Awesome channel!! I came across your channel from a link in a comment on Reddit, and promptly watched all your videos. Have you considered doing a video about the modifications the NASA C-130 and P-3 have to facilitate the installation of the scientific instruments? For example, do the have more powerful generators to power the science? Did they cut holes in the floor? Do the have built in computer networks? Or how about external instrument mounting points? What I'm asking is, ignoring the scientific instruments that are changed regularly, how were the air-frames themselves modified? What i can tell about the P-3 is the obvious removal of weapons systems and the removal of the MAD boom [which somewhat surprised me, I would have thought that the MAD boom might be a good mounting spot for some instruments].
Hey Cameron, first off, thank you SO MUCH for the compliment and the poignant comment & questions. That’s a great idea, and while I knew in the back of my mind that there was a way to highlight how these aircraft are different & special, I hadn’t quite gotten my finger on it yet, & your suggestion is exactly the right answer. Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll start scripting out how to tell the story today. Interesting observation about the removal of the MAD boom. Most of the scientists data are collected physically through various probes, or by measuring particles that pass through LASER beams that are wing mounted however, so the extra weight of a full boom isn’t necessary. I’ll see if I can get some detailed shots of how those probes work. Again, a sincere thanks for taking time out of your day to watch my videos. If you know anyone else who might like them, please share it with them. I’ve gained nearly 200 subs just from that ONE Reddit post you saw, so it illustrates the power of social media.
@@UnusualAttitudes I'm glad to have helped, your channel is one of the few sources that doesn't just skip over the interesting technical stuff, even the official NASA videos usually just say "A modified " and don't mention how it was modified unless it is visually obvious.
Exactly. they're always playing to the lowest common denominator. I don't. MY LCD is at the very least an aviation enthusiast, and most likely an aviation professional. Thanks again, dude.
I was the proud owner of N1638H from 1984 to 1987 and used it to commute from Princeton NJ to Republic Airport on Long Island. You have done a beautiful job with the aircraft and I am happy to see it is still flying!!
I flew a Warrior back in the day I preferred it over the 172 just because it gave me smoother landings and won me over to the low wing Great affordable air craft
That's a nice plane there. I hope he was sitting down when he got the bill for all the upgrades. If he puts it on the market I'd probably try to find the dollars though.
I agree- it’s a super nice Warrior! (It seems like he knew what he was getting into when he did it though.) But, as he said, he’s a ‘while I’m in there...’ kinda guy. (As am I. 🤦🏻♂️) Thanks for watching!
I have my 1st 2 hrs flight time logged in same type of 28-161 warrior II and looking forward to it also a 1977 160 hp 2700 max rpm maneuver speed 111knts as poh I could download pdf saying I find out how accurate the poh may be
First video of yours I've seen. Was waiting for you to say "my name is is ASAC Shrader!" You kinda look like him lol. Is your bro in law a chemistry teacher?
Avionics, full strip & paint + 0-timing the engine (+new cam shaft) Jim said he put ~$70K in it. Airplane stuff is expensive. 😞. Thanks for the comment & for watching!

Yeah, it really is. SUPER nice to fly.
NCBUCKSLAYER impressive fit for a GA aeroplane. Useful when the weather gets marginal.

Lovely airplane. I learn to fly in that plane. Took my check ride. Just one point but I would like to politely make. It’s an engine. It’s not a motor.
I am sure he knows it's an engine. Sometimes people refer to an engine as a motor. I am sure he knows how the engine works.
