Super information. We'll be on a cruise ship and will be completing this process shortly. I believe, but am not certain, that the application window opens six months before your intended arrival. No need to wait until the last minute. I've also seen it recommended by RCCL that your selected entry date should be a couple days prior to your actual arrival. Start the 30 day clock a bit early; there's no harm and it protects everyone from an itinerary change.
Thank you for the information, Originally I am a bit nervous since the Evisa document I received did not show the entry port. And after I watched this vid I am relaxed

Many governments put the onus on airlines to check that passengers have correct visas for entry. If a random check is carried out by passport control and the passenger does not have the correct documentation then the airline is fined heavily and the passenger must be on the next flight out of the country returning them from where they departed

@@mitchandjan Yes it can confuse first time travellers.Take Cambodia for example, you can fly into Cambodia without any paperwork and you are granted a Visa, where as Vietnam you need the approval letter, which will be converted to a Visa when you arrive.. Both countries grant E Visas.
Yes, we really have to be on the ball moving around SE Asia and remembering what documents need to be in order, for which countries. For Malaysia, we had to apply for the entry card, but specifically within 3 days of travelling and not before. Then we had to show proof of onward travel (at least as Canadians).
*why would anybody check in for a flight and still not have a Visa for that country? I have been to 36 countries and I have never tried anything like that*
I believe that is referred to as a “multiple entry 90 day visa” (rather than a single-entry). If you use the link to the official website, you will find the multiple entry visa as well. Thank you for letting us know that this was helpful! To answer your questions as best we can: 1. No onward ticket required for Vietnam. 2. We purchased our tickets first before applying, so that we knew our dates for the evisa. 3. Hello! And thank you for your feedback and questions!! 1. Port of entry is not a problem. It’s your “intended” port of entry on the application, but we understand that you can enter at any port with an approved visa. 2. This one depends - if your entry date on Visa is AFTER the date you plan to arrive, that would be a problem. However if you will enter Vietnam AFTER the date shown on your visa, you are ok. We are not experts and can only advise based on our experience and the helpful comments of other viewers. But we hope this helps!!! Thank you so much for watching! You will love Danang!! Another viewer had told us this as well. That is not made clear on their website (in our opinion). Part of the reason we made this video is because we feel that we are pretty experienced at deciphering the rules and requirements around various aspects of travelling to different countries, but we messed up heading to Vietnam! Hi there! If you are simply transiting through for a connecting flight, and you have the boarding pass for your connecting flight, you will not need an eVisa.
You can apply for the eVisa BEFORE purchasing your flight. However, then you must make sure that you don’t end up wanting to fly into the country BEFORE the date that you indicated.
Hi . My evisa application status is Amended Application. I was asked to re edit the application twice but still i have no idea what’s the wrong i did filling my application previously. I’m planning to re apply a new e visa application. Is it okay ? Will it affect to my new application because previously application is still in amend application status .
Hi there, sorry to hear about the troubles with your visa. We really are not experts and have no idea how to guide you in this situation. Best of luck getting approved very quickly! 🙂
Hi I have a question: in September I want to go on five months vacation to south east Asia ( Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines) , I live in Canada, should I book my return flight from Vietnam ? First I want to visit Vietnam. Or if I book my return flight from Bangkok would be an issue by Vietnam? Please guide me, thanks.
We did NOT have to show that we had flights or otherwise leaving Vietnam when we entered, so return flight form Bangkok should be no issue for entering Vietnam.
Hello! Thank you for the help! Quick question, when you say online check is not available and has to be verified by airline staff. Does that mean you were not able to online check-in for your Vietnam flight? Meaning when you landed in Madrid, you had to go thru immigration and re-check in again to get it verified? I'm traveling to Hanoi in a few months, but transiting thru Singapore. So I'm curious if you guys had to do if you're transiting thru an airport. I hope that makes sense!
Great question!! If everything is in order, and visa is processed, you will get both boarding passes and you will transit through Singapore no problem. They will verify when you check in for your first flight only, so you can transit through normally. We had to go through immigration and check in again in Hong Kong because the visa was NOT processed when I checked in for the first leg of the flight. I hope this clarifies! 😀
If you are asking how you pay for the eVisa, the payment is done by credit card when you click “submit” for your application. Payment will have to be processed before your application is officially submitted.
Hmmmm....not sure why either. The only thing we can think of is if you have a VPN set on your computer. If you do, turn it off when you try to process payment. We have had issues once in a while with processing a payment while VPN is on. Hope that maybe works!!
@@mitchandjan so I tried again and it went through but I’m still unable to submit my daughter‘s e visa application. It declined while trying to make payment just like it did to mine. I’ll try again tomorrow. Not sure if I was supposed to add her to my application since she’s just 8yrs old🤦🏽♀️
I applied for a visa and put Da nang as my port of entry but I’m changing my destination to another city. Do I need to reapply for another visa or it doesn’t matter?
