I was not prepared AT ALL for the wave of nostalgia that hit me when I heard your booktalk intro music - suddenly it’s 2012 and I’m a pre-teen obsessed with YA books and your channel again 😂

you crying in the end is so relatable!! I also cried soooo much. its definitely the best TJR book (even though I have only read Evelyn Hugo but can't get better than this!!! for sure) also!! Bowe!!! He is the cutest!! love them together!! love him! also cried during the times he took care of her towards the end 😭😭😭

Omg a booktalk! This made me so nostalgic. 😂 This book was in my top ten last year! Loved the commentary on the way ambitions women are viewed by society and the media. Such a fantastic story!!

This was my second TJR book (after Evelyn Hugo) and I love them both so much I have to read the rest soon. I loved the characterization of Carrie and the story but I really loved the descriptions of tennis, as someone who plays it was incredibly accurate--not just the mechanics, but the feeling of playing, the smell of the ball and the court, the mental game, all of that was written so well. I did wonder how much of that impact would be dulled if you didn't play so I'm glad to hear it still hit.
I don't think she's based off of one character specifically, but there are definitely elements of at least Serena and Venus Williams and Martina Navritilova in Carrie. Reading this gave me the same feeling of wanting to get back on the court that watching Wimbledon or the US Open does, and I just loved it so much!
Seeing you had a booktalk gave me the push I needed to read it, I always love hearing all your thoughts!

I need to know what deity TJR made a bargain with for this book to come out the same week Serena William retired. Reading it while the news were all about Serena taking her final bow was AN EXPERIENCE! Furthers my theory that TJR has been basing her characters on women in pop culture that made a mark. Carrie on Serena, Daisy on Stevie Nicks, Evelyn Hugo on Elizabeth Taylor, Nina Riva on Pamela Anderson. And it’s amazing how you can’t tell until it clicks because they don’t read like that, they’re fully their own characters.

this is one of my all-time favorites, I lovvvved it 10/10. I read Evelyn Hugo 2 weeks ago, but I didn't like it very much (it was my first TJR book), but now I think I'm gonna read the rest of her books. I loved this one a lot because I resonated a lot with Carrie Soto, her personality is so much like mine, and I always enjoy reading books with a great female lead who is like me.

i love your booktalks and i'm so happy you decided to do one about this book !! i found carrie soto to be an absolute delight to read, as i love tennis and have been watching it for years, and i also love a character driven novel. this was the first taylor jenkins reid book i've read and i'm excited to check out her other works. happy you enjoyed it !! :)

Yay another book talk! Ive been following for years and love your books.
As for Carrie Soto is back. I loved it! I got to watch a special interview about it with Taylor Jenkins Reid back in November and it gave me a new perspective on her books.
It's probably #3 between the 4 Taylor Jenkins Reid books I've read.
    My current ranking is
    1. The Seven Husband's of Evelyn Hugo
    2. Malibu Rising
    3. Carrie Soto is Back
    4. Daisy Jones and The Six

I just started and finished this book in a day since I saw you post this. I loved it so much! There’s something about Taylor Jenkins Reid’s characters that is just so compelling. I love that they’re all flawed but you still fall in love with them. I love that they have well rounded, real flaws instead just being like “oh she’s clumsy” like some other books. Really enjoyed your book talk as always!
Ps: I really loved this kind of hybrid reading vlog/ book talk type of video. Would love to see more. Maybe chain of thorns??

As someone who is biologically femme who grew up playing sports I related to struggles with the ambition and intensity that Carrie had (not to nearly the same level obviously, but I did understand her mentality). Her evolution to becoming who she is at the end was truly something to behold. ❤

    1. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
    2. Carrie Soto is Back

    6. Forever, Interrupted

I’ve read six of eight too!!!! Haven’t gotten to forever interrupted yet! I read the first chapter and immediately had a nightmare about a loved one getting hurt so I put it down for another less anxious time in my life XD

    • @NatReads
      @NatReads ปีที่แล้ว

Fun fact about Forever, Interrupted for when you get to it, Taylor Jenkins Reid loosely based the premise on her own relationship with her now husband. I read it in in the Acknowledgments. Apparently, they also fell in love and married in a few months. Now, they have a daughter together. So, for next time, it might comfort you to know that while the novel deals with sad and heavy themes, like grief and death of a loved one, the true story, if you want to call it that, is a happier and more uplifting one. Just thought you’d like to know.

Spoiler: I WISH in the last match, nicki would have requested a medical delay (parallel to Carrie’s Russian opponent years before) KNOWING she could’ve exploited the injury and increase the chance at a win OR win against the BEST Nicki. THAT would’ve made it felt more full circle to me.
