My two year old started banging drums and "singing" this morning. Upon listening, i realized he's been singing this song in his baby language due to the tune. We aren't bad parents if one of the first songs he sings is a pirate medley, are we? (We Will Feast in the House of Zion was his first followed quickly by the Paw Patrol theme song for reference.) Haha. This song is still a family favorite, years later.
My husband was Navy can't wait to share this with him. The Tshirt that Chance is wearing and that ever plaid blouse that Rob has on, wow, just just wow! Hubby loved it. Sang along with What Do You Do with A Drunken Sailor. Thank you!
Adam's beatboxing was completely insane. He took it to a whole another level. I did not even recognize Austin's voice in this. He went into full stage musical acting mode. Tim was hilarious dressed up as Capt. Jack Sparrow. I wonder what the neighbors thought seeing a pirate outside and it isn't even Halloween? And Rob, he really did a nice twist to his mustache. Overall, it was completely entertaining and the harmonies on point as only HF can do them.
Lol...!! With all their quarantine videos, I’m sure the neighbors for each of the guys are completely used to them speaking, singing, dancing, motioning, acting to another person holding a camera or cellphone! 😂
I’m 65 yrs old now. I was brought up with the 50’ 60’70’80’ music mainly. But in my younger years I played the violin which I wish I kept up now regret it. My hands, wrist and elbow on my left side has problems to much to play a violin nowadays. So, I grew to like string music too. Then my father and an uncle introduced Big Band music. Then to my delight my son learned to play the trumpet. He was very good even won The John Phillip Sousa Award (not sure of spelling). So I grew to love jazz too. Then one day about 9 months ago I came across Geoff Castellucci’s music. I liked his voice very much so I set it as station in Pandora. Well on that station they had The Wellerman’s music. Now I love to listen to this station while I read. It’s very entertaining and enlightening. These shanty songs really give you a lift on bad days. Thank you Gentlemen for your music.
I need to have a full version of EVERY single one of these songs. You guys unique take on these songs is so astonishing. I find myself coming back to listen to these short versions instead of the pre-existing full versions by other creators. Please give the people what they want. From taking a small glance at the comments, it's great to see that I'm not the only one who shares this enthusiasm. Edit: Clicking 6 on the keyboard perfectly replays Santiana for its enthusiasts, myself included.
@@DaveyWilliamsPantzNotRequired you can hear the difference between Chance and Tim's bass, and you can also see that Tim is bassing here. Look at his lips and expression. Usually they switch between songs, not mid-song.
I love how they're each dressed at totally different levels of costume, from "Like my ocean-themed T-Shirt?" to "I AM A SERIOUS PIRATE WITH A SWORD, YAR!"
@@number-1-Saxman I shall clarify: This was the first time I had ever heard this song, so I did a search to find a full version and listened to every version I found, and it turns out I like this one the best.
@@TonyWildRiver Same, I love Home Free's Santiana version WAY more than the original one by The Longest Johns. I would blast a full Home Free Santiana on repeat!
I was very familiar with the song, but agree that they need to do a full length version, I've sung it for years as a pirate throughout games and as a road trip song but their version is still my fav
I'm not surprised that they pulled off a sea shanty medley: There isn't a style they can't do! Guys you rock so hard! Every one of you is an awesome talent! Rock on, boys!
Th differences in costumes cracks me up. Tim and Austin COMMITTED. Adam ran with the theme, and Rob and Chance looked in their closets and said "that works"
i love how in one of the reaction videos I saw, some commented that Adam is like Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid or Zorro, While Rob is a Lumberjack pirate, and Chance is the tourist lol. But when I first saw Chance's pirate get-up, I immediately thought of that guy from one of Capt. Hook's crew in Peter Pan
Chance is dressed in tee shirt and beanie, and thumping the back of his guitar in tribute and in keeping with Nathan Evans' Tik Tok video which started this whole craze a year ago. His choice of clothing was no accident. Check for "The Wellerman Sea Shanty Tik Tok" and you will hear Nathan's original song and the resulting mashup of people from around the world collaborating in harmony. It's fantastic!
@@ckp6244 "His choice of clothing was no accident" **Ding Ding Ding Winner** 100% agree. It's brilliant - it's not a lack of effort - it's an excellent creative nod to the entire... "movement".
Superb. Best I’ve heard. Brings back many memories. My great-grandfather was a sea captain whose shop was lost at sea, sailing out of New Brunswick, Canada. My mom loved the sea.
Okay, so you guys can just go ahead and record the full-length version of Santiana now, alright? Holy cow, those castanets! Incredibly realistic. I’m so impressed, and a tip of the hat for Adam for managing that.
Oh my god. That was so good! Austin, Tim, and Adam is surely enjoying their pirate outfit. And good Lord, the harmonies are pure cotton candy to mt ears! Chance's voice is so smooth, Tim's bass is pure gold, and Adam's beatboxing really took the Sea shanty onto the next level! I love this!
Anyone else wanna hear Adam do a long vocal solo? We get hints, and teases, but I want a shakeup day where everybody else tries to beatbox like Adam, hit the lows like Tim, the sweet highs of Austin, the ringing clarity....awe hell guys, just try it. Would be hilarious!
YES, an album of Sea Shanties, PLEASE! As former Naval Academy Midshipman (circa 1970s) and passionate sailor for many years, I would SO purchase an album of their sea shanties! You bring back many GREAT memories, guys!
This absolutely is the most diverse entertaining group i have ever encountered. Not sure what genre of music they can't touch and deliver well. Never a dull moment with this crew!!! :-)
@@coolcat8b They used to do Bring Him Home from Les Miserables once in a while. Should be around somewhere. and yes they slayed. This musical fan is very happy with them :)
Shortly after discovering that sea shanties calmed my newborn (we're pretty sure he was a sailor in a previous life lol), we asked Alexa to play sea shanties and she played this song. Since then, this has been our default lullaby for our baby, which works like a charm 9 times out of 10. Thankfully we love this medley too, but the peaceful baby is a nice perk. Thanks for the help, Home Free! Update: our now 2 year old has started singing Wellerman on his own. At least as well as a 2 year old can 😅
