact of animal agriculture on our planet and has definitively urges people to go plant-based.
Finally! A plant based diet is being focused on. The human body was created to be vegan. Genesis explains it all. Hopefully, someday eating dead, decaying, bacteria laden rotten flesh of animals will be a thing of the past. Kudos to Miss Tabitha for stepping up and speaking out about the plant based diet.
Yep, I love my bean burgers....but if someone needs a "stepping stone" to going plant-based, then so be it....but you want to ultimately get to the bean burgers....MUCH less proessed!
Okay, first misconception here is whole food plant-based and vegan are the same thing, they’re not. Veganism is a lifestyle and a philosophy geared to preventing the suffering, torture and killing of sentient animals it also tries eliminate the industrialization of factory farming and seeing animals as only a commodity instead of a life. Yes, the WFPB diet does through default eliminate all animal products in one’s diet but doesn’t necessarily eliminate all animal products like leather or fur from one’s life. Just because someone is vegan does not make them healthy, there is plenty of vegan junk food out there. Despite claims that Beyond Burger and Impossible Burger are plant based they are not a healthy alternative to beef and are not considered dry us WFPBV to be a whole food, they are processed, high in salt and fat. And then there are people like me, I am 100% whole food, plant-based vegan. I believe in the vegan philosophy at the same time believe that the key to optimal health is to eat no processed food. I eat no added fat, sugar or salt and only consume whole grains, legumes and plants, everything I consume has 100% of its nutritional value. If I eat a burger it’s made from bean, whole grains and veggies on a whole grain bun of my own making.
I’ll stick with carnivore diet. Reversed my hypertension and lowered a1c and insulin. Gained muscle. Lost fat. Cured skin issues. Fixed leaky gut. “ aged backwards”. Lowered inflammation. Arthritis barely exists. Thick hair grows like crazy now too

I have ordered daring food “chicken” from them directly and it’s incredibly delicious! In fact I’d venture to say it’s the best replacement chicken I’ve ever tasted! Can’t wait to see it show up in the stores.
I understand why people don’t eat meat and are against it but why do they want their vegetarian food to look like meat (shape) such as hamburgers, steaks, chicken etc?
In December, 2023, I was told I am obese. I am prediabetic and high Blood pressure and cholesterol. Started walking 5 days a week and went Plant Based. Went to the doctor on Friday. No Blood pressure, No cholesterol. Pre Diabetes is gone. Lost 32 Pounds. I am not 100% where I want to be, still have nerve pain, still want to lose another 30 pounds. I was 232, I am 199 now. but man.... Plant Based is the answer!
If you’re exploring plant based lifestyle please don’t hesitate to look further into ethical veganism. Our cruelty and disregard for animals can’t help but spill over into exploitation of our planet and fellow humans. Have a happy healthy Thanksgiving, Christmas, and a blessed New Year!
Making all that alternative meat might save on greenhouse gases but what about all that PLASTIC packaging! Does it really help the planet? And frying it might not help our health either. Plant based should be planet based!
Agreed, we need fruits and vegetables to be subsidized like corn, dairy, and soy are and get fruits and vegetables cheaper...basic staples...not fake, possibly GMO, "meats"

I don’t mind eating plant 🌱 based foods, but I do have an issue with foods created in a lab or factory, not cool. Do I believe we need meat 🥩 yes 100%. Some needs to be in our diets, and a lot more fasting. The problem is that we eat to much 3 ,4,5 times or more a day.
Absolutely. Three of the best things we can do for ourselves is to eliminate foodlike substances, fast more often, and eat 0-3 times a day. No snacking unless you count the snack as one of your eating times.
If you eat packaged, processed foods, you are eating 'lab' made foods b/c packaged foods are composed of many chemicals that are created in the 'lab'. Cultured-Meat is made like beer, it uses fermentation to grow the cells - which starts out with a cell that's sesame seed size from an animal - as the world gets warmer, half the world will have massive food shortages, some countries experience this already. Also, scientific community are in consensus and have definitively addressed correlation with meat eating and instances of various different diseases - there are studies that go back to 1890's and thousands of studies to now - yes some studies are questionable in design but there are literally hundredths of studies that are very well designed, peer reviewed & published - there are lab studies, randomized double blind placebo controlled studies and long term (multiple decades) correlative, with large data sets (like the Nurses Study) studies
She is a lovely lady and am very happy that a vegan lifestyle has worked out so well for her. I tried it, but didn't suit me. But am open minded to it all the same.
The problem with mainstream media is they can make anything seem trite. Kudos for the subject, but the formulaic delivery is better suited for rescuing a cat from a tree.
When i was 4 i heard the term vegetarian I told my mom i wanted to be one and she informed me that i would no longer be able to eat meat I stopped being a vegetarian at that moment lmao
Because veganism has a stigma, and "plant-based" is more comprehensive. Veganism focuses exclusively on ethics, whereas plant-based can also focus on health, fitness, sustainability, etc.
Best way to preserve the climate is not having kids, and only eating plants. That middle aged dude shouldn't have kids in a world that's still decaying

