I’m a 4c natural. Been natural for years. It is hilarious watching you fight against shrinkage, but I decided to give up on the fight against shrinkage because that’s just what my hair loves to do, especially when it’s humid outside. I’ve tried ever anti shrinkage product out there and it hasn’t worked on my hair. I’ve learned to love it-I mean, it kind of like a magic trick and it provides a lot of versatility when it comes to hair styles because I can go from long hair to short hair with just a spritz of water... I have to look at the positives.
I get the best stretch with curlformers when my hair is very wet and I use foaming mousse. I like Jane Carter’s Wrap and Roll mousse. Lotta Body makes a good mousse and I’ve heard Cream of Nature makes a good one as well.
Design Essentials too. She might get a better stretch if she slightly detangles before installing to smooth the cuticles (Felicia Letherwood does a good job at this if you're reading StarPuppy~)
Natural ingredients my butt.... But it slays my edges, so I begrudgingly keep putting it in my hair. 😂 That flax seed gel is nice for the rest of my head, but my edges are a different beast

I agree with everyone suggesting twistouts and braidouts giving more of a stretch. You might have to wait a while for it to set (overnight to 2 days depending on how thick the twists are, products, etc., but if you have like a hair dryer attachment for your blow dryer or something it could be fast), but the stretch is amazing! Would also withstand the humidity better since my twistouts dont shrink all the way up unless water is POURING on it.
Yes! Do the punk version too. I kinda wanna know why you did use it. And I think an acurrate reading for you hair is having a control strand to measure. Like see rating it from the rest measuring it when you don't pull it and then when it's pulled. Idk I just want to know more

I used to fight the shrinkage. Now I find it amusing that I start out with a mid back twist out and end up with a shoulder length fro by the time I leave work. It just takes too much effort. Braids are really good for stretching. If you do twists, pin them across your head and let them dry completely. Use bobby pins at the roots. (I really like the goody ouch-less flex barrettes but they are an investment) The longer you leave the braids or twists in, the longer the stretch will last and day two and three get better and better.

you should try roller setting with big rollers. your hair needs to be really wet and you can use a setting lotion or mousse. you dont have to use a dryer, just wait till your hair dries under the rollers completely

Starrpuppy I love your vids I have about 50% shrinkage but my hair is very thick and coily and the dryness is 100% I have to wet it twice a day for it to stay soft thus it's more shrinkage!!! So I gave up after 3 years of natural and cut it all off. I hope you find a solution I will keep watching.:):)
I've stop using products that have a lot or slightly percentage of glycerin. I've focus on my volume using products that have the mission of turning me into a young lil lion, twist out two braids on each side of my hair/tie my hair into a low bump in the top of my neck and off i go. the length sure doesn't be lower than my shoulders after facing the south america umidity (in fact it always [always!!!!] comes up) but the rest still able to cover up my face.
It's great to watch you having so much fun with this! I have two ideas: (1) Try an elongated twist out achieved by wrapping each twist around your head, pinning it down with a bobby pin, letting the twists dry stretched around your head like that, and then unraveling. Be sure to twist with a product with strong hold. Here's a demo, with the pinning starting at around time stamp 4:20 or so: th-cam.com/video/ruRGEe3DfOY/w-d-xo.html (2) The strongest, most severe hold, crunch-inducing gel I've ever used is the relatively new Bronner Brothers Firm Hold Curling Gel. It turns into cement, I kid you not. The trick: It can "snow" little dust-like particles on day 1, depending on what you layer beneath it and how heavy handed you are. Also, if the hold is so strong that you can't even easily separate your twists, you might have to add water or something moisturizing to remove the cement-level hold. Lastly, the level of hold is a function of how heavy handed you are with the gel and of whether you put any or lots of product beneath it. You kind of have to play around with it. Bottom line: With the right amount of this product, I don't think humidity stands a chance at shrinking your hair. Note: I've never put a curl former over this gel. If you try it, I recommend patch testing just one section first. And if the gel cements the curl former to your hair, try running the hair-filled curl former under water and THEN removing the curl former. Blessings!
