      It is a beautiful place to be. For many people they couldn't fish if it weren't for places like Bennett Spring. We are truly blessed with thousands miles of rivers and stream and numerous major lakes and reservoirs. Then there special places like large springs and thousands of small lakes and ponds. Thanks for watching Floyd.

    Very nice video of that beautiful park. I’ve done a lot of fishing there over the years. My favorite area to fish is zone 2 that you showed right after the eagle. My favorite place to fall in and go under water is up toward the spring in zone 1, LOL. Hope you and your wife catch a bunch opening day.

      LOL, I have had a few of those unexpected baths myself 😍😍😍. I also like zone 2. I like to use tiny crank baits when the park is high. I always enjoy your comments.

      Thanks SK. I am not sure I will get to fish because I want to give priority to the video. If I fish it will be later in the day for sure. Sharon will be fishing if the weather is favorable. You're not going to believe what you see from the opening day video. Looking forward to those weekly SK videos. Thanks again buddy.

      It is a great place to trout fish if you don't mind a lot of people. I have fished there for years and it is a great place to fish when conditions elsewhere are bad. You won't believe the big opening day affair they have. Better watch my next video!!!!! Thanks again buddy.

      My philosophy about videos is that they should be more than just holding up a fish or winding one in. I want viewers to feel like they are there with me. I try to show the whole trip rather than just video clips of the event. That's what I like to watch so that's what I try to do. Not everyone likes them but I try to produce what I like to watch.

      I think a lot of out-of-state people are going to be really surprised when they see the Opening Day video. Don, are you the one producing your videos or are others involved? I remember you guys used to work together like a team.

    • @Winkiedoodles
      @Winkiedoodles 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerry, my fishing buddy (Barry) was obviously in the "Don and Barry" show(s) on Table Rock, Pomme, Stockton and LOZ. Yours truly is a one-man videographer. Typically I was the main camera man and did all the editing and post production work. Barry was the boat owner/captain and the strategist. He learned locations and techniques from other anglers (like the Ft Leavenworth bass club guys) or pro guides. As strange as it sounds, having lived in Springfield for 16 years and now in Jefferson City for three, I've not fished Bennett Springs. I've been there, of course, but sold or gave away all my fly fishing stuff a long time ago because the "trout bug" never bit me and I lost interest. I even tried Taneycomo a time or two in my Tracker boat, caught a real nice Brown (probably by accident), but again lost interest because the time and expenses balance sheet didn't balance with the results. I enjoy the excitement of catching bass, but really like crappie and bluegill fishing. Nostalgia setting in....!!! 😊😊😊 Best wishes and hope we all survive these wicked winds; it's a doozy. Don

    That's a lot of gallons of water. Wow! Sheeshh, those fish are in there pretty thick. Awesome Eagle sighting! Alrighty then. See you for March Madness!

    • @jerryrouth6115
      @jerryrouth6115  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you stand there and look at the spring, you think, where could this much water come from. The fish are pretty thick but there will be over 1000 anglers there on the 1st of March. And, the trout see so many lures they get smart. It is a lot harder for me to catch trout once the season gets started, than it is to catch them in the wild. So many people I have fished with have been amazed how difficult they are to catch. Last winter I went there and fished hard for about 5 hours and caught two trout!!!!! I made a video of that if you want to see it.

      Mike, if all fishing was like opening day, nobody would fish. Everyone would quit LOL. But opening day is a celebration, a party, an event. It kicks off the season. It brings together old friends it's kinda the Mardi Gras of trout fishing,
      It's a special event and know one knows why and for those in attendance on one cares LOL. Thanks again buddy, I know you have a new video out, I'll get to it tomarrow.

      You may want to wait a few days, there is a lot of water in the Niangua. They usually stock the river pretty heavy the two weeks before the park opens, but if we get a lot of water, many of them wash further down the river. I usually fish down stream from the 64 bridge. Thanks again guys.

      Dewayne, trout fishing the state parks is not for everyone. Those who like hardly go any other kind of fishing. For 40 years I never missed an opening day. I haven't been to opening day now for about 8 years. I is a celebration rather than a fishing event!!!!! But, I'm going this year just to film the event. Thanks as always buddy.

    A fantastic video Jerry, very informative and it sure looks like you got your exercise in shooting this one. I haven't been there yet but it's one of the top spots we plan on going to later this spring, seems like a nice coincidence that you did this video and I'm really looking forward to your opening day one. Nice to see that the trout there are doing so well, you showed quite a few of them. Thanks again and take care.

    Thanks Jerry it has been years since I’ve been to Bennett Springs only lived 18 miles away when I was growing up. We used to go there to see the spring and hatcheries. Looks like there have been some nice additions since the 50’s.
    P.S. I never fished there.

      I grew up in Mark Twain National Forest down by Nebo an attended Plato High School so we grew up pretty close together. I fished there several times a year for 50 years or so. I like to fish there because you can always catch fish there no matter what the weather is like because the water temperature is always 57 degrees!!!!! Thanks for coming along.

    Does the water run all the time

    • @jerryrouth6115
      @jerryrouth6115  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has been running 24 hour per day for over 100 years that I know of!!!!! People come from all over the United States and several foreign countries every year. They have a large area for various type of camping and lots of people will spend their whole vacation there every year. I talked to some people who had spent their vacation there for over 50 years!!!! Quite a place. You won't believe the opening day video. Thanks so much for your loyal support.

    Surprising how much water is underground. There sure are a lot of trout. Are they stocked?
    That Didymosphenia geminata is some nasty stuff. Nice Eagle footage.

    • @jerryrouth6115
      @jerryrouth6115  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is amazing where all that water comes from. In Missouri there are 4 state parks similar to Bennett. They are stocked daily according to the number of tags sold the day before. I'm sure that is a generality because there are other factors to consider, like floods, etc. The rest of the trout fishing in Missouri is done by periodic stocking on an annual basis. You pay an annual fee for that. At the state parks you pay a daily fee. That "Diddymo" is for real. You are not allowed to use waders with felt soles in the state parks. What a surprise, the Eagle, I looked up and there he was. He just set there and let me film until I started walking again, then he flew. Thanks again my friend.

      Tim, I probably won't fish. If I do it will be later in the day after I finish the video. If the weather is acceptable Sharon will probably fish. I hope so. There are usually 1500 or more fishermen there on opening!!!!! I will start filming around 5 AM. I see you have a new video. I hope to watch it later in the day after I get my wife's car unstuck in the show!!!! Thanks like always, Jerry