Do you have any sailors in the family? Some cultures believe, that souls can only move between bodies, that are blood-related, meaning that you can only be reborn within your own family. Therefore most people couldn't have been Cleopatra in a former life 😉 It's also the reason why children aren't punished in some cases, because people assume, that these are reborn ancestors, and you simply don't slap your granny for misbehaving. If there's a sailor among the baby's (dead) ancestors, you may even find out the name of the shanty fan and could compare some behavioural traits when the baby grows up. Oh, and some people think, that children remember details of their former lives until they turn 4 or 5 years old. At that point the new personality takes over and erases the soul's memories, that are not connected to the new body. But children between 1-4 years might say spooky things, because they still have access to the immortal (soul) part of the memory. Like that little girl, who told her mother, "Before I was born, we were together, but I was your mother back then."
I feel like Adam isn't getting enough love on this one. Holy crap dude, this was fantastic. Tim is killing the bass as usual and everyone is wonderful, but this is a LOT on Adam to pull all of it together into something cohesive, IMO. Phenomenal job, especially with the castanets at the end. Absolutely unreal!!
Goodness gracious...these guys could do ANYTHING and make it sound amazing! Such fun! Tim just pounding the bass throughout, Adam going nuts beatboxing, and Chance, Austin, and Rob just killing the solos and harmonies. God, I love this group! 🙏🏻👍🏻👏🏻
Clearly, this music makes me want to jump, sing and dance! A rhythm not to stop, by heart in the car I go in rehearsal so much it gives me a good mood. I already listened to it by chance on TH-cam 2 years ago and it had given me the same joy. Excellent Job
WARNING: This song is highly addictive. Home Free's amazing harmonies doesn't help. And I don't let a little thing like not knowing most of the words stop me from singing 🤪
Heard this trending on Instagram, and those first 15 seconds caught me right away 😅 I’m amazed by the talent, guys! I had the chills and the goosebumps!
What I really liked was that they all sang low in their registers.None of the high falsetto from Austin or soaring runs from Rob. Just rock solid low harmonies with Adam's driving beat setting the tempo and then the amazing "castenets" in the Santiana section.
Y'all will probably not see this, given the number of comments already posted, including my own. But my African grey parrot has taken to 'snapping' to the beat through the entire medley. She not only keeps time, she keeps up with the increasing mayhem as the tempo ramps up. She loves Afro-Cuban, Big Band, and the Danish National Symphony playing The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. She is working on whistling that iconic intro. However, she PREFERS Home Free singing this medley. Exceptional taste, this parrot.
We not only see this comment but love it. Brings back fond memories of my greater sulfur crested cockatoo and his ability to flawlessly imitate peons in Warcraft 2.
I'll leave my comment here so someone likes the notification and reminds me to listen to this song Home Free again. I love this song. I can't stop listening to it. I could listen to it all day .....from Fort Worth, Texas
Btw, does anyone recognize the Australia song they start singing at 1:47? Cause I can’t find it when looking for it; all I’m getting is “South Australia” which is a completely different song.
@@spartan1891 It seems to be a variant of the Cape Cod Shanty (aka Cape Cod Girls). Some of you make better pirates than others, BUT Adam completely rocked this one. He was so into this one that you couldn't even keep him in the video frame. Just a PURE joy to hear this compilation. I perform at the Ren Faires and this song rocks anything I've heard there!!! Nice costumes everyone!
Ok, I’m French and I grew up singing a song called "Santiano", which is basically summarizing my whole childhood in Brittany. I just jumped when hearing these guys sing "Santiana" as I had no idea that this french song was actually a cover from a sea shanty. And hearing the sound of my childhood sung by Home Free, it’s priceless!
Awesome rendition of these traditional sailing songs (not just pirates!) - they were the best possible rendition of what these songs truly are - songs designed to get everyone working in synchronization, and providing energy and a sense of community when the work was hard. HF's commitment to the low masculine range (TIM just hanging in the basement where virtually no one else can actually sing) and driving beat (ADAM - the castanets and the sound of the wind is incredibly authentic - wow). My father is a Coastguardsman, and sailed on the clipper ship the Eagle. I grew up with these songs, but have never heard them better. This medley is crazy good - everything it should be, musically perfect, and totally fun. THANK YOU (oh and yes, I would love to get an album of traditional men's work songs - from Home Free - there are so many - soldiers, sailors, miners... It would be just amazing.)
Alright. for the past few months I can't seem to get away from this song! Every tik tok and short has the music in it. Now I know who's voices they belong too!! Great Job!
Man, as much as I love Tim (and he killed this), Adam is just blowing my damn mind with the percussion. Castanets? Really? I wouldn’t believe you for a moment that this man wasn’t playing a drum set if I didn’t already know.
Does anyone else think it's hilarious that each member is willing to commit to a different level of pirate? Like Tim Adam and Austin are full on pirate and Rob is like "oh I'll wear I do rag and curl my mustache," and Adam is like "I'll just wear a t-shirt. But it's okay cuz it'll have a whale on it."
It's the opitome of every group project lol. The two that try really hard, the one who tries fairly hard but also has money to buy cool stuff to contribute/ make it look better, the one who only tried a little, or didn't have much time/money to contribute and the one who is just there for the easy credit and scraped his part together literally 10 minutes before class with random junk from his locker or borrowed from friends lol 😂
Wow! Tim has such a deep, rich, velvety voice! At first I thought he was one of the tenors, but it turns out he’s actually the bass! I guess he didn’t mind hangin’ about in the bowel of Davy Jones’ locker for the entire song… 🧐 Such a great medley and a great voice! Well done!
Maybe it's stereotyping, but at first I thought it was the big bearded guy who had the bass voice, to find out the Jack Sparrow cosplayer was a bit of a shock to me. They don't look like they've got the voices they do.
So... here I am,weeks after first finding this. Comes 0200, and I cannot sleep. Okaaaay, wakey brain, I'll fix you..... Pull up this piece, one foot keeping time, and my hyperactive wakey brain decides a nap is a good idea. Something about the harmonies and tempos puts me in a happy place. Someone upthread mentioned how awesome it would be if Home Free would do a medly if Irish tunes. Ohgoshyes!