And the best part, I no longer have the guilt of participating in the suffering of non-human animals that I don't have to consume. :)
Over 6 years for my husband & I. Best decision we ever made.🌱🥰
I am the accidental vegetarian.
Tabitha has never been to a black SDA church. Most SDAs are veget/vegan, but it is not required. It has been encouraged for about 150 years.
Wow, I am in love with TabithaB now. This story is great. I think one of my natural fave foods is Falifal in Pitas. Not trying to be meat but tastes so great like some meat.
I could eat a falafel sandwich with hummus and vegetables, drenched in tahini sauce daily without tiring of it!
Aunt Tab 💕💗💕 as I call her. Love her. 💗
Yeah, I grow up in Guyana and my grandparents are from India. Some of my family have been vegetarian for generations and people in Guyana and Americans in America use to laugh at them that they are eating grass, who’s getting the last laugh now?
Most likely you great grand or great great grand. Not a lot of Indian Guyanese are vegetarian.
Some of my family and relatives are still. Some for religious reasons and others for personal health.
@@rasat4829 I’m Guyanese and greens up part Hindus.
My taste for meat has really diminished. I will have chicken at times. No turkey for me this year, either!
I absolutely love Tabitha Brown and have been following her videos since she started her vegan journey. She’s fantastic.
Yes! You don’t need meat or engineered faux meat to have delicious nourishing food.
Yep, I love my bean burgers....but if someone needs a "stepping stone" to going plant-based, then so be it....but you want to ultimately get to the bean burgers....MUCH less proessed!
@@valerietomsic8454 I regard them as an infrequent treat; as a health conscious omnivore treats his occasional indulgence of choice.
at 15 i’ve been vegan for almost 6 years, i have no regrets at all, cleared up my eczema and asthma, and brought me lots of yummy meals 🥰
Great story!!!!
Amazing show!!!!
And beautiful animals!!!!!
Plant centered way of eating isn't a "trend" if it has existed since humans have become human.
Great segment!
This video very specifically talks about plant-based eating, not veganism. They were pretty spot on.
Love her ❤
I am not a vegan .
But I love her personality.
Consider going flexitarian!
@@matthewware8973 Isn't that just another name for a normal diet?
animal cruelty is a reason for being vegan- not just health and the environment. there should be no hierarchy of animals. we are all animals
Eat vegetables and fruit…don’t hide it. I like it!!!
I give this message my seal of approval 👍
Don't need fake meats, need the Farm Bill to make fruits and vegetables CHEAPER.
Eat clean Vegan no processed
@@OrbitalTrails-x5s you have to supplement heavily just to make that possible
@@Juggernaut-fg2up B12 only, because i run and cycle.
@@OrbitalTrails-x5s what about DHA, taurine, carnosine, creatine?
They don't need to be cheaper. We need to end the handouts for animal agriculture that artificially keeps prices low
I’ll stick with carnivore diet. Reversed my hypertension and lowered a1c and insulin. Gained muscle. Lost fat. Cured skin issues. Fixed leaky gut. “ aged backwards”. Lowered inflammation. Arthritis barely exists. Thick hair grows like crazy now too
That diet is not sustainable. Only meat and dairy/eggs. No plants at all, no herbs, no plants at all.
Good for her...she rocks!!!
Both.. Looks delicious 😋
Watch Dominion(documentary), Forks over Knives, Seaspiracy, The Game Changers, Earthlings, and Gary Yourofsky's The Most Important Speech You Will Ever Hear(on TH-cam). Go vegan 💚
I have ordered daring food “chicken” from them directly and it’s incredibly delicious! In fact I’d venture to say it’s the best replacement chicken I’ve ever tasted! Can’t wait to see it show up in the stores.
Happy Thanksvegan, everybody!
Yay Tabitha !!!!
I understand why people don’t eat meat and are against it but why do they want their vegetarian food to look like meat (shape) such as hamburgers, steaks, chicken etc?
Maybe a good question to ask is why hamburgers don't look like cows.
I don’t understand it either. The imitation meat tastes like crap and is very expensive.
Vegan for the animals and the planet! 💚
I love this woman!
i love tabitha brown !! 🥰✨👑
Tabitha! Oh, she's great. :)
I want to like her but, something feels very inauthentic . I am glad veganism is becoming more popular
Perhaps you should take a moment and check out her TH-cam channel and Social media accounts. Auntie Tab as we call her has provided a more flavorful and fun platform to incorporate plant based meals into your lifestyle. I know I have because of her and the recipes she shares. She also shines the spotlight on Vegan restaurants in cities she and her family travel to. Finally that spice collaboration with McCormick's is 🔥🔥🔥
I can picture Oprah interviewing Miss Brown for a vegan diet segment episode on Oprah's Own channel. Kindest Regards, Aiden Alamo
Orca Whalefree
Love you, Miss Tab!
Go vegan for the animals for the planet for your health !
I normally swap out meat for veggies, but not interested in eliminating meat altogether...yet.
Is there an "alternative meat" that ISN'T made from soy. I have a person in my household who can not eat any soy or soy based products.
I'm not aware of many soy-free alt meats. Your best bet is probably replacing meat with cauliflower, chickpeas, beans, and mushrooms w/ a good amount of spices.
Oh wait... Jackfruit. The texture is pretty close to meat. It's good in slow cooked recipe or stir fry.
@@christopherfoley4071 Thanks. We like chickpeas so that can work.
@@christopherfoley4071 Jackfruit, eh? 👍 I was curious what to do with that funky looking thing. Thanks!

