Because what I've seen is that people of that ethnic background aren't economically the strongest, rather on par with the Canadian average , outside the few population centres they don't have any significant political power either. So what am I missing on part of the unjust preferences that east Indians enjoy?

Regardless of whether that individual made the comment, Singh is a public servant operating in an official capacity. Those words do not constitute threats. Singh should have walked away. We have the right to free speech and to petition and challenge our government. Singh approached him in an aggressive manner, close enough to be seen as threatening, and the man had every right to defend himself. That said, he was a coward for not owning up to it. If it were me, I would have admitted it and said, "Yeah, I said it. What are you going to do about it?"
