I’m amazed at how well worn the paths stay beaten down. All the cut trees I see mean that there is active maintenance to some degree. You’re a talented documentarian and you bring your artistic vision to your work. Enjoying all your work!
And more way cool mushrooms! Makes me want to learn more about them! Super cool place to stay. Has all the kinds of things I enjoy and a great woodsy vibe. Hope you've enjoyed your time there taking some special care of yourself preparing for your goodbyes. A hug from afar KATE. How wonderful to have had a friend that meant so much! I'm sure you meant the same... French toast maybe or some wine? Both is good too! Thx as always...
You’re so sweet and kind. And you’ve shared your highs and lows with us. In a way (even though I know you’re farther along your trip) were there with you and sending you love , peace and joy.
Love the colors in the morning. You could always come back to Maine and apply for an artist in residence at the Monson Art center. You could enjoy all the hikers going through town. Check it out - a great way to take your trail time and make it into art.
I would highly recommend if you truly want a adventure go to the Philippines! My wife is from the Phil's and everytime we go there its truly a adventure! In particular I will recommend a few places that I think you will enjoy. And keep in mind that since the Phillipines were a U.S. colony almost everyone there speaks English. My first recommendation would be the mountain town of Baguio, which is my personal favorite place in the Philippines. Baguio was a mining town founded by the Americans in the late 1900 so it has a very American vibe to it because of the wide streets and numerous parks. One of my favorite things about Baguio is that its 5000ft above sea level so it's not as hot and sticky as the coastal areas. Another plus about Baguio is its situated in a very beautiful pine forest so you always have that clean pine air smell. I highly recommend Baguio! Another recommendation is the surfing capital of the Phillipines, Baler. As someone who grew up 20 minutes from the beach and spent most of my life in the water being in Baler felt like being home in Santa Cruz. The water is warm and the surf if good you will enjoy Baler! My third and final suggestion is the old Spanish town of Vigan. As someone of Spanish and Portuguese descent its really cool to see a almost 500 year old Spanish city in the middle of southeast Asia. Vigan is all about the old buildings and especially the food! 2 foods I recommend trying are the Empanada which is super yummy and the Vigan longganisa which is a Spanish style sausage. Enjoy your travels Kate!
I got to meet you briefly at our TShirt shop in Kailua-Kona! Now you're hiking in the Cascades that I grew up around. We probably split our hikes 50/50 between the Olympics and the Cascades. So good to see you, I'm glad I remembered your name(after a few wrong guesses.)
You are such a kind hearted person. Pure entertainment and your videos are simply the best videos documenting the trail. You make it feel like we are on your journey with you. Very sweet to take in IBTAT. You two just crack me up with the bike riding and laughter and you boinking his swear words. Ha ha ha ha I told him in his comment section that I’m going to bat those mice into Oregon. This horrible critters chewed through my water line at Mount Baker. It’s not the deer , cougar and deer you have to worry about it’s the critters chewing on your tent. Keep on trucking Feathers you’re amazing Sheila
I am glad u and ibtat r together I seen on TH-cam Washington has alot of missing peeps stay together I Love you both ,might be sasquatch I don't know but please say with Mr Grumpy Love you Bothbe safe k 😉
Those are wood Burls on your lumpy tree. They can grow to very large sizes. Loggers would take them back and turn them on laths and make wooden bowls from them. The Redwoods have some very large ones if you ever get the chance to hike through the Redwoods in the coastal north end of California. I use to give guided horseback tours through there many years ago. Very pretty country.
Again and again you show us what a kind and caring person you are. It's sad that this amazing journey is coming to an end soon. However it is nice to know that there are new adventures for you in the future. Stay safe, and please continue to inspire us all.
How about an rv or van. You could boondock & hike to your hearts desire in the west. Think your channel could outdo many of the other bloggers with your sweet perspective.