plant based meat options with NO SOY please!
Plant based is simply the best better then all the rest
I love Tabitha.
Of all the dietitians this is the one you chose
I don’t mind eating plant 🌱 based foods, but I do have an issue with foods created in a lab or factory, not cool. Do I believe we need meat 🥩 yes 100%. Some needs to be in our diets, and a lot more fasting. The problem is that we eat to much 3 ,4,5 times or more a day.
So don't buy cultured meat. Simple.
And yes, many people eat too much food. They have to feel "full" all the time.
I've been a vegetarian for almost 30 years and we don't need meat to survive. In fact, after all this time, seeing meat gives me the gag reflex.
Who knows what the orange flat circle veggie is at 2:22? Maybe it is not a veggie?

She is a lovely lady and am very happy that a vegan lifestyle has worked out so well for her. I tried it, but didn't suit me. But am open minded to it all the same.
The problem with mainstream media is they can make anything seem trite. Kudos for the subject, but the formulaic delivery is better suited for rescuing a cat from a tree.
When i was 4 i heard the term vegetarian
I told my mom i wanted to be one and she informed me that i would no longer be able to eat meat
I stopped being a vegetarian at that moment lmao
Why not just say Vegan, its meaning is clear. I don't understand what is with 'plant based' and 'plant forward'. Why not just vegan?
Because veganism has a stigma, and "plant-based" is more comprehensive. Veganism focuses exclusively on ethics, whereas plant-based can also focus on health, fitness, sustainability, etc.
Best way to preserve the climate is not having kids, and only eating plants. That middle aged dude shouldn't have kids in a world that's still decaying
Sorry but cauliflower is wet paper taste to me.
Ripe fruit is superior
Compared to tofu, cauliflower is steak.
I’ll eat it when I can afford it
plant based diet > meat based diet
