The theory we came up with back in the day for why Celestia was always pink is that technically she *is* pink, just a really light pink. Compare her to Rarity or other white ponies and she's a different shade and has pink line art. Probably on her official write up that goes between the cartoon and toy departments she's listed as "light pink" so that's what they mix up in the factory.

I found a pretty high quality Queen Chrysalis plushie at a flea market a few months ago - her proportions were great, all the details and eyes were embroidered, she was all the right colours...but she was bald. There was no indication she'd ever even had a mane; no ripped seams or places where it looked like someone had removed her locks. just a big, round, bald head. obviously she came home with me.

13:25 Celestia's coat isn't white. It's pale pink. But it's a VERY pale pink. I think a lot of manufacturers didn't want to replicate it, so they just went with the lightest pink they already had on hand
it could also be due to the fact she has a notable pink outline as well, she's an extremely subtle pink tone that's washed out by the outline color itself but then the manufacturers just? ignore it and goes for the full pink even if it doesnt match the outline color and goes into a darker magenta/purple kind of color

It's so funny because Celestia is a very Whitish pink. She looks white next to everyone but next to Shinning or rarity (who changes between white and light gray) it's shows more.
My theory with them using pink instead of white is just that white plastic can yellow very easily, is easy to stain, will look grubby faster, etc. Plus, if for children's toys, white is made with titanium dioxide, which innit exactly something you want a kid putting in their mouth. White plastic in general is kinda rare. You more often will get off-white, and instead of going for cream, they likely decided to just shift to pink.

Heavily contributed to the meme of AJ and Rarity being background ponies. Also, whilst not cursed in their final form, Build a Bear ponies look cursed in their unstuffed form. About 10 years ago I went to a Pony Convention where the local BaB had set up a stand, and next to the table they had black bin bags full of unstuffed Twilight's and Dash's.

There actually is a line of humanoid mlp figures by kotobukiya that nails the human versions pretty well. Kinda wish they went with human designs based and styled around the original mlp crew instead of the equestria girls stuff I found on store shelves. Also the long pillows are pretty common in Asia either as leg support or back support!
The MLP bishoujo figurines! I accidentally saw them some time ago and was quite impressed how good they looked. Strangely enough the set also has a figurine... of Hatsune Miku and her ponysona :D

i think a part of the reason why celestia often times was miscoloured as a pink is because if you look closely at a lot of the art of her (official art) she is a very pale pink, and also the pink outlines on her can also trick the eyes to see her as more pink-ish. that doesnt excuse her being a full on pink tho, at least they could have made a very light pastel pink that is mostly just an off white

The reason Princess Celestia toys were pink is because Hasbro REALLY REALLY wanted a pink mascot for MLP, much like how Pinkie Pie was for G3. It's a rumor, but I heard Lauren had to fight tooth and nail for Twilight to be a lavender purple and not bright pink. It also shows in that Luna toys are always a light purple instead of the dark midnight blue color she's known for (looks too 'evil').
The Twilight rumor seems unlikely since Twilight Sparkle's design is from a G3 pony who was purple (Twilight Twinkle.) Also Lauren Faust originally envisoned her as a reintroduction of G1 Twilight, who is pink. But yeah, spot on with the Princess Celestia stuff . . . They wanted a pink alicorn to sell big toys of.

Gosh, I was obsessed with Bella Sara when I was younger!! I still have all my cards and some of the little flocked blind bag figures. Probably a couple of the big figurines too. I was so sad when the website went down; I loved collecting all the horses and decorating my room and playing all the mini games. (The fireworks one was always my favorite)
I also forgot to mention the reason they make mlp merch so bad is the fact, companies thought that “toys are just for kids” and that kids would not noticed the difference between the show and merch. I have another theory about Celestia's color scheme. White plastic tends to stain and discolor over time VERY easily, and even Gunpla fans recommend you paint the white parts of your bot a slightly grey off-white to avoid yellowing over time. Could that be a factor in making Celestia more pink?

They had storages full of these toys before they even knew what the cartoon was gonna look like. The toys always go into production first and they choose things they already have the mold and materials for on stock.

As an owner of the original Rarity EG doll, I would like to point out that it didn’t have feet. I wanted to switch out the shoes only to realize it had these little ball numbs that connected directly to the boots. I also had some sort of twilight with wings you could press the get a voice line, and I don’t think I could get the shoes off to see what it had.
As an owner of the original Twilight and fluttershy EG dolls, the sound the shoes made when they got detached were the most satisfying thing little me could hear

I'm pretty sure it's the fascination of it, but also the collector value. There's G1 ponies who have incredibly wrong colors due to factory error, or because it's a version released only in one market, and because it's rare it's worth a LOT as a collection piece. Usually if you see these pop up on eBay and it goes from some lower price and the price goes up a couple hundred dollars, it's because of that factor.

