I have often heard it said that there is a Queen song for every human emotion and experience- I agree. That can be said about music in general, but it isn't often applied legitimately to just one band. Great reaction!

The fact that they had so many overlooked songs like this one shows that they were one of the best bands ever. The deeper you dig the better it gets in my opinion. Especially their 70's stuff.

A song about the problems of infidelity. I's by Brian, but I think Freddie could also relate to it well, as he had more than one relationship more than once. And there were the constant temptations of the life on the road. And they all were partying, with everything that came along with it.

    • @karolyn8644

Didn't hear much of Deacy (I often have trouble hearing the bass), but Roger is killing it; Freddie is killing it; Brian is killing it - great song! Thanks Hap.

Well, this is another time I practically jumped up and down! Another one of my top 5 by the philosopher of the group. To me it’s about recognizing that he’s not able to resist the temptations of being a rock star even though he knows in his heart that it’s a betrayal of his wife. A complicated man. Great reaction. Awesome reaction! This is one of my favorite Queen songs. It is just a great song, there is great drumming, Brian's guitar sounds awesome, there are good bass parts, even Freddie's small piano parts is quite on point. Freddie sings his ass off on this song, this song actually has the highest note on a Queen studio album, but it is buried underneath the last guitar solo at 17:56 that is an E6. That is also why Brian's guitar sounds more like it is screaming, because Freddie is screaming underneath the guitar solos. There is an alliterative version of this song which is almost better in my opinion, th-cam.com/video/MREirsxdvyM/w-d-xo.html, although it doesn't have the E6 note. As I said this is one of my favorite Queen songs, I only wish that the vocals were brought more to the center of the mix or that they were more prevalent, the vocals are somewhat buried within the mix. But obviously this is a Brian song so he likely wanted the guitar to stand out more. The original meaning of the song is actually meant for two women, the women he is with and the mistress. That is why he says he can't be true to the mistress. But I agree and like your interpretation that this song also spells out what can happen to a relationship at the end. This is a song about a grown up relationship, you get many different types of love songs that are more for teenagers, this one is more grown up.
Another favorite of mine is The Great King Rat th-cam.com/video/nNDOazfRg08/w-d-xo.html and My Fairy King th-cam.com/video/VeVjEg4znQk/w-d-xo.html.

Brian has said this song is about a friend having an affair. I've always wondered about that as he was having one himself at that time. The verses go back and forth about his thoughts when he is with the "other woman" and his wife.

Agreed! I believe this song is definitely about being in love with someone that you possibly were in love with or attracted to in the past, but now years later are in a different relationship but are still attracted to or possibly still in love with that person. The lyrics, “if I take you tonight,” I believe is about consummating a relationship and the consequences and guilt of being unfaithful but also wondering if it’s NOT TOO LATE for that relationship and also “Did I live my life right?” Is questioning whether the person made a mistake in living a lie being with someone they didn’t truly love. Just always been my take on the lyrics of such a powerful song. But alas, as Freddie often said, he never wanted to ruin what the listener’s interpretations of the song were about. Great reaction Hap! I could watch you react to Queen all day. They seem to bring you so much anticipation and joy and as I’ve said before, it’s like watching and listening to them for the first time again when I watch your reactions. Keep up the great work! Too Much Love Will Kill You is an amazing, beautiful song also written by Brian. There is a version and a video that is sung ONLY by Brian and I believe that version pertains Brian’s perspective of the song and of what was going on in his life at the time. There is also a version that includes both Brian and Freddie with also a video. The video was made from clips of their concerts and music videos because it was recorded after Freddie was too ill to perform live. You should eventually check out BOTH videos because they each capture totally different meanings when they are performed by Brian and Freddie and BOTH suit their different life situations. They are amazing! Enjoy♥️

this song was absolutely about a man who is questioning his marriage and has an affair on his wife. He feels strongly about his mistress but guilty about chesting on his wife. The wife tells him it's late but not too late to be with her and in the second chorus he is telling his mistress that its not too late for them to have a relationship. the third verse and chorus seems to tell that the wife confronts him about his infidelity and he is struck with guilt and wonders if he does stay with his wife would that make his life a lie. there seems to be a sense that he stayed with his wife when it says let the fire take our bodies tonight and let the tide wash our guilt into the tide, however i guess he could have been saying that to the mistress as well. I guess it is up to interpretation. It has been documented that Brian May had dealt with some father-son acceptance issues and anxieties over his own role as a husband and father and sometimes these themes came out in his writing. He wrote Father to Son about a father advising his son but with little affect and he wrote Good Company about a man working all his life to build his company that he never built a relationship with someone to share it with. He wrote Leaving home aint easy about a man who wants to leave his wife but doesn't have the fortitude to do so because it would hurt her and Save Me was obviously how he felt after the relationship has ended. He also wrote Too much love will kill you talking about making the hard choice between a new love and the love you leave behind as per the lyrics in the song. It is a beautiful song that he did solo and also released it as a queen song with Freddie singing it. You should hear the lyrics and Freddie"s heart wrenching vocals and Brian's version is great as well. I love your enthusiastic way of reacting to a song, your curiosity and wanting to really connect with the lyrics and the music. I love to find out the history of songs and what the writer was trying to say as well. It's commonly known that Brian did have an affair with with Current wife Anita while he was still married to Chrissy. Since his affair with Anita was in the 80"s and this song was written in the 70"s it couldn't be about that affair but he married Chrissy in 1974 and It's late was written in 1977 so not sure if he was talking about a personal experience of him having an affair then or just a fictional one. He met Anita Dobson in 1986 and divorced his wife Chrissy in 1988. He and Anita got married in 2000. Im not judging Brian May's morals, just the facts. We don't know the dynamics of his 1st marriage and it is not my place to judge anyone. I love Brian May as an artist and from everything i have seen about him he seems to be a great human being as well. Queen were human beings just like us and were prone to the same human frailties as we do. So all Love and no Hate.

In my opinion the prophets song is Brian’s bohemian rhapsody. And i get that you don’t want to do let me live yet and in a way you’re right about Freddie not finishing that song. Mother love is the song that i think you’re talking about. In that song Brian takes over but kind of that similar thing happends in let me live. In that song Freddie sings the first verse, Roger the second and Brian the third ( i have to tell you that i dont know if Freddie passed away and then they finished that song or that it always the plan to do it like this). But i made another suggestion that i would love you to react to. Its ‘is this the world that we created...?’ Its beautiful and written by Brian and Freddie and also performd at live aid (but i already told you that in your live aid reaction😂😂) so please react to it💜

I tkink it may be about Briians and the depression about leaving wife for somone he met and eventually married. I read that the video breakthrough was good for his depression.
