I will show you the newly discovered Heraclea Sintika - the most modern city in the Balkans for the time. There is not only the most ancient toilet bowl, but also loads of other interesting finds. We will also visit the fortress of our famous king Samuel, immersing ourselves in his tragic history. All in all, a very interesting episode of the "Mysteries of Bulgaria" series awaits us. This is Season 4 Episode 2. You know we have other series on #theclashers besides TOP Rankings and Facts, even though those are the most watched. Today's episode aims to show you two of the beauties of Bulgaria that everyone should visit.
Heraclea Sintika itself is located on the southern slope of the Kozhuh volcano. Only a kilometer from here is the Rupite area, where grandmother Vanga chooses to live, because of the strong energy of the place. I have a whole episode about him from the first season of #mystery you may have seen it. STRANGE FINDINGS in Heraclea Sintika - The mysteries of Bulgaria are not limited to the toilet there. It's just a teaser for you to click and watch because I know if I grab your attention, you'll be interested.
For over 100 years, historians and archaeologists have debated and searched for a city that was mentioned by Homer, Herodotus, Titus Livius, Pliny the Elder and Thucydides as an important center for the entire area. However, there is no trace of such an important city, neither in Bulgaria, nor in North Macedonia, nor in Greece. With the help of a stele confiscated by treasure hunters, in 2002 a strange Latin inscription was discovered here in the area, mentioning the Heraclians, and suggesting that perhaps the city in question was in this area, but buried under meters of soil. So in 2007 excavations finally started and miraculously, the ruins of a rather large city began to appear. So every year, little by little, Heraclea Sintika shows its secrets and arouses the interest of over 30,000 people who visited it in 2021 alone. Many people describe it as one of the new wonders of #bulgaria and beyond.
Thanks to funding, the work of uncovering the city is in full swing and so far many remains can be seen, some of which are two artisan quarters and the central square, which is the most attractive as it is the heart of any ancient city. It is called the forum and is dotted with fallen columns, at its northern end there are 15 rooms which were probably shops. In 2019, the large canal was also revealed, which can even be entered. It hints at the advanced architecture of the city at that time. Work began last year to uncover the Acropolis, and archaeologists hope to learn more about the decline of this ancient city. The buildings on the slope of Kozhuh are very well preserved, and from them the panorama over the ancient city was revealed. An antique toilet can also be seen here, probably also with a nice view.
This ancient city was founded in the 4th century BC by the Thracian tribe Sinti, who inhabited the area along the Struma River. In the 3rd century, it became the royal residence of Philip II, and historians believe that Alexander the Great began his early campaigns from here.