We cannot ever guarantee anything, however, we do not believe you need to get a new visa. When applying, you have to enter your "planned" port of entry and exit. We did notice that on the approved visa, the port of entry and exit is not even listed. For these reasons, we don't believe that you should have to apply for a new visa. Hope this helps!!
If I'm going for just 3 week, should i just still put the date I enter Vietnam and then 90 after that date or just put the actual date im leaving after that 3 week period.
I applied online soo many times but kept getting denied saying I need to put the location of the hotel which I did many times . Should I put it In Vietnamese?
@@mitchandjan I see so it’s intentional then ! Because they kept repeating the same thing on and on even after I changed it , I applied for multiple entry 90days
We are certainly not experts, but my first thought is you have to get a new e-visa unless your re-issued passport is IDENTICAL, but i am guessing it would have a new issue date, expiry and/or number?! Good luck!
Hi. I have my child travel with me. I know in the form, there's a section for children under 14 years old. After I put in my kid's name/gender/date of birth, 2 photos...do I need another separate form for my child? my child is 11 and has their own passport (maybe they should have their own application) Or the information included in the form for myself is sufficient. When I pay, I should pay $50, instead of $25? Thank you.
Hello, thanks for your questionn, however we have no experience with applying for a child, so we don't feel that we can advise you properly. Maybe another viewer can help you out?! Sorry, that we cannot be of more assistance. Good luck.
Hi 😊 I'm going to vietname in 2 days but my passport got destroyed. How did you reapply for the visa in the airport? I dont have 3/4 business days to reapply for evisa in this official page. How can I do it in a few hours? Thanks
We did not reapply at the airport, Jan's Visa was actually processed by the time we arrived in Hong Kong, so we simply had to rebook our flight that we missed. There are a TON of sites available that can process your visa in 15 minutes to a few hours or one day. It will cost a lot of money, but worth it to save your trip!! Just google Vietnam e-visa and lots of sites will come up. Sorry, we cannot recommend any one over another. Good luck!!
Hi sir, just a quick question. I have only given name as Syed Razi Faheem on my passport but no surname. When i applied the E Visa for vietnam, i typed Syed Razi in given name and Faheem in surname. Now my name on visa is Faheem Syed Razi. And my name on passport and airline tickets is Syed Razi Faheem. Will that be an issue at checking in or immigration from the point i am flying ? Thank you so much in advance 😊
Hello! Although we cannot guarantee anything, we can certainly tell you that we were also concerned when we received our visas and our surname was first, followed by our given names, exactly as you describe. Our visas indicated "Full Name:" with our surnames first. Although, your case is slightly different, if the visa was approved, you are in all likelihood just fine. They are reviewing your passport when they look at your application, so if you have received an approved evisa, I am sure you are fine. In our experience, when we arrived at immigration, they did not even ask for Jan's evisa, so we assume everything is linked in their system once they scan your passport. Hope this helps!! This seemingly simple application, just isn't always as straight forward as one would hope. Cheers!
Thanks for the reply, you are a star. My only concern is the very first immigration and boarding from point A, contacted airlines, but it wasnt any help.
That is what we did when applying. Just BE CAREFUL that you account for any time/date change between Vietnam and where you are leaving from. Be sure you are entering the LOCAL VIETNAM day of entry. Hope this helps! 🙂
Hi mitch and jan, would the process be the same for me if I am a American citizens and Vietnamese citizens that live in the U.S? I have both passports and moved to America in 2004 and deciding to go back for the first time next year. Would this evisa hold the same clearance/approval when landing in vietnam vs as if I were to send a mail application at one of the Vietnamese embassy in the U.S to get a stamp before landing in vietnam?
Really great question, however we are definitely not qualified to answer that or even give guidance on that situation. Good luck and enjoy heading back to Vietnam after 20 years!!
@@JetWabi we had our tickets first. We would definitely recommend at least looking at flights to make sure that the dates you are looking at are affordable and available. The evisa application does state "intended" date and "intended" ports of entry/exit. I believe you don't need to have tickets, but we would recommend having tickets first (if you feel confident that you will get your visa lol)
What if I don't know what hotel I'm going to be staying at till I get to Ho Chi Minh City and I put down a hotel that I might use. Is Immigration going to contact the hotel to confirm that I have a reservation?
Hi there! Great question! It is fine to put the hotel that you PLAN to stay at. They will not verify a reservation. Enjoy your travels! Thanks for watching. Cheers!

