  • This is not a video where I show you how to fix it but I will simply tell you what the best course of action is. The problem started in September. All of a sudden there was a white line on my HS500. I did not know what to do. I kept waiting for it to fix itself and finally took it to the BOSE SERVICE CENTER. They contacted me via phone after 10 days and they said the parts of Home Speaker 500 are not available and will need to be ordered, the fee shall be Rs 7800. I said why am I being charged this fee so the lady said because you have no warranty and also the parts we are calling from abroad. I said to her but this is not even a hardware issue - she said ok fine if we change the part and it is found to be a software issue and we don't change the unit, u wont need to pay anything. I said fine. I waited. And waited. They never updated me. I went to the service centre. They said come back later. 35 days later, I got a call from a Bose guy who said he will drop my unit off. I said ok fine. Please note - they did not return my power cable and told me there should be a spare one in the box. They were right but make sure when you take this to the centre you don't take your power cable with u. Just incase you dont have the box you're going to have double trouble. #bosehomespeaker500 #bose #boseissue

    Disconnect the speaker from power and wait 30 seconds
    Reconnect the speaker to power
    When the light bar illuminates, follow the steps below within ten seconds:
    Tip: Do not rapidly alternate button presses. Wait one second between presses
    On the speaker, tap the Action button once
    Tap the Microphone Off button once
    Tap the Action button a second time
    Tap the Microphone Off button a second time.
    Things to know about this process
    The light bar will blink green to indicate the speaker has entered recovery mode. The speaker will then try to download and install the latest update. The light bar scrolls white from left to right while downloading and then from right to left while installing. This can take several minutes (often around 20 minutes). When the light bar turns off, turn on the speaker, open the Bose Music app and add the speaker to your account
    If the light bar does not blink green after the four button presses, restart the process and continue alternate taps of the Action and Microphone Off buttons for 30 seconds
    If the speaker has not previously connected to your Wi-Fi network, follow the steps above, then try connecting to Wi-Fi using the alternate method. For more info, see Connecting to a Wi-Fi network

      Glad I found this tutorial. The English manual is 46 pages long; page 35 describes this white light pattern as “updating”. I also noticed a microUSB service port hidden near the power outlet.
      Hope that this recovery mode works as I did not (yet) find it in the manual. I followed it exactly and the white scrolling light has returned.
      Waited 5 minutes… aaaaand it’s FIXED!

    Mine took 3 hrs to stop showing that green line going aroung from left to right, I was about to fallow the steps below but all of a suden it worked haha lucky me, but thank you! for this video any way im glad it worked couse i hate bose technical support agents.

    My 500 sound bar is doing the same....in the past it used to connect with wi fi and update used to happen in a day....it's been more than 12 hrs now...

    The same problem happened with me. I am just flabbergasted by the kind of service BOSE provides. Highly disappointed and would never suggest to buy it.

      @@KanwarAnand They didnot repair mine saying that we have to change wifi circuit which costs around 7980/- . I brought it back. Now no clue what to do with the speaker.

      @@rajbrahmbhatt3650 you should take it back to them. Request they do it free of charge. If they don't agree try to do some drama .. worst case just pay it. Then once you've paid you can sell the same for like 20-25k.

    .In my case, only the line appeared from left to right, I tried to load the software, and nothing happened. I called BOSE and they asked me to send it to the specialized center for 300 MX Pesos (15 dlls). Days later they sent me the quote for 4000 MX pesos (200 dlls). since the main card had been damaged and it no longer had a guarantee. Obviously, I called BOSE and I told them that I did not agree, I told them that the failure was due to an update that they send every day. They gave me a courtesy ticket for a new speaker. The center of attention returned my old speaker to me and now I'm working on it to get the speakers working. The important thing is that if you have this problem, tell BOSE, since the failures due to updates, they absorb them. Well, I'm going to wait for the new speaker to be shipped to me and try to get the old one to work with an amplifier. I am thinking of selling the one they send me, since I did not like that they failed. I hope my comment will serve you. Kind regards

      hi swapnil...there is a way to manually update it/ reset it. Please google for that. Else take it to the bose store in your city or nearest to it. They will fix it.

    Same problem - really not happy having to take it to a store etc etc after spending more money to get a quality speaker - that now does not work!

      I agree. Bose has become a little dicey in the last 2 years. I had an issue with my portable home speaker also

      Take it to the Bose Store. Its a software issue, they ought to fix it or give you a new one.

    Try a manual update -
    To manual initiate a software update:
    On the top of your product, simultaneously press and hold the Bluetooth® and Volume - buttons for 10 seconds:
    If an update is available, a white light scrolls across the light bar on the front of your product while it is updating. Once complete, your product reboots
    If no update is available, your product reboots
    While rebooting, the light bar with pulse; once rebooted, it will turn off

      agree with all...but imagine being stuck in this scenario and not knowing what do - at least with my video (3-4 min) you know that its not gonna work and you take it to BOSE who will fix it or replace it. So its not a completely pointless video. What will you do with yours for example? do reply.

      if you can - take it to the bose service center - they have necessary equipment to do it and it is not an out of warranty repair. They may try to charge you but suggest you reason with them - show them invoice and request to waive any fee.

      I have the same problem, I see that the speaker LED moves about 10 times and then restarts, it does not allow to load the firmware manually

      Sorry you feel this way Felipe. I basically told everyone to take it to the service Center instead of racking their brain. Secondly I told them to try a few troubleshooting steps which may work. Also if you noticed I have pinned whatever valuable information I can in the comment section. So I’m trying to be useful. The video is hardly long.

    I did the following, then the left to right blinking stopped. No light anymore. I just added it to airplay & it worked like before (Firmware version 13.1.5-16+13294a8) :
    1. Tap the *Action* button once; after a second or half second, tap the *AUX* button once.
    2. Tap the *Action* button once; after a second or half second, tap the *AUX* button once.
    3. Tap the *Action* button once; after a second or half second, tap the *AUX* button once.
    @fanoulapha1 Actually I tried to do what Jacques Lefebvre mentioned here, but by mistake did this. But this worked for me!
    Have to admit that the software design is quite difficult to work with!