Although you aren't big on gear reviews I would actually LOVE if you could do a full review of your HMG pack when you get a chance after trail! I'm considering between the HMG Windrider 3400 or the Waymark LITE 50 for my PCT hike and you havent had any problems with your HMG pack so far, at least none that you've mentioned. Would really like to hear your thoughts!
If you like fall you and Batman should go canoeing in the boundary waters like ELI. The fishing is amazing and if you come across a grove of tamarack trees when the needles turn yellow it will blow your mind. Actually you’re comment about bringing in different professions is brilliant. People want to learn about trees, plants, geology etc, because it enhances the hike. Their names, uses, etc. In Michigan are the floating bogs with lodes of high bush blueberries in august. We would go in with a cooler and fill it half full of blueberries. Classes, nature walks, etc, Sierra club books are a good source of information. You are correct, too many videos on how to hike and gear reviews. Your videos would be informative and entertaining. Sleep well
Hello Kate, thank you for sharing this fine video. That Is a quaint little hotel, very neat and clean. You be safe out there. All the best of good things for you, every day. 🤗
So since you asked I will offer a destination. Nashville, Indiana. Aka brown county. It is home to many artists. You can research when you have time. You and Batman have a place to stay if you ever get over this way. ✌️🤞👍
Take in all the sights. Sleeping beauty lays in your view from hwy 141 looking towards the town of Trout lake! Many wonderful things to learn and appreciate. Thank you for sharing this with us!! We are heading home to Trout lake in a few days into the mountains!
metalhead moonalisa Finally went there this summer. It was beautiful-The Prescott National forest is incredible! I totally agree with your recommendation for Kate.
Hey Feather here is a good mushroom book actually it's a field guide and it's called "All That the Rain Promises and more", by David Arora.. he has a more elaborate book which looks more like a Bible. But this one is a real good beginner. How can one view your artwork?? I think you have a wonderful creative eye and I am really curious to see what you can do!!!
Being as you are from Washington, this type of weather is nothing new to you. Still thinking the CDT is in your future, you are a super vloger and I am guessing that all the folks that have followed you through the AT and now the PCT, would certainly follow your adventures on the CDT. 2200 miles 😊 Trout Lake, town food, shower, clean clothes and a Rubber Ducky, couldn't ask for anything more. SAFE HIKING.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and Colors family . Such a tragedy to have that happen on the bridge with the little creek running through . So many hikers have slept under deadfalls but a freak accident when a rotten tree falls takes the life of a hiker .
If you want to travel I highly suggest the Philippines. Wonderful people, it’s very safe to travel, and most everyone speaks English. Hit me up if you ever want some travel advice. My gf is from the Philippines and I go every year.
Ok so for suggestions: have you explored the national parks of CA? Pinnacles is so picturesque! It’s a small but mighty park when it comes to trails and beauty. It has caves, endangered CA condors with their babies. It’s the newest national park. Channel Islands National Park is very unique and special especially if you kayak and dive. One of the most biologically diverse national parks. CA has the highest and lowest points in the continental US Whitney and Death Valley. And both are along hwy 395 in CA. For some ideas about hwy 395, check out the you tuber CA through my lens. One of my fav vacations is hwy 395. Lots of natural hot springs. It is also the gateway to the ancient bristlecone pines national monument which are the oldest trees in earth. Also check out the hundreds of miles of the redwoods national park. So many amazing trails. Check out avenue of the giants, fern canyon and trillium falls. Take a ranger walk to learn about why these trees are so incredible. And I haven’t even touched in sequoia or Yosemite or Joshua tree or lava tubes national parks. So much to see and do.
I agree with you Kelly Johnson about Pinnacles National Park! It's a small park but it has lots of really cool hiking. My 2 personal favs are ofc the High Peaks Trail because it has a slight Yosemite feel to it when your at the summit area and my other favorite trail is the Chalone Peak Trail. I like the Chalone Peak trail because it's a super strenuous hike and not a lot of people venture up to the peak. The view from the summit is really beautiful with the Salinas Valley and the Santa Lucia Mountains to the west and the Diablo range to the east. I used to climb before I had my snowboarding accident 20 years ago and I always enjoyed climbing the Discovery Wall, the Pinnacles has so much climbing!
