I just received my Harvest Right freeze dryer and am in the process of getting it set up. I really appreciate your detailed explanations and demonstrations of the process of planning and setting up your freeze dryer, as well as freeze drying the bread, soup and cottage cheese and packaging the final product. Yay! Watching your family help prepare food was enjoyable too! I’m excited to get started and feel your videos really helped demystify how to get started successfully. It will be great to see what other foods you freeze dry, and how they turn out. Thank you!
Thank you so much for your comment! I'm really glad the videos have been helpful and enjoyable for you. We wish you the best of luck with your freeze drying!
If you want replace the exact amount of water you can weigh it before freeze drying and then after. Subtract and there is your measurement. Also if you seal the larger bags at top you can reuse the bags for smaller amounts. 🥰
I make this soup, but I also add some nutmeg and a few apples, it really helps the savory/sweet balance, if you like this soup with a just a tad bit of sweetness (1 small apple per butternut squash) I added cinnamon one time by mistake, and it was still great! lol thanks for the video..I'm considering purchasing a harvest right and embarking on this journey.
Great information about the weight of food recommended per tray excellent to know he;ps you plan better and smarter…we just got one today and running through the bread cycle…excited…thank you for sharing…curious if you have used frozen trays of food and been told it saves much time…
Yes, I do pre-freeze my trays sometimes and prefer it most of the time. It does knock off a few hours of the overall freeze drying process if they are pre-frozen. Good luck with your new machine!

Hey not to change the subject but I love your kitchen cabinets. I’m renovating and wondering what kind of cabinets they are and where did you purchase them? Sorry to bother you with this. :) Your recipe looks yummy.
Doesn't Harvest Right suggest to use silicone mats in the trays and to always freeze your food before putting in the freeze dryer? I'm just curious as to why you don't do these things. Don't we NOT need to use mats or parchment paper and can we just NOT freeze before putting in the freeze dryer? Lots of conflicting information on the internet. Some say not to use the trays to pre-freeze and to use something else and then put in the freeze dryer trays and others say to always use the silicone mats or parchment paper so as to not ruin the trays. I'm confused!
Freezing first knocks a few hours off the whole process. I just got mine and my freezer is full so I’ll have to use the machine at first to do the freezing. Also freezing first can help you to portion out your batch. Good luck and happy Freeze-drying 😎
I need to comment. I just put butternut squash into my oven to roast. I didn't search for butternut anything. I come to my laptop and see your video in the recommendations on YT. Just a little unnerving. I'm not even subscribed to your channel! Thanks for the video though. You have a lovely family and kitchen.
Is the machine still working, I mean flawlessly working? I was just about to get one but so many people have problems with those and there is apparently no service network not even in US, so that now, I’m just about to cancel the reservation. I’m from Slovenia Europe so I can not afford to ship it back to US for warranty repairs if something went wrong and there is definitely no service in my country for this machine. Did you had any kind of problems with the freeze?
I am going to love freeze drying this soup. Thank you for taking us through each step. Have a blessed day.
Okay, the freeze dryer is pretty cool, but the entire family jumping in and helping make the soup was amazing. ;-) Many hands make for light work.
Love how everyone is involved
Yes! My grandson is anxious to help me experiment which makes me so happy!
Looks amazing!
Well done with teaching your kids basic kitchen skills! ❤️
Thank you for sharing the weight guide. I am going to try your Butternut Squash Soup Recipe.
Awesome job yall good to see the group working together
I enjoyed your freeze drying video; I hope you do them more frequently.

Thanks for the tip! We will have to try that next time.
Would you please share this recipe, I would love to FD it. Thank you
Nutmeg is the secret ingredient in most dishes. Learned that from Rachel Rea 🥰
Cool!

Thank you! They are "select walnut" meaning boards with small to no Knott's. We got them from a custom cabinet shop I used to work for.

Can you just freeze the soup I just made a batch never made it before?
Yes, it should freeze great! When you thaw it, if it looks a little grainy just give it a whiz in the blender to bring it back together. :)
I may be blind (probably) but is the recipe somewhere in comments?
The recipe is in the video description. Thanks for watching!

Ours has been doing great. We have not had any need for service yet.
