    I think that one way to overcome procrastination is by adjusting your perspective on a task. For example, if you're faced with the scary challenge of studying an 800 page book, telling yourself how difficult it is won't change the book's content. Whether you perceive it as easy or hard, the book's content will remain unchanged. Eventually, you'll have no choice but to complete the task, so it's better to approach it with a positive mindset. A negative mindset won't help you at all; it will only worsen the situation you are in.

    People have to understand that there is no such as a “smart” person, and that NO ONE likes sitting down everyday to do homework and actually try to perform it qualitatively. The only smart people in this world are those who truly want to follow their goals and are willing to take the serious steps towards them.

    my personal experience :
    i think that watching vids that teach you how to study is very helpful and really game changing but i often find myself overwatching these type of stuff without making any actual progress , i have found out that this is just another form of procrastination and a quite scary one cuz you will eventually forget all of this tips and techniques if not used on the actual studying. this is a trap that i have fallen victim to.
    i think the reason behind this is that studying and everything in life require effort u can learn how to study smart and have most fascinating study methods and techniques and resources but you wont get anything done without investing time,effort and somethimes comfort into it

    No way the Justin Sung video dropped 🔥🔥Fr I love the guy he teaches a more nuanced way to learn, for example I doubt lots of people knew about higher order learning (which is what he is describing in the video). It is noteworthy to to depict that Amy described how you should question commonly accepted advice with her math concept analogy. 😁

    Hey Amy. He has a course to teach his study skills. It’s very hard to get good at his skills. Ive been in it since late 2021. His mindsets and philosophic pov was were I was coming at when I commented on your video on hard work. He seems legit, but his skill set is very hard to mastery. Literally the hardest thing I ever had to cognitively learn lol. Thanks for the Video.

    • @wamyy5
      @wamyy5  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      I see, and I agree with you! Ah, to be honest, when I react in the moment, sometimes I don't realize things like you just said (hence it being a real "reaction" haha). I think that what he says is good in theory, but it just occurred to me that it's hard to know whether chapter 10 is better than chapter 5 if we haven't already gone through everything. I think at the end of the day like I stress in my videos, we want to only take away the helpful concepts for our situations. So while we might not have had to study 1,000 pages in 3 days ourselves, we can still use his idea of creating "anchor points" and then filling in the details. I tried to present personal accounts of how I did that in practice, and my way is different from his!
      Hope this clears things up. I will indeed stick with my approach to providing tips from my personal experience rather than as a "guru" :)

    Hey Amy, thanks for all your videos. Truly appreciated. I took 2 years off after undergrad having been in STEM and just returned to school for an engineering masters. It's been an adjustment coming back to school, especially because I have been a half A/half B student my whole life. But I do like engineering and want to shoot my shot for a PhD, or at least keep the door open if it's of interest. I tried to incorporate Justin's videos at the beginning of the semester to make a "map" or to "cram" a bunch of information upfront, but that didn't work too well for me. It just felt like way too much to do all at once and I ended up not doing too much of it. So far I've incorporated your advice about buffer time, seeking help from others, moving on from math probs relatively quickly to look at other examples or come back later, developing early awareness on homeworks, and doing homework by moving back and forth between the textbook and the problems. Personally I came back to school with lower confidence in my technical abilities since it's been awhile and since the last years of undergrad experienced decent grades but I never really felt like I was learning or enjoying the content. I think this was because it was also quarter system and a lot flew by too fast. Combined with lacking efficient study skills at the time it just made the work less enjoyable, which was a shame because it was interesting stuff. My only goal rn is to enjoy the learning while getting solid grades, and more importantly to do it from a systems mindset. When i do implement your tips they have worked quite well, though sometimes I still procrastinate or become distracted lol. For me the biggest thing so far has been leaving problems and coming back to them or asking for help, and making sure I have the time to do so by starting early. Especially coming into the year with lower technical confidence this has been really important for keeping up my motivation enough to stay engaged and interested and not become too frustrated to the point of disinterestedness. Ngl I messed up a midterm by studying too much, not sleeping, and then doing terribly. Noted. Will keep tuning in and hopefully will see more progress this year! You're channel is a gem!

