We recently did some bad karaoke at our house when our millennial children were visiting, plus 1 spouse & some friends, & my kids were rather impressed when I did this song & the whole ”dearly beloved… intro to Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy”, the long full version, without needing lyrics. Lol! I was very lucky to be able to take my kids to see Salt n Pepa 10 years ago this very weekend. I just looked it up. It was at Riverfest in Little Rock. And I remember it distinctly because Thank God for Salt n Pepa that weekend, because the supposedly big act was Cielo Green. He was late as hell & so effed up he could barely stand up, much less sing or perform. It was the worst live performance I think I’ve ever seen & that includes elementary school orchestra “concerts” & listening to non one but TWO kids learning to play French horn consecutively, so 3 years of one finally starting to sound good, then here comes #2 starting from scratch. It’s a gorgeous instrument eventually, but it’s so difficult that the first couple of years are somewhat rougher than even most of the other band instruments, not orchestra though, cuz that is scary bad at first, & probably forever t for most people. Anywho,.. oh yeah, Cielo pissed everybody off so bad that they only paid him 1/2 of what they had agreed upon, which was still more than he deserved & they made sure to print that on the front page of the newspaper. But Salt n Pepa rocked the house before that, & I think they even did extra encores to try & cover for Cielo’s tardiness. They were really awesome & even if Cielo had given his best performance, it would have paled in comparison. Everyone was loving them, all races, all ages, etc… they asked everyone in the beginning who was less than 20, who was in their 20s, in their 30s, 40s, 50s, etc… I think they got to a few in their 70s, but each decade had a lot of fans to represent. Point is they saved the day/night by being even better than expected, & we expected a lot! Just because it’s Arkansas doesn’t mean you can just get sh*tfaced & put forth zero effort for a bunch of dumb rednecks. So the girls brought it & respected their fans & no doubt gained quite a few, whereas Cielo is making his way to the trash heap of history. Although he did unite the crowd around singing F^CK YOU back at him at the top of our lungs with middle fingers up. Luckily my kids were both in college at the time so there a chance that they didn’t even notice me doing what everyone was doing. Lol! Slightly ashamed but not enough.
I'm pretty sure I'm a lot older than you but we had great music back in the day so they can't expect us to stop loving music just because we got old 😂🔥
Fun fact: I was supposed to be Peppa originally. I went to school with Herbie's lil brother Stevie and they were looking for a brownskin girl to be Peppa. Aw I miss Stevie, he was such a cool guy. He kept asking me to come and audition for his brother but unfortunately I didn't like the Salt&Peppa concept lol and I missed out on a great opportunity that actually turned out to be an amazing project!
