Hopefully all false electors will be charged and prosecuted, their final sentence should include being barred from voting in any and all future elections state and local. Throughout our history both terms--republic and democracy--have been used interchangeably. The vast majority of non-scholars in our country refer to our political system as a democracy though.
To understand how our why the Founding Fathers designed our system the way it is, one would really need to study history and all that lead up to the War of Independance, the Bill of Rights, and the U.S. Constitution.
