Absolutely! They made these songs. Well, also the orchestration by Paul Riser, classically trained musician and arranger for most of Motown's big name artists, who got little credit.
So glad I grew up with this music. The Temptations were the best male group ever. Their talent was unbelievable and they had it all…..the looks, the polish, the choreography and the classy look. Thanks for this. Took me back to a great time. 👏👏🥰
( This was how far we've come ) Ed Sullivan was criticized in the 60's for booking so many black music artists. And he told them " Too bad. If they get ratings? I don't care what color they are '.
What a treat! The Temptations are one of my ALL TIME. FAVORITES! The cultural change that these fellas contributed to cannot be overstated. They sang and danced into so many hearts and lives so as to be larger than life. I wish you could have been there to see it. Thank you for playing it.
What a time for radio when I was a kid--you could hear this song followed by, for example, (the mighty) Cream playing "Sunshine of Your Love", or the Beatles or Creedence.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, are The Temptations! One of the best television performances! This was an amazing alternate version with a spoken opening by the late great Paul Williams! Thank you for showing so much love to The Tempts!
Thank you guys for reacting to my request. This was one of their best Ed Sullivan performances. Eddie was hitting some difficult notes on this one. He makes it look so easy. As you said, the band was better than usual too. It's hit and miss with them on this show. Paul was still in good form as well. I love David Ruffin but he really wasn't too happy just being a background singer. When he was outfront...one of the greatest.
The two world's most iconic singing groups - on Mowtown simultaneously. Kings of R&B, songs like My Girl, You're My Everything, Ain't Too Proud To Beg, I Can't Get Next To You, Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me), Papa Was A Rollin' Stone, and that's just the Temptations. You throw in the Four Tops, Bernadette, Reach Out I'll Be There, Baby I Need Your Lovin', Standing In the Shadows Of Love, and it just goes on and on. Where did the songwriters and talent of essential, heartfelt, beautiful genius go in today's music? Lawd had mercy on me; I am so glad someone is bringing this music to a younger generation. Thank Airplay Beats, you're the best. The Soul Survivors Appreciate your hard work. We need more Mowtown!!!! Groups like The Temps & Tops will never be seen again.
Love this classic song and performance - perfection.🎶 I remember when they did this with Diana Ross. Such a great tune. Thanks so much guys for this reaction🧡
My Mom would have the radio on in the kitchen while she did the cooking on Saturday mornings, listening to Motown, the Beatles, all the great tunes coming out in the '60's - this is a classic.
Also, in addition to singing lead on certain songs where his tenor and/or falsetto were put to their best use, Eddie did the vocal arrangements for the background singing. Even when he wasn't singing lead, he was an important part of their sound. He also had the fashion sense of the group so he served as wardrobe manager as well.
Eddie Kendricks on lead vocal. The original single also featured the Supremes with Diana Ross sharing lead. She makes her appearance at 1:10: th-cam.com/video/r28-9kh4bhA/w-d-xo.html
Thanks fellas for doing this. Motown is the music that I grew up with. So it has a special place in my heart being born and raised in Detroit. Appreciate you 🙏 💙
Favorite Temptations song is “Papa was a Rolling Stone” - one of the best recordings ever. The Funk Brothers grand slammed on that one. So many tasty musical morsels - but the trumpet and “Wah Wah” rhythm guitar unparalleled
YA'LL HAVE BEEN COOKIN' WITH GAS, MAN!! Some GREAT TUNES!! Thanks for being so varied and just ENJOYING MUSIC and showin' some appreciation for people's talents!!! GREAT to hear YOUR PERSPECTIVE!!! Have a GREAT WEEKEND, GUYS!!! HUGS!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
On the last note that's actually Dennis hitting that super high note on top of Eddie's sweet falsetto. Which is the same thing Ruff did at the end of *_I Wish it Would Rain._* A number of the Temps leads over the years were able to hit those very high notes. Otis said that "Al" Bryant could "roam all around up there." Glenn Leonard at the beginning of Silent Night. Seems like Ollie Woodson did it on every other lyric. Also Bo Henderson and GC Cameron were able to hit those notes as well.
Fellas did you mention your mom is from Chicago? She may be familiar with this great Northern Soul vocal group out of Chicago- The Dells. “Wear It On Our Face” is fire.
If you haven't hit them yet, might I suggest "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" or "Just My Imagination". two songs that hit hom,e for so many of us. Art imitating life.
If you think about it, Melvin (Blue) isn't really hitting low notes due to skill. That's how he talks. He was born with a super low natural bass voice.
Motiwn waa designed to crossover to a mainstream ( white) audience .A few wrote for all. I'm more down with non Motown , Soul, Funk R&B of that era. Curtis Mayfield- Superfly ( 73) Title track from Soundtrack. Curtis wrote all his own material and one of the most brillant soulful cats that ever lived I appreciate Motown for sure I just far prefer the likes of James Brown . Sly and Family Stone Curtis Mayfield P-,Funk
This song is underrated but it should've been. Eddie's falsetto is mesmerizing You should check out this song being dueted with the Supremes. It's spectacular even better than this version
This sing was actually sung by the temptations and the supremes together.
One of the greatest singing groups ever!
The greatest IMO
Shout Out to all the Motown Acts !!!! and the Band Behind them all The Funk Brothers !!!!!
Absolutely! They made these songs. Well, also the orchestration by Paul Riser, classically trained musician and arranger for most of Motown's big name artists, who got little credit.

