The Confederate Flag should have it's honored place in history not to be used as a sign of hate or obliviated from our history books. Stone Mountain Park is a place set aside as a memorial to what our ancestors fought and believed in. You can not change history, but learn from the past. If we were to banish the confederate flag from sight, what would be next? The Christian flag? maybe even the stars and stripes of old glory. Leave the flag and park alone.

Small world. It is funny how History was changed during the Civil War. I am Memphis burned and raised. My dad had a Master's in American and World from Memphis state and he knew differently. There was Northerners who where killing blacks. Let me help out here. When the slaves were forced from their homes they followed the Union Army around for food. Union Troops made folly of them and Union Troops pulled up pontoon bridges so the slaves wouldn't follow them. Slaves drowned trying to swim the rivers to keep up with the Federal Troop's. So Lincoln came up with a plan to put slaves in Detention Camps where over 25% died from disease and starvation. You can find that information out in the Memphis Newspaper Archives that was called the Commercial and later changed to the Commercial Appeal. My dad taught me about the Corwin Amendment and the Original Emancipation Proclamation read on September 22,1862. Lincoln stated that if the Southern states would come back to the Union by January 1, 1863 they could keep their slaves. Slaves would only be Emancipated in the States that continued to rebel. It sure is convenient for History not to teach those facts? Lincoln didn't invade the South to free the slaves. Your so smart and educated send me one piece of evidence that Lincoln loved the slaves and invaded the South to free the slaves. It doesn't exist. He repeatedly said his war was over a Tax Rebellion and a Tax Revolt. Not one word of freeing the slaves in his War Proclamations and his letters and Addresses to the Congress. Also you don't know much about Lincoln's first Inaugural Address that he says he supported the Legislation(Corwin Amendment) which was voted on during the last days of the Buchanan Administration to help Lincoln keep the remaining Southern states in the Union. Lincoln offered the the Corwin Amendment two weeks before Beauregard fired on Ft. Sumter. If the South would Ratify the Amendment it would have secured slavery in the Constitution. What about that? You can easily Google the Original Emancipation Proclamation and the Corwin Amendment. Also Lincoln said in his Address that there doesn't have to be bloodshed if the states paid their taxes and duties. That was a threat. Also there are letters Union Soldiers sent home taking about how terrible their Army was including the rape and murder of innocents including rape and murder of the slaves. Lincoln said in his fourth debate with Douglas that blacks were inferior to whites. They shouldn't be allowed to live with whites or marry whites. They shouldn't be allowed to vote or serve on Jury's or hold Office. Lincoln supported the Illinois Constitution that didn't allow blacks to travel through Illinois much less live there. Have you heard the ignorant say Grant fought to end slavery and why are they pulling down his statues. Here it is non those Pundits know Grant owned a slave. He lived in his Father in Law's Plantation community called Whitehaven in Missouri. His wife's slaves worked the land. Also you don't know all of that did you. Also Grant told Lincoln I thought the war was over slavery I would give my sword to the other side. You see I am very educated myself and I know the truth you learned lies. White Southerners had lived with blacks for generations before the war. At the time of the war 5 Northern states didn't allow blacks in their states for any reason. Seems I know much more about the Civil War than you can imagine. Union Soldiers in Florida were dressing up like klansmen and were murdering blacks and the whites in their community that were defending them. The former slaves were their family members. When the local community heard about a plan the fake klansman were going to kill a family group of blacks and whites they set a trap. They killed everyone of those Blue Thugs and under the sheets were all Blue Uniforms. During Reconstruction the North had to separate the loyalties between Black and white people in the South. They sent teachers that helped by lying about the Union who hated blacks. My son just showed up from out of town. When you want to learn something I will be happy to teach you much more. I have a Bachelor's Degree myself but like I said my dad taught me more than a small minded man can absorb. Also the Statue of Forrest illegally taken down was partially paid for by black citizens of Memphis. They loved Forrest. He hired them for Engineers and Architects, train Engineers and Conductors. Many of the former slaves were highly skilled tradesmen. Forrest Funeral Procession was over two miles long and over 3,000 blacks came to pay their respects to the Great General and man that had done so much for them. Forrest gave his slaves their Freedom Papers 18 months before the end of the war and they all stayed. It was their home. Also Forrest said of his black riders that there were no better Confederates and fighters than his black riders. 9 were in his personal bodyguard and would give their life for Forrest. You forgot about Lincoln sending boat loads of black folks to the caribbean in an attempt to end the war. Just dropped them off with no support and many of them went to starving.

This is one reason some of the Southern people wanted to make sure they were educated before they would free their slaves. Lincoln also put them.in Detention Camps where 25% of them died of disease and starvation. Happy Easter!

I was born in Tampa, but didn't learn a lot about the details of the civil war, it's kind of been chapter of history I was disinterested in although it shapes much of our world today. I'd love to know what resources you learned from and what where I can find them. Please and thank you

You can get a lot of information from the Abbeville Institute. You can Google Lincoln's First Inaugural Address, You can Google the Original or Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. To get some good info you really should try a Public Library to Reseaech Things. When you Google certain Important things Google Ommits so much important stuff because it doesn't want you to know what Lincoln actually said and did. Research His Letters and Addresses to Congress. Google doesn't have much really unless it is a love affair with Lincoln. You can Google Dilorenzo's Lectures on Video. Same with Bennet. The Congressional Library of Congress is a place to go. Once you start looking one thing leads you to another. A good book is General John Scales Battles and Campaigns of Nathan Bedford Forrest. There is a video of him being interviewed about the book. Sherman and his Army were passing Stone Mountain with Northern Newspaper Men. On top.of the Mountain was a Confederate Soldier yelling and screaming at Sherman. Sherman told send the toughest Soldier we have up there to get that rebel down from three. They called big Pete from Minnesota. Big Pete went up and very fast Pete was beat up and thrown down the Mountain. Sherman very upset sent ten soldiers to get that Rebel off the Mountain. Before you know all ten came rolling down the Mountain. Sherman getting very upset sent 50 Soldiers to get the rebel off the Mountain. Next thing blue uniforms come flying of by the buckets. One Union Soldier was still alive and he carried to Sherman and the Soldier said it's a trap. There is two of them.

Let me give you a example of a Honourable Army. When Lee marched through Pennsylvania the Southern Armada was over 50 miles long. Thousands of Pennsylvanians came to see the tiny. starving and barefooted Army that had been kicking their boys ass for two years. The Southern Army didn't burn or pillage one home. They didn't rape and murder defenseless Pennsylvanians. They did take Live stock. Lee ordered them to leave in mule or a Ox so they could still farm. Not one Pennsylvanian home was pillaged. Many of Sherman's Officers and Soldiers stood guard over some Southern homes to keep thugs from their own Army destroying and killing innocents. One Union Soldier said they were the biggest unruly and Ungodly Mob that ever existed. He wrote how ashamed he was and now he understood why the South wanted to leave the Union and he didn't blame them. Also, According the extensive new studies have found our that The Confederate Army killed 3 to 1 more than the Union Army. Yes the North won but the South was wading in Union Blood.

I still fly my Georgia flag on my house with the Confederate emblem. That's the flag I grew up with.
I used to be freaked out by Confederate flags vut it's just like the Duke boys lol. I do know that heritage is very important in the South and I think everyone should respect freedom of expression. I feel that if a black person showed up here they would be treated with respect if it was given.
