  • For the first time ever, a confirmed wild Ross's goose has been spotted in Europe. The bird, identified by its ring (the standing bird in this video), was seen accompanied by a second unringed one.
On September 18, 2023, the two Ross's geese were first observed in Europe in Støreshøgda, Norway, in the company of Pink-footed Geese.
Part of the inscriptions on the scientific ring has been deciphered in Norway, confirming that the bird was ringed near Nunavut, Canada.
After being seen again in Denmark (on October 7, 2023) and at various locations in the Netherlands (on October 8, 2023), they flew from Dutch Cadzand into Belgium.
The two birds were found again the next day (on October 9, 2023), in Stalhille (West Flanders) among a group of Pink-footed Geese.
Since then, they have been spending the winter there up to the present day.
If you look closely, you can see the scientific ring on the right leg of the bird at the end of this video.