It's so funny because Celestia is a very Whitish pink. She looks white next to everyone but next to Shinning or rarity (who changes between white and light gray) it's shows more.
I physically recoiled when that robotic Twilight came on the screen. I cannot beLIEVE someone said "perfect, that's the look we want" to that thing.
My theory with them using pink instead of white is just that white plastic can yellow very easily, is easy to stain, will look grubby faster, etc. Plus, if for children's toys, white is made with titanium dioxide, which innit exactly something you want a kid putting in their mouth. White plastic in general is kinda rare. You more often will get off-white, and instead of going for cream, they likely decided to just shift to pink.
Makes sense if it wasn't for the fact they've made Rarity toys since the start and she's always white

Also, whilst not cursed in their final form, Build a Bear ponies look cursed in their unstuffed form. About 10 years ago I went to a Pony Convention where the local BaB had set up a stand, and next to the table they had black bin bags full of unstuffed Twilight's and Dash's.

There actually is a line of humanoid mlp figures by kotobukiya that nails the human versions pretty well. Kinda wish they went with human designs based and styled around the original mlp crew instead of the equestria girls stuff I found on store shelves. i think a part of the reason why celestia often times was miscoloured as a pink is because if you look closely at a lot of the art of her (official art) she is a very pale pink, and also the pink outlines on her can also trick the eyes to see her as more pink-ish. that doesnt excuse her being a full on pink tho, at least they could have made a very light pastel pink that is mostly just an off white

The reason Princess Celestia toys were pink is because Hasbro REALLY REALLY wanted a pink mascot for MLP, much like how Pinkie Pie was for G3. It's a rumor, but I heard Lauren had to fight tooth and nail for Twilight to be a lavender purple and not bright pink. It also shows in that Luna toys are always a light purple instead of the dark midnight blue color she's known for (looks too 'evil').
The Twilight rumor seems unlikely since Twilight Sparkle's design is from a G3 pony who was purple (Twilight Twinkle.) Also Lauren Faust originally envisoned her as a reintroduction of G1 Twilight, who is pink. But yeah, spot on with the Princess Celestia stuff . . . They wanted a pink alicorn to sell big toys of.

Gosh, I was obsessed with Bella Sara when I was younger!! I still have all my cards and some of the little flocked blind bag figures. Probably a couple of the big figurines too. I was so sad when the website went down; I loved collecting all the horses and decorating my room and playing all the mini games. (The fireworks one was always my favorite)
Holy shit I had one of the bella sara board games that neither me nor my mom could figure out how to play!! Brings back so many memories!
I also forgot to mention the reason they make mlp merch so bad is the fact, companies thought that “toys are just for kids” and that kids would not noticed the difference between the show and merch. They mostly do it for easy money and didn’t seem to care about good quality. I was definitely one of those kids and looking back it all makes sense. 🤦♀

Omg this unlocked my memoirs of being younger and seeing princess Celestia toys and always be suuuuper confused. I remember being like “that looks literally nothing like Celestia??? She’s borderline Pinkie Pie pink??? And her hair isn’t that color?? Like at all????” I would always double check the packaging to make sure it was Celestia and not a completely different character.
As somebody who used to make non-traditional OCs, I always had to commission my own stuff.
People would be like just use the basic stuff in baton to it but I would just design it from scratch.

I remember there was a moment when the Equestria Girls dolls came out when I didn't generally have complaints, but I didn't like that they had cutie marks on their cheeks. I disliked it so much that I got my dad to help me write an email to some contact we found about how I didn't like it and how I had a better suggestion, which was that the dolls could have small stickers in their sets that girls could attach to their cheeks if they wanted to. A lady responded really nicely, saying that it was a good idea but she wasn't the one to send this suggestion to. She told us where to write about it but we would have had to write it in english (not our first language) so we procrastinated on it so long that in the end we never wrote there

I have another theory about Celestia's color scheme. White plastic tends to stain and discolor over time VERY easily, and even Gunpla fans recommend you paint the white parts of your bot a slightly grey off-white to avoid yellowing over time. Could that be a factor in making Celestia more pink?

Rarity toys have always been white, so they could just do it, they just wanted to cashgrab with stupid antiquated ideas
They had storages full of these toys before they even knew what the cartoon was gonna look like. The toys always go into production first and they choose things they already have the mold and materials for on stock.

As an owner of the original Rarity EG doll, I would like to point out that it didn’t have feet. I wanted to switch out the shoes only to realize it had these little ball numbs that connected directly to the boots. I also had some sort of twilight with wings you could press the get a voice line, and I don’t think I could get the shoes off to see what it had.
That's how Bratz dolls are too- they don't have feet either.

I'm pretty sure it's the fascination of it, but also the collector value. There's G1 ponies who have incredibly wrong colors due to factory error, or because it's a version released only in one market, and because it's rare it's worth a LOT as a collection piece. Usually if you see these pop up on eBay and it goes from some lower price and the price goes up a couple hundred dollars, it's because of that factor.

We had VERY SIMILAR EXPERIENCES. I did the same thing with the magnet forcefield thing, and had both Rarity and Hidden Treasure! I moved into my own place for the first time recently, but I will never EVER let my parents throw away my beloved G3 pony collection

When I was younger I had one of the few accurate Celestia plushes but due to being a baby who knew nothing about merch I destroyed it
my sister and i had the first line of equestria girls dolls (i had fluttershy and they had applejack), and honestly i think those looked better than the later releases. i also remember the ears making it hard to brush their hair and they had no feet, literally just small circles on the ends of the legs that clicked into their boots. i still think the dolls are pretty lol