    Not me realising this is exactly how I do last minute studying 🙊 (except ofc my textbook ain't as lengthy as 900pgs)
    Looks like I was just studying efficiently, yet I was always called "talented smart" by my classmates and roommates. The "never seen her study much yet got good grades" person. I was starting to let these thoughts get to my head, and slacking off even more than my usual bare minimum of studying.
    Good thing this video came up my feed. Thx Amy! This feels like a wake up call for me not to get too full of myself.
    I was just fortunate my lazy self used an efficient study method, doesn't mean I could still get good grades if I completely slacked off.

      @wamyy5  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I really love your comment. Thank you for sharing! This is a super insightful perspective, and I'm so glad my video helped you realize this. In a way, you could say that people who study smarter are "smarter," but not because of their natural math/etc. ability. That's why we need to continue putting in the work, just in a more efficient way :)

    First of all, thankyou for being honest and making these videos, and secondly, I cannot find any comments which are directly praising Justin's video and i can not find a critical analysis from the comments either, but your review and the advices I heard from him today, are pretty spot on so far... And I will apply it, as i am in class 9, we have books with lots of practice questions at the back of the chapter, I am focusing on marking the answer of those questions in the page of that chapter, highlighting the answers i need, and then understanding the answers, and then instead of memorising the answer, i write what i learnt from that answer... Well i am researching all ways of studying😬 but yeah, i am there, It's still better than reading EVERY SENTENCES IN THE THICC BOOK😤

    I say because I watch a lot of videos in youtube, that Justin is a unique person that like integrate all the techniques that like all the youtubers talk, but not so much like that. It's like some of those techniques but improved and new techniques but it's more like a study system that integrates task managment, procrastination, note taking, spacing, retrieval, interleaving, and more things around the study. I was in his course, At the begining of his course talk about task management and procrastination, and those videos are easy to understand. if you investigate there are videos that talk about urgent tasks or burn the boats as he put in his videos those concepts, so if he puts at beginning things that appear in various videos in youtube is not so difficult, because It's like the videos or techniques you often see, but together. And if you didn’t understand the theory you only have to ask to the coaches. The causes of why I didn’t progress a lot are or I didn’t apply the techniques, or My english is not very good to watch the videos or understand when the coaches talked in like mettings. So I will learn english first and then start again the course

    Hey Amy, a bit unrelated, but I was wondering if you ever struggled with perfectionism? I think typically in uni, it's not really feasible to always cover everything for every exam (most of the time?). I think strategizing what to study is a huge part of doing well, but how do you let go of the anxiety of not having covered a bit of material? Or am I wrong in my assumption and you should cover 100% of the material all the time?

    Hi Amy, I wanted to tell you about my situation. I am in my Junior year of High School. I didn't participate in any ECA in my previous 2 years because my high school didn't have any. I also didn't have any sort of passion. I developed a passion towards programming 5 months prior to my 10th standard board exams. So, I couldn't take part in any competition to win awards. I maintained a perfect GPA in my freshman and sophomore year. I switched my high school recently and now I have access to a lot of ECA. I joined the IT club today. I was wondering if I will be able to build enough stats to be a good applicant for colleges. I am very committed though. I am taking initiative to start a business too. I started volunteering at an animal shelter. But I didn't even participate in a single ECA in my freshman and sophomore year So, my question is, will the admission officers acknowledge that I couldn't participate in ECA because my high school lacked the facilities?

    so i have this jibbery mind idk . i have ADHD so it is very hard to focus on one thing and i tend to procastinate more than a usual kid does . so i found out that what i hear and understand at that point is the knowledge that is gonna stick with me . but because im lazy asf i dont usually write notes but instead i do write funny things related to that topic teacher says so when i just reviewing i can remember what he/ she said more than a regular note . but idk maybe i'm just wierd 🥲 and also i don't like have a regular schedule { bcz usually my daily schedule never changes as an introvert i dont have to waste time on going out🤥 } but i do a quick check on my day how it went at night before going to bed so if i missed something i write it in a sticky note near anything i regularly see so i can start from that and complete what i have to do at that day :}