I needed to remind myself that NO there's no percussion, just one very talented guy :)
OMG The more I hear from Home Free, the more I appreciate Adam's talent as A Beatboxer. NO ONE CAN COMPARE!!!!😍🥰

The bass voice is just incredible. In the first song especially. The "take that whale in tow" sends a shiver down my back.
Hands down agree!!!

He is one of the very few professional low bass voices around the world.

@@BBoy4040 Tim. The guy dressed like Jack Sparrow.

Th differences in costumes cracks me up. Tim and Austin COMMITTED. Adam ran with the theme, and Rob and Chance looked in their closets and said "that works"
i love how in one of the reaction videos I saw, some commented that Adam is like Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid or Zorro,
While Rob is a Lumberjack pirate, and Chance is the tourist lol.

Just by one from Fisherman's Friends
Shortly after discovering that sea shanties calmed my newborn (we're pretty sure he was a sailor in a previous life lol), we asked Alexa to play sea shanties and she played this song. Since then, this has been our default lullaby for our baby, which works like a charm 9 times out of 10. Thankfully we love this medley too, but the peaceful baby is a nice perk. Thanks for the help, Home Free!
Update: our now 2 year old has started singing Wellerman on his own. At least as well as a 2 year old can 😅
Our baby too!! She's now 2.5 years lol
💀💀💀💀💀💀
This is your babies theme song now!
😀😀👍
I love how Tim and Austin went full pirate.
looks like they both had eye liner on, too !!.....great idea !!

This is my favorite Home Free song. The imagination runs wild thinking of a pirate’s life.
What I really liked was that they all sang low in their registers.None of the high falsetto from Austin or soaring runs from Rob. Just rock solid low harmonies with Adam's driving beat setting the tempo and then the amazing "castenets" in the Santiana section.
i mean, chance was singing like, upper middle of his register, but i get what ur saying
Thanks for your love and support towards me
Y'all will probably not see this, given the number of comments already posted, including my own.
I grew up with an African yellow head parrot. She was very musical and would follow to the beat of music on the radio.

Ohgoshyes!
That bass he does is extremely impressive, captures the spirit of the songs so well. I also wouldn’t have guessed it was him!
