    You mention that price is a con of this unit, however from the research I've done (in the UK at least :D) it may actually be cheaper than a usual passive splitter system! If you buy 2x "Behringer MS8000" splitters, a "Millenium PB16 XLR Out" unit plus all the XLR cables to connect everything together, that comes out to just north of £300 which is around the same price as one of these boxes. Plus the DN 4816-O is only 1U of rack space, AND only has the weight of a single ethernet cable rather than 16 copper XLR cables! For a rig where gain and phantom power are alright being set on your XR18, this is a pretty awesome setup! Thanks for the video :D

      You make a very good point! As I mention in the video, it is a con for being above 300, I didn’t mention for those who like stay low on budget, would probably like a 16 seismic audio splitter(236-320$-depending on tail length) but of course, for weight, and tails to deal with!

    Great video. Can you show complete setup with IEM?

    Nice video brother
    Assuming we use XR as monitor mixer, can we just use a long cat5 cable (30 meters length in example) and then put the DN4816 beside the FOH mixers instead of put the DN4816 in the same rack with XR? I mean to make xlr requirement shorter for connectiing the analog out to the FOH Mixers.
    I hope u understand my words. Pardon for my bad english.

    Hey Sean, thanks for the video. Quick question. Did you design you mixing station template? Its really good.

      Yes I did! I made to fit my workflow, one of the perks of using mixing station!

    Have you experienced any extreme noise from the output ports of the Midas unit? I just got mine and it’s got an unusable amount of noise coming from the ports

    • @seantallica2020
      @seantallica2020  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes I have! I had that problem and always blamed it on the grounding of the building, but even when we played a venue with good power, still had noise. It all came down to the Ethernet. I used the 10ft from behringer from my p16 unit, and it was the cause, I have bought a 50ft Shielded ethernet, and the problem was solved.
      Here is the Ethernet:
      amzn.to/46lO3d6
      (Tip: Before you turn on any mixers, make sure the Ethernet is connected from your Ultra out, into your Ultra in, One gig drove me insane, and I powered all the mixers, and plugged in the ethernet then powered, and the problem was solved)

      @@seantallica2020 thank you for responding! The product seems very finicky… is it reliable after the good Ethernet cable?

      @@GearWithJames yes it is, when this first happened I thought I had a bad unit, but it comes down to the cable, shielded cat 6e is working good for me, he’ll I even had to use a non shielded before to make ends meet! (Also I am using power conditioner for all my mixers, make sure you have clean power)

    • @GearWithJames
      @GearWithJames 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@seantallica2020 I actually returned my first unit because I thought it was faulty. The noise was/is extremely loud. I’m just using a random cat5e cable which probably isn’t shielded. Just makes me nervous trying to use this at a show and having the noise issue.

      @@GearWithJames I understand that , in my experience it came down to the cable , I hadn’t seen nothing about it being the unit, that un shielded may have been a faulty wire, I have now a 50ft and a 125ft for longer runs, and they send clean signal, another thing is make sure the unit is plugged in the same circuit as your board, may be an issue there

    but you can send it to foh as analog or input in the I/O of the xr18, i dont get it

      My use of the Unit is to send channels 1-16 out to a iem mixer, or in another case, FOH, you can send what ever you want from the outputs to what you want like Bus 1-6, LR, channel 1-16, FXsnd and Return, it’s a versatile splitter in my case

    Thanks for the info. Does this add 16 to the 6 on the X18 or replace the 6?

    • @seantallica2020
      @seantallica2020  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly it does not, only the 6 the XR had already, your just adding another 6 exact copy of the mix busses, unlike on the m32/X32, you can send 16 buses out(exact copy) so it does not add additional outputs

  • @reedbass5644
    @reedbass5644 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you send the outs to another mixer so the band can do their IEMs?

    • @seantallica2020
      @seantallica2020  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I send the direct channels of 1-16 for the bands mixer(in ear monitor rig. I then can use the 6 in the XR for Front fills or other PAs

      @@seantallica2020 so you are using the Xr18 as a front of house mixer and sending the DN4816-0 out for in ears?
      If so how do they select and adjust the in ears or are you just using the 6 busses for in ears?

  • @MattLunser
    @MattLunser ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I almost bought this until I learned gain is controlled by the X18. I would think the house would want control of the gain independently.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @seantallica2020
      @seantallica2020  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes since I am the FOH in all of my gigs it’s fine, I prefer to control it than a band, one caveat that is pretty band, but I like the ease of use choosing what I want to come out!

    • @MattLunser
      @MattLunser ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@seantallica2020 so I’m thinking of building an IEM system based around the
      XR18. I would take the 16 outs of the DN 4816 with a fan to fan XLR whip and give that to the
      FOH. Basically using it as a splitter.

    • @seantallica2020

      My Tip is to leave Tap Points 1-16, as "Analog" so they can do all the LC, EQ, Comp, and Gating.
