    as a fan of the channel since 2018, i've missed many of agadmator's excellent pause the video moments and often ended up enjoying the show. But this one, this one I can proudly say, in the comfort of my own home with a healthy amount of minutes to soak up the position, that I was able to find the correct intercepting move at 12:37! all of white's pieces are pointed at the black king, but in other variations i could not involve that rook on the 6th rank. combined with the undefended d8 rook being the only guard against a back-rank mate, i thought it would be good to try to distract / overload it having to also defend the d4 bishop 😋

    I actually found rook C6 but it was too troublesome to calculate all possible answers to it. Then I abandoned the RC6 idea in favour of just moving the queen to E8. I had the odd feeling that a mate-in-2 could not be the solution because it would be too obvious but I started the video anyway because the alternative would have been going back calculating the C6 move ... so, yeah. I found it but didn't go for it. ( and in case you are wondering: the defence for QE8 is roook F8)

    First pause the video moment, I saw the idea of Qxb4 after Nxf7 Rxf7 but didn't realize Ng5 had to be played first before Qxb4. That's a difficult detail to recognize, and I had to go look at it with an engine to understand why. It's not just to add another attacker to the rook on f7. It's to stop Be6. If Nxf7 Rxf7 Qxb4 immediately, black can play Be6 (accepting the queen with axb4 is losing for black regardless) and all white has only a small edge. Crazy.

  • @BuggatiWeryon
    @BuggatiWeryon 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    An interesting detail but in case someone is wondering: At 5:26 Qd7 attacks both bishops and you will win one of them back since if Re7, Qc5 attacks the rook and threatens Qc1 Re1, Qxe1#
    So if the rook goes back to protect back rank, you take the dark square bish on c7. However, Qd7 would be a mistake, since intermezzo Bg6 cuts off the king and prepares Re8#, the queen is now protecting the e8 square but if it captures dark square bish on c7, Re8 will be mate. so queen goes back to prevent Re8, but then the dark square bishop can be saved

    Woohoo! I found Rd6 🙂. I saw black's back-rank issues and realised the rook on d8 needed to be distracted.

    i've found Rd6 in a couple minutes. i saw that the rook battery has a backrank motif and that Qd8+ was definitely a free move, since Rf7 has to be played to defend checkmate. And Rd6 looked not only fish-like, it looked like a whale a moment later (since it attacks the backrank and the undefended bishop). How would black even defend? Rdf8? Well that's at least down the exchange after the trades.

    Yeah that last rook move defines positional chess lol. I'm use to seeing those kinds of moves in four player chess. Those kinds of moves are not discussed enough. But I didn't find it, only the follow up queen sac, but I noticed that the other rook would fall back, black would decline the queen sac in that way. Interesting stuff, is he from Norway? The way people from Norway play chess is incredible. Very impressive ideas they normally use. This is why Magnus feels strength in the end game. His small positional ideas, and tactics he feels is stronger, and holds less theory.

    i found that move !!!.....I considered others, but realized the back rank doubled queen/rook was the method for eventual checkmate (with knight guarding h7)

    Found it! I was calculating the obvious Qe8 but after Rf8 just could not find anything. I looked at Qh5 but the rook on f7 can just move and so on. That made me consider deflecting moves. Rb6, Rf6, Rc7 then Rd6 just hit me. Calculations for that move are easy, but finding the canditate moves is hard. Even way harder while playing.

    After thinking for 51 minutes I found the move and the winning combination.
    It was super hard to find and I had a hard struggle to find it.

    Remember that last rook tactic. When you have one piece hanging, the first instinct is to unhang it. However, you can hang another piece which actually creates TWO threats for the opponent, and they only have ONE move to deal with it. Its the principle of two weaknesses. Whichever piece they capture you then continue on with the other piece and create further mayhem.

    5:24 Qd7 is actually a bit tricky for White to defend the bishops. I think it's 1. Re8# Kh7 2. Bg8# Kg6 3. Re6# Kf6 4. Bc5.

    At the last pause the video moment, I didn't find the move that no-one will find. I would have gone Qe2-e8 thinking of a back rank mate and been met with ...Rf7-f8 following which I would have resigned and left the board as quickly as I could.

    I found it in less than a minute. It is easy when you realise that queen to e8 would be checkmate if black didnt have rook back to f8.

    The ones who would have found the Knight sac for sure are Tal & Nezhmidenov !! Of course had they used Stockfish to train then it would be a Knightmare for any human to face them 😂😂
