    In this video, I help anyone that is new to the ordering process if they want to order a Stratocaster in parts. Please leave a comment if you have any questions about the Warmoth or Musikraft website ordering form. I tell you a few parts that I didn't specify at first. You have to be meticulous and know what you want before you start the process. I try to give pointers on what not to forget to order like I did initially.
    The body is by Warmoth because they can make a left-handed body. That lead time was 14-1/2 weeks. We went with Musikraft for the neck because I had experienced the quality of their work in two other necks I had ordered. They also had the maple cap option which was apparently what Jimi was using at Woodstock. Their customer service was great. Warmoth's customer service was also top notch. Skip was helpful at Warmoth and Scott was helpful at Musikraft.
    We were trying to reproduce the white Strat that Hendrix used at Woodstock which may have been a 1968 Strat with a maple cap neck, no skunk stripe. We were aiming for a vintage look.
    *TUNER UPDATE* The F-Tuners are on Amazon. Order the 10mm hole size for F-Tuners if you get these. a.co/d/3KVvN8I. I changed my mind about installing them. The tuner post holes would have to be reamed or drilled out to 10mm and the mounting screws were precariously close to the edge of the neck and I did not want to take a chance of splitting the wood after a successful Kluson install. Klusons have a smooth 15:1 gear ratio vs. a 14:1 on the F-Tuners. The F-Tuners seem a little cheap actually and they were only $31.90+tax, made in So. Korea.
    *Pickup mounting hardware* The mounting screws and rubber tubing are provided. I bought six vintage correct conical springs also.

      I really love this neck. I knew it would help someone because I didn’t order a neck for years because I was afraid I would make a mistake and not get the right thing. My friend got full 7-1/4 radius and he loves it too. We’re waiting for his second neck to be done soon. Then I think I will order a third one.

    This is cool I’m actually smack dab in the middle of my very first custom strat build .. the build is Strongly inspired from Jimmie Vaughan’s beat up white strat from his T Birds era .. it’s going great so far .. good luck with your build

      I always loved Jimmie’s old white Strat. I think it is one of the first that convinced me that vintage Strats must be better. It sounded so cool. Most of that is Jimmie of course. I think you can get real close with the quality parts they have nowadays.

    when building a strat the neck must be tight against the long side of the neck pocket the shorter side gets any shims if needed/ bigger tip is I use two different types of bridge mounting screws, fender screws will be different thickness compared to Callaham
    when screwing in the bridge screw , I check to be sure the screw is not binding the bridge plate then move to the next screw , I have used a belt sander down when needed to thin the screw diameter down if it did bind usually those strats were not pre drilled/ if you do wind up with a non drilled body I always add a thin piece of carboard so the tremolo has a thin gap instead of sliding it up all the way before marking the holes/then use different size bits along with a spring loaded center punch to indent in the center of the marked hole placement

    Nice job on this. Im wanting to do a right hand reverse trem bridge pickup & neck. The hardest thing im trying to find is a RH strat body with the left treme routing in it that isnt a arm & a leg. I've seriously just considered buying a raw hardtail strat body & getting a template to do the trem myself. But again .. when your on a budget its not always such a simple thing.

    Why did you use Klusons, in late 1967 Klusons were dropped and replaced with Fender keys (Schaller).

    • @millstap
      @millstap  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good question. I couldn't find them in left handed but I must not have searched correctly because I just found them on Amazon. I'm going to get them and see if Nic wants to put them on. The problem is now the inline holes are there but the F-Tuners may be big enough to cover the holes. Thanks for reminding me. I hope the bushing holes are the same size. They may be a little bigger.

    • @millstap
      @millstap  ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, since I couldn't find them at the time of ordering the neck, we had to choose 11/32" tuner holes for the Klusons. I see now on Muskrat's form that it is a 10mm hole for the F-Tuners so I will need to drill them out if Nic decides to install them. I get them tomorrow. Thanks again.

    • @millstap
      @millstap  ปีที่แล้ว

      Also real pleased to see they still have the Safe-T posts.

    • @millstap
      @millstap  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will find out today if the F-Tuners will fit with the same Kluson hole spacing. I know I will have to enlarge the holes, but after researching, some say those larger collars on the F-tuners won't fit together without overlapping if the holes are not drilled for their spacing. There is a little bit of extra space between the Klusons so maybe that is enough extra space for the F-Tuners to fit.

    I’m surprised that you didn’t get a Fender reproduction pickgaurd. I don’t think you can do better for the price.
    There’s guys who CNC really good ones that use celluloid nitrate, but you can guy a Mexican Strat for what they want. Of course I have one on my Olympic White 59 reissue.😅
    BTW, Antique Electronics Supply has J taper CTS pots now. It’s what Fender used from the Brownface era to the late 70’s in almost everything. They read almost identically to the pots in my 66 Super.
    They’ll probably sort them if you ask.
    I’m dying to see this guitar!

    • @millstap
      @millstap  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’re already at around $1,600. I think it’s easier to vintage’ize it. We could have gone with a relic’d paint job from MJT but we’re starting out new.