All at once, I've come to following onherbike, itchyfeet, restless kiwi ...and Kate here...sometimes I watch the guys' solo travel vlogs, but they haven't the charm, or even the skill, in story telling...there are more vlogers, I know...I did one long solo hike, the Tahoe Yosemite trail, which I think the PCT overlaps, and towards end hiked along with another hiker with his brother, and he said, much in your same vein, that he wanted to do more, like Peru...me too, I thought...this in 1975...years go by with jobs and responsibilites, and the notion of long adventures is hard to fulfill...if one can, one should, my thought!...good fortune came my way sorta late, a ten year stint working in Yosemite Valley for the consessinaire which provided wages and housing...so, I followed on that 'me too', though anchored in one place...in the Fall anytime I could go over to Happy Isles and up to Vernal and Nevada Falls-- and the colors much like in this clip...and, there were accidents among the enployees, and the tourists...some I knew...so, I dunno, it's sad...I had/have a blog journal begun in 2007...the first three years daily posts much like these clips...all from Valley to 2013...the last, what, six years, I've been back in Town, but, I still see my surroundings with the wonder I saw things on that long ago Tahoe/Yosemite hike...☺
Patagonia in South America, most of us know so little about, and what do see is epic. So ripe for a wide-eyed artist. I watch an occasional gear review, even some bushcraft silliness, but it would be a dead end for you.
Kate, you might be onto something with that TV show idea. Many years ago there was a very popular travelog show on SoCal TV called the Happy Wanderers hosted by Slim Barnard and his wife. They would travel all over to show popular travel destinations like Yosemite. What made the show was Slim's infectious laugh, so start practicing that now! Here is a great documentary about Slim and his TV show: blogs.chapman.edu/huell-howser-archives/2016/12/07/happy-wanderers-visiting-418/
people travel all the time get a used RV as your home and sell your art at art shows to fund your travels as well as youtube revenues and patreon lots people do it, national wildlife has disperse camping you can live on for free and you can move with the weather up in elevation in summer lower in winter.
I highly recommend people try hiking in wooden clogs. Super comfortable. Klymite Static V whoooo hooo. I got the same pad! .....auw, sad about "Colors".
Colors are even more beautiful in heaven so no doubt Colors is in his glory. He says you don't need to shed a tear for him instead turn up your chin and blow him a kiss💋 Just a thought...
Well you still have some other trials to hike like Pinhoti Trial among others, but... What about in being the first in hiking the Burningman art event ?
Whatever you decide to do, I’ll keep watching. Your videos are great.
I’m amazed at how well worn the paths stay beaten down. All the cut trees I see mean that there is active maintenance to some degree. You’re a talented documentarian and you bring your artistic vision to your work. Enjoying all your work!
GO ahead and let the tears come, Feathers! It's alright to get emotional! Thinking of you always!
Nice to see I’m not the only one who loves their Klymit Static V air mat. It’s cheap, tough and you don’t fall off the edges.
Make prints of some of the beauty you recognize in nature. 😊
Northwest area of lower Michigan. Its amazing. Too many beautiful locations and trails in Michigan to list.

Nature's paintbrush is soooo accurate! I hope the beer you shared with Colors was a good one and met with sunshine on that day to dry up your tears. ♥
While night hiking solo I have a conversation with the trees. Keeps the animals away. I think.
New Zealand. The PNW of the Southern Hemisphere...

For your artistic works may I suggest the Arizona Trail, from sprawling desert expances to majestic mountain ranges, and of course, the Grand Canyon .
There are so many amazing waterfalls! I love Paint Creek, Blackrock Mountain and ravencliff falls. You should explore there :p