It would appear that you do, although we are not experts on this. We would direct you to this information that we found - this is an excerpt from a website. We will also link the site where we found this: BASED ON THE LAST PARAGRAPH, IT SEEMS YOU WOULD NEED A VISA (as you are collecting your luggage and will therefore have to go through immigration in Vietnam) "...And except for those eligible for visa exemptions mentioned foreigners can transit in Vietnam without a visa if both following conditions are met: - Their layover in Vietnam is less than 24 hours, AND - They stay within the transit areas during their layover. Notes: the transit areas are decided by the agencies competent to manage the international border gates. It is the transit area at the international airports if you are traveling by air and at the international seaports where your ships are anchoring if you are on a cruise. Otherwise, in case your layover in Vietnam is more than 24 hours and/or you are leaving the transit area for taking luggage for the next flight or a short sightseeing tour in the city you are transiting, you NEED to obtain a visa..." Hi. Can I apply for the evisa before buying my air ticket? Or do I have to apply for evisa after buying the air tickets ?
You can apply for the eVisa BEFORE purchasing your flight. However, then you must make sure that you don’t end up wanting to fly into the country BEFORE the date that you indicated.
@@mitchandjanthank you for the information ❤
Hi did you have to show proof of return ticket at the airport or when you enter Vietnam?
Hi there. We did not have to show proof of return flight to enter Vietnam! Just that darn evisa is needed! Thanks for your question!! Happy travels!!
Thanks again and have a great time.
Did you use a photo app for the visa photo same with passport??? If so what app or website did you used?
Great question! No app needed! We just took a picture with our phone.
How about the payment process?
If you are asking how you pay for the eVisa, the payment is done by credit card when you click “submit” for your application. Payment will have to be processed before your application is officially submitted.
I followed these steps but payment couldn’t go through and I’m not sure why🤦🏽♀️
Hmmmm....not sure why either. The only thing we can think of is if you have a VPN set on your computer. If you do, turn it off when you try to process payment. We have had issues once in a while with processing a payment while VPN is on. Hope that maybe works!!
@@mitchandjan so I tried again and it went through but I’m still unable to submit my daughter‘s e visa application. It declined while trying to make payment just like it did to mine. I’ll try again tomorrow. Not sure if I was supposed to add her to my application since she’s just 8yrs old🤦🏽♀️
The procedure to obtain e-visa is idiot simple.
Great question! We entered the actual date that we were leaving.
Thanks 4 the information 😊
You are very welcome!
I applied online soo many times but kept getting denied saying I need to put the location of the hotel which I did many times . Should I put it In Vietnamese?
I am sorry, not sure how to advise you. We defintiely completed the application in English with no issue. Maybe someone else has advice.... Good luck!
@@mitchandjan I see so it’s intentional then ! Because they kept repeating the same thing on and on even after I changed it , I applied for multiple entry 90days
I already have a valid e-visa , but my passport is re-issued , can i still use the e-visa with the new passport?
Good luck.
@@mitchandjan No problem. Just a quick question: What do you put in the ID sectino? (passport number? or your state ID?). Thanks
@mitchandjan last question and i will be out of your hair,
So your passport and ticket names matched but only visa names were reversed, right ?
@@razifaheem1512as long as you have a the approved evisa in hand with your name and passport number on it, I’m sure you will have no issue!!
@@razifaheem1512yes! That is correct!
For the dates of entering and leaving vn, can I use the dates I’m actually flying printed on my ticket? Thanks
That is what we did when applying. Just BE CAREFUL that you account for any time/date change between Vietnam and where you are leaving from. Be sure you are entering the LOCAL VIETNAM day of entry. Hope this helps! 🙂
The indented length of stay is the total days from the entry date to the exit date?
@@maitramnguyen7089 that is correct. Include your entry day AND your exit day.
@@mitchandjansounds good would u recommend getting a evisa first or the tickets? because the evisa ask for entry and exit dates
Cheers!
I'm travelling from China to India via Hanoi on 21st July and return on 31st August.
I'll need to take my luggage at Hanoi and check in again
I won't leave the airport.
I'll take the flight to india on the same day
Do i need to apply for evisa?
It would appear that you do, although we are not experts on this. We would direct you to this information that we found - this is an excerpt from a website. We will also link the site where we found this: BASED ON THE LAST PARAGRAPH, IT SEEMS YOU WOULD NEED A VISA (as you are collecting your luggage and will therefore have to go through immigration in Vietnam)
"...And except for those eligible for visa exemptions mentioned foreigners can transit in Vietnam without a visa if both following conditions are met:
- Their layover in Vietnam is less than 24 hours, AND
- They stay within the transit areas during their layover.
Notes: the transit areas are decided by the agencies competent to manage the international border gates. It is the transit area at the international airports if you are traveling by air and at the international seaports where your ships are anchoring if you are on a cruise.
Otherwise, in case your layover in Vietnam is more than 24 hours and/or you are leaving the transit area for taking luggage for the next flight or a short sightseeing tour in the city you are transiting, you NEED to obtain a visa..."