Men were we blessed to grow up with this music.....
Thanks guys

Man this song just makes me happy. Blaring everywhere back in Ny
The great Eddie Kendricks-RIP
What a time for radio when I was a kid--you could hear this song followed by, for example, (the mighty) Cream playing "Sunshine of Your Love", or the Beatles or Creedence.
Those guys had it totally locked in. No such thing as auto tune… just people who had the ears, the pipes, and knew their stuff.
Those were the days. Every lyric can be heard and such professionals.
Everyone Loved the Great music. These young people are getting Crap. Adios.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, are The Temptations! One of the best television performances! This was an amazing alternate version with a spoken opening by the late great Paul Williams! Thank you for showing so much love to The Tempts!
Eddie Kendricks was THE MAN...all these guys, what voices.....I grew up in Motown!
The Temps were soooo good

Great song choice!
Such soulful voices! That was the days love songs made sense. Good music.❤

They're just literally perfection.
SMOOTH AS SILK! I miss David...

Grew up with these guys. They’re amazing.
Very unusual and excellent harmonies. You can hear part of the crowd really wants to go nuts.
The Temps were great. I hadn't see this live, though and it was fantastic! Thanks!
Grew up with Motown in the late 60's into the 70's and always loved the Temps and especially this tune 👍🇬🇧
Also, in addition to singing lead on certain songs where his tenor and/or falsetto were put to their best use, Eddie did the vocal arrangements for the background singing. That was the version I was expecting. Love Eddie and Diana singing together!
Curtis Mayfield - Superfly ( 73)
Tittletrack from the Soundtack

I requested that whole album for a reaction.
He's your friend..
Freind indeed 🎶🎼🎵😂😂
A must hear is:
Rod Stewart - Losing You
To date, the best cover of The Temptations.
A Masterpiece 👏👏👏 The Temptations are a Great band ✌️
Great, I grew up listening to Soul Music, thanks
I haven't heard that in ages and I definitely hadn't seen the video. I've seen other videos of them but anyway, that totally rocked!
Thanks gentlemen, love all the players, impeccable chops
Thanks fellas for doing this. Motown is the music that I grew up with. So it has a special place in my heart being born and raised in Detroit. Appreciate you 🙏 💙
Motowner from Dearborn Heights!
One of the richest falsettos I've ever heard. This is the original male group. 4 lead singers.
The classics👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
My brother is 5 yrs older than me and Motown was all he listened to, so l know this song ✌️my brother moved when he was 20 and Rock & Roll moved in👍🏻🎶
what a song, what a band, what a mic stand . all my best to you and yours from Liverpool
David Ruffin designed that mic stand.
@@324cmac very cool stand
@@peteroneill3993 It is. But David mostly made it to separate himself as lead singer of the group. But he really was an amazing singer.
The world needs more music like this, right now! Temptations♥♥♥♥♥
Favorite Temptations song is “Papa was a Rolling Stone” - one of the best recordings ever. The Funk Brothers grand slammed on that one. So many tasty musical morsels - but the trumpet and “Wah Wah” rhythm guitar unparalleled

You can't mess with the Temptation put your hands down.

Love how you guys know all the Temps. They and The Supremes hogged the airwaves - like one was playing on at least one radio station at all times.
Real deal right there.
❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ed Sullivan did have some tremendous artists on his show Nice choice guys Give a listen to Jean Luc Ponty! Live album in particular Mirage

Real Professional. This was the Best reason to Dig Motown. Cloud Nine 👍. Detroit Grit 🇺🇸
How about some Humble Pie, “I don’t need no doctor”, live at filmore east !
If you think about it, Melvin (Blue) isn't really hitting low notes due to skill. That's how he talks. He was born with a super low natural bass voice.
I was expecting Ms Ross to come out🤷♀️🤷♀️🙏

I’m gonna make you play more AEROSMITH!
Now you're jamming.
If you guys want to hear an awesome, much rawer take on this song listen to Dee Dee Warwick's version
C’mon, holy crap🩷🩷🩷🎵🎶🎵
Wait a minute, this was more famous as a duet with Diana Ross and The Supremes. I love this but check out the duet!!
IMO the better Temps/Supremes duet is I'll Try Something New. I can only find the audio on TH-cam.
This song is underrated but it should've been. Eddie's falsetto is mesmerizing
You should check out this song being dueted with the Supremes. It's spectacular even better than this version
I'm gonna make you lunch meat
They just don't make great music like this anymore.
